400w CMH/HPS Organic Lambsbread

Who dat is,

I'm wondering if you got the clones from a dispensary in Sacramento? It looks a lot like the Lambsbread I have been working with, which was represented as sativa from Jamaica.
Sure seems Indica dominant to me, who knows where dispensary clones come from?......Anyway, mine turns out nicely and has an aroma that is very distinctive and different from any cannabis I've encountered...kind of like white chocolate and hazel or macadamia nuts. Sent it out for analysis. Tested at 18.5% THC.
Looks like you are making good use of your space.....

I got the clones from a dispensary in Colorado and I have no idea where they got it from, they didn't have too much information on it either. I think the best I got from their info was that it is a 60-70 day flowering strain. You got any other info from your personal experience? How long were you flowering, how many clones, what lights, nute schedule? I'll be glad to hear any info you care to share. Thanks for the input man.

Great lookin grow who dat! Sorry to hear about the hermies, that's really a bummer. I'm a little suspect of the seaweed being the culprit however. My soil mixes contain a good amount of kelp meal and I've regularly used AACT's with seaweed extract throughout the entire grow, and haven't had a hermie in over 6 years. My guess would be the cut you got is genetically predisposed to being hermaphroditic maybe? Some strains/hybrids are just that way.

On a side note, I took a trip out to Jamaica last year to collect some seeds. I got Blue Mountain Sativa, Diamond Sativa, Jamaican High Grade, and Lambsbread. I'm currently growing some of my Lambsbread stock and in some ways is quite unique. It's definitely heavily sativa leaning and has very thin and long pistils which stand up very straight. The smell is what sets it apart from anything else I've grown, very hard to describe. It could easily pass as smelling like "meat" (or lamb). To me the smell is kind of a cross between a meaty minerally smell (the way liver tastes) and puppy's breath, with just a hint of skunk underneath it all. Very unique.

Anyway good luck with the rest of your grow and hope your hermie situation stays manageable. Oh yea... I've attached a couple shots of my Lambsbread for reference. Day 57 flowering (probably still a few weeks to go)

Thanks for the input smoove. The reason that I though I messed up with the seaweed is because I feel like I way overdid it. I ended up using 3 tbls/gallon for making an ACT and then 4 days later fed them with nutrients along with another 3 tbls/gallon seaweed again. Either that pushed them over the line or they do in fact have a genetic predisposition. I will look into that some more if I can. In the mean time I haven't seen many nanners popping out on the girls, one to two male flowers trying to start up again per plant. My newest hurdle is coming across what I think was a thrip larvae. It looked about like the little guy on the far left in this picture.
WFT.jpg

I had a close look at it with a magnifying glass to try and get a good mental image and then promptly ended it's little life. I've since bought some Monterey Garden Insect Spray with Spinosad and sprayed all the girls really good. I know it's getting on into flower but I wanted to go ahead and hit them now before it got any later into flowering. So that's where I'm at now. Below are the pics as of an hour ago.

Time for an update! The girls are starting to smell good. Trichomes are really kicking off now and the colas are starting to sway when I move the plants around. One or two of the bigger ones are already starting to get a gangster lean to them if you know what I mean. The plants are still eating the lower fans and it's really interesting to see the process, this in turn is opening up more light for lower budsites and they are taking off. I just make it a habit to pull them out every 3 or so days and pull off any dead and dying leaves and also check for stupid bananas. I find at least two or three on each plant every time I check but hell this is a labor of love and I don't mind it. Questions, comments? Shoot.

So today is day 54 and I fed them on day 51 with organic nutes. I was debating on making a tea or not to give to them tomorrow and that would probably be the last feeding I would give them until the end. From the best info I've found this strain seems to be a 60-70 day strain. I was counting on going at least 70 days. I'm going to pull them out later today and give them a good looking over and pull nanners (sigh) and yellowing dead leaves. Will take pictures then and try to take a careful look at trichomes to maybe get a better idea of when to harvest. Thanks for any info.

