400w isn't that great!

Never made more than 0,6gpw with a 400w
Of course I'm not a pro , but I've done it a few times and I never got nice results harvest wise.

I have a broken 600w system sitting, that needs a small fix.

But again I don't want to transport it, send it and get it sent back repaired, because I'm paranoid.

So yeah stuck with my 400w then.
But yeah when I've done a 600w thing last year the results were amazing.

Point of the thread is, get a 600w if you can . Hehe.

You should be able to pull at least 2oz per plant with a 400 and the right strain. I use 600 and my Yield will very considerably depending on strain im running..4-6oz per plant with a 600...thats the best I can do without running the same strain over and over to dial it in..

why not a 1000?

if the point is to get as much as you can (some say you dont get real buds until you got a 1000)

personally i just go for what i need, but i dont sell either. (cant go smaller, cause id be lacking, wont go bigger (whats the point, i dont need all that bud, nor do i want to deal with more fan noise or devote more space and time to this)

heh, the point im saying is that, 600 would not fit all, some would be quite happy even with a 150w.

while only the sun would satisfy others.

I can only run 6 at a time. I only grow for myself but Im always way over my limit for harvested weight. Im always trying to find places to stash my stash.. I turned on 2 600 for this current grow of 3 Kali Mist and 3 Afghani #1. The lights will be at different levels as the Kali stretches allot.

I currently have 7 white rhinos under a 400w , but the grow isn't going as lush as usual.
No bugs or anything, but the plants don't like the soil I always use.. I really hope they will get better.

I plan on getting 150grams or optimistically if I get 200 I'll be really happy. But 3 of the 7 are a bit sick and they're feminized seeds, so the stress might bring me mucho trouble, hermie-wise.
Will update with some pics tomorrow.

also, so far, 100% success with feminized seeds. didn't have a hermie yet with 3 grows with feminized.

But yeah as someone said, you don't know what's a real bud until you have a 1000. hehe
But no way in hell I'd run a 1000w.. The cooling seems too much of an issue and where I live we don't have snow. It's pretty warm all the time. (realtively speaking)


I'm still not sure if I should risk sending the 600w system for repair..

The biggest problem for me is odor control, so in a way, less buds , less smell. With a 600w maybe I couldn't control the smell. Too much bud. hehe

But those massive buds look so damn nice. And getting those extra grams is always a pleasure.

I remember the 400 watt days. I personally wouldn't touch anything but 1000's. Just gotta get every bit of light out of your 400 with no waste and some milar. Doesn't mean you can't get nice buds out of your 400 though. It's all about maximizing a heavy strain to get a gram a watt and dwc is the easiest way I've found to do it. You really have to have your strain dialed in to get more yield for you. Co2 helps a grat deal too. I get at least 20% more weight from co2. If you add co2 you have to raise the temps to 80ish.

Just took down my first plant, 48.3g after i smoked a few g.

3 more that are larger than the first plant, at least 60g each.

Wont be getting 200 huh ?

14.5 is what i got using 400s. i dont miss them. 600s are the way to go for me.

Yep 600 watters have the best efficacy. Usually even better than the 1000 watters. In terms of lumens/watt.

In retrospec I wish I went 600w instead of my 400w. Does 600 kick out alot more heat than the 400w? Have heat issues during summer months. Need to find ways to cool my cab without buying ac (small scale grower wont make sense to invest in ac). Any ideas would be appreciated.

lol blame the light because you can't grow...typical mentality these days, nobody ever takes responsibility for their own problems...unfortunately there are tens of thousands of 400w hps lights in use all over north America...and the more work they put into growing, the better yields they get, it's not impossible by a long shot to break a pound with a 400, lots of people do it, lots of lazy asses out there too not doing their research, and ending up with an ounce or two or not making it to harvest at all. the amount of research and experience you have is directly related to the yield of your grow, much more so than the wattage of a light. if you can only pull 2 ounces with a 400w do you really think you could magically pull 2 pounds with a 1000w instead? i quit growing for over 5 years and pulled 290 grams my first harvest back in the game! my second grow was almost the same, though i count it as more because it was all chemdog ibl and og kush, not heavy yeilders like the ak47 i ran with them on my first round. i'm on day 22 of budding and it's already looking like i'm going to get at least 12 zips on round 3...you should probably work harder rather than badmouth all 400w grows! knowledge is power...and yield!

If you're complaining about the yield and quality of harvest from a 400w.... why would you want to dig yourself a bigger hole?

Read. Read. Read. Grow. Grow. Grow.
Take notes.... Read them.

Once you get the 400w producing great bud.... then go for a bigger light. Anything else in this situation would be a waste.
