i went to a 600 for my second grow and i love it...will never go above a 600 i dont think. im having alot of fun and pulling down large personal stashes with four plants. couldnt be happier...heat issues force me to run the 400 in the summer but im okay with that...winter is when the real gardening goes down!

Yep 600 watters have the best efficacy. Usually even better than the 1000 watters. In terms of lumens/watt.

plants dont recognize lumens. Lumens are a measurement of how much light energy a light source emits, irrelevant when it comes to grow lights.

Plants recognize PAR (Photo-Synthetically Active Radiation)

I did pretty good in a 3 x3 space with 400 watts , my best was a smidge over 12 ozs . now that i have the 4 x4 i can't wait to upgrade to 600 watts .

annnnnnnnnd already busted 200g and still have 1 plant left.

400's are GREAT. :dance013:
Yeah i agree recently pulled 10.5 oz of White Rhino 10days early from a 400w. The best I done was nearly 11.5 oz but I've only grown 5 crops so know I can squeeze more out of it. Can't grow MJ atm so I'm giving some chillis a go. :gday:

That's why people use 400s for vegging and 600 or 1000 for flowering...just go ahead and get the 1000 and then sell the broke one on Ebay and the other. If it is a magnetic ballast, there are only a couple of things to replace if the coil is good. The capacitor , switches or cords...

not knocking 600's and 1000's...nothing beets a 1000 watt for bud density and yield but i like the 400 scale because it's small enough to not really show up much on my electric bill, and big enough to grow me more pot than i could ever smoke, the heats not too bad too deal with, price was good, and the bud is even better. there is nothing inherently flawed with 400w lights as a whole, just some of the growers that use them.

perfectly possible to pull 1g/watt from under any hps with almost any strain and the right techniques. if you're not pulling that then dont blame the light!

I cut my teeth on a 400 watter. Read alot, listen to good peeps, tried this and that and improved every harvest. I up graded to 1000 watts and OMG it just isnt the same as 400 watts. Buds and yield went threw the roof, Upgraded again to a 2k stadium and started the learning curve all over again but still improved over a 2k flat garden. I would go back to a 400 watter if I ever go back to just myself. Too many patience depending on me at the moment. Wattage depends on personal preference, space, time and knowledge. Not everyone needs 5lbs per harvest! Bsafe

I consistently get over 1.1gpw, and 1.25~1.3 max with 600w.
I run 600W per 1.2m2, with double parabollic reflectors. Usually 4-6 plants under that light, and with heavy LST training applied.

I respectfully disagree.

8oz minimum. Only day 38.

Guess we will see, eh.

I can see it chunking up for sure. :tiphat: I would direct the threadstarter to the top link in my sig as well for another example of (an attempt at) putting a 400w to work. I'm looking for a minimum of 4oz/plant...we'll see...

Damb u guy's are killling it with a 400 watter...

Thats what i started off with in a 3x3 closet. It worked great but it was just way too hot in that closet because i never had any exhaust hooked up...

Temps would go up above 100 and then back down to 55 at times in the winter...
Way too much of a twmp swing...

Anyway, i think i used that 400 watt for like 2 grows b4 i got myself a 1000 watt air cooled hood...
I never looked back ...

Wow though...What was i doing wrong with my 400. 12-13 ounces off a 400 is really good i think...
The most i've gotten off my 400 is like 5-6 ounces...

Theres no doubt u can pull 56 grams per plant with a 400. problem is the coverage isnt that great in a traditional horizontal reflector. this is why it needs to either placed in a verizontal umbrella,or use it vertically, or scrog your plant and use it in a wing.

its hard to compare it to a 600 when a 600 is 50 percent more light.either way,it comes down to the coverage with each bulb wattage and utilizing it correctly for maximum yield.

weight per plant is kind of immaterial as it depends on how much you veg. to get the most out of a lamp you need a good reflector( if you are horizontal), you need a good environment, the correct size and shape footprint (50-60 watts per square foot is regarded optimum) and you need to find a way to get as many buds packed into that footprint as possible. gaps in your canopy dont weigh anything ;)

First time I ran a 1000w I barely pulled 12 ounces...almost 10 years later, I can confidently say that with familiar genetics and a dialed-in environment I could likely double that without breaking a sweat. All in how ya rock it man... :tiphat:

I will agree with this and try to find some proof in my gallery since most you new folks need to see it to believe it:

Now that was BOB my Box Of Bud. He has been around here for a long time and has proven that over 16 oz with a 400 watter is not ONLY POSSIBLE but expected. Now I have spent the better part of my life learning this craft so like anything else you gotta know WTF your doing but NO ONE should ever say to ANYONE that something is not possible.

You kids talk about 2 liter colas:

Those are BIGGER than a 2 liter so YES it can be done.

To the OP of this thread, take some of what you read here as inspiration to prove them wrong and do so with pictures not words that way they know to slap a different bull.

I have been using 400w lights for 15 years... Never have had a problem w/ production levels... The more you grow, the more you know...:plant grow:

WAGS, how you going to just post up that pic with no ID?

Working on getting a higher yielding line to dial as Ive always had low, but good numbers, from these very low yielding lines.