Alright, finally got around to taking some pictures. Today is day 54 and since I'm posting at midnight I guess you could say it's day 55 technically. I've noticed a good bit of amber trichomes on the older leaves that are on the colas but the newer growth is all mostly clear/cloudy. Hard to tell with the magnifying glass I have and I will have to get batteries for my handheld microscope soon. Still anticipate going another two weeks or so until the chop. After seeing how far along my girls are I decided against feeding them anymore or using any more ACT's. I'm only going to water with regular dechlorinated water with 1 tsp/gallon molasses. I've thought about using bottled distilled water as we have pretty hard water around here. I'm not sure what the difference in ppm is between city water and well water either, food for thought. If anybody has any thoughts on the water issue I would love to hear it. Also, I'm going to be switching out bulbs and putting in the CMH tomorrow right before the light comes on. Anyways, here are the pictures.

Time for another update. The end is drawing near really fast and I'm getting excited Today is day 60 so another week or so and they will be coming down. The growth on top closest to the light is mostly amber trichs where as the middle of the colas and lower parts are still mostly cloudy. I don't know what this translates into but I figured this was a good timeframe. If anybody has any input on regarding this I would love to hear it. I've just been giving the girls regular water with molasses @ around 1 tsp/gallon. I'll probably do this one more time before chopping and that will be it. I'm hoping the buds will at least fill in some more and be denser. The calyxes strike me as looking rather small. Anyways, here are the pictures and I would love to hear what you guys think.

is that time? harvy time?

Yeah dude..way to grow. :)

I had enough time to trim up one friday but then I headed down the hill to rage it at phish saturday night and last night, fucking sick by the way. Just got back home and I'm going to finish trimming the other two. My estimates for final yield are around 4 zips. I was hoping for 6 but blah, blah, blah.... Will update later tonight with pics. I thought this thread had lost interest a long time ago, lawl.

Been pretty busy the last week or so and I haven't had time to sit down and do a final write up so I'm finally sitting down and doing it. While I had a lot of fun doing this grow and I did learn quite a bit I still came up with some less than expected results. Oh well, live and learn. Final counts for the girls were, #1 22.3 grams, #2 23.7 grams, and #3 21.1 grams. Anybody wanting to learn from my mistakes then be sure to.....
1. Veg the appropriate amount of time. I was in a hurry thinking I had to get the girls to finish before the annual inspections were to happen (I live in an apartment complex). Turns out they happened before they were finished and I managed to keep the girls out of sight. I would also like to add that I'm a registered patient and 100% legal but I would prefer to avoid questions and BS whenever possible.

2. On a similar note above don't underestimate the correct pot size. I stayed with the 3 gallons when I should have gone to 5 gallons. I guess when in doubt pot up, especially with organic soil.

3. Don't get too crazy with seaweed extract. I goofed up and gave them an ACT with the recommended dosage and then next watering gave them the same recommended dosage. So they got 3 tablespoons full in two consecutive waterings. It is my belief that all the extra hormones in the seaweed given too soon together stressed the plants and hermed them out. I checked and do not have any light leaks and all the plants hermed at the same time. I believe that if it was indeed a light leak that caused the herming it would have only affected one plant at a time, the one with the leak hitting it, not all three at the same time.

4. If you're buying clones don't pick your plant by the leaf pattern. I was aiming for a more indica dominant plant and they didn't have any info on the lambsbread strain yet as it was a new one they just got. Turns out it was a skunk x ruderalis cross from the info they later had.

5. Before the chop I let them sit in darkness for 36 hours. They came down on day 69. I don't think this hurt anything and I don't know what else it helped either. I can say though that after only being dry for a week the smoke is incredibly smooth with no harshness or expansion to speak of. The taste is not there at all which is disappointing but hopefully that is something that will come along with the cure. At least the smell is there and they don't have that homegrown hay smell which is a nice improvement over anything I have done in the past. Also, I had to start running clones before I could properly dry the bud so hung the bud in paper bags with the top folded over itself to let them dry out as slow as possible. I did this for 4 or 5 days per plant in a bag. This is not ideal and would certainly not recommend this to anyone who is not in an extremely dry climate. The buds had stems that would snap at this point but the buds are extremely delicate and crumble very easily. They are now in mason jars where I burp them once a day although I feel like I let them dry out way too much and this is kind of pointless now.

6. I wouldn't monocrop again. My train of thought was that I'm still learning quite a bit about crowing cannabis and if I got all the same kind of plant then if a problem cropped up it would be easier to handle it as they all respond the same way and have the same needs/requirements. Now I see that if the strain isn't quite what you were looking for then you are stuck with all of the same kind of flavor. If I have a choice then I will not do this again. Just like Jay Kush says, "Diversity is the key to human ignorance". On this note my round 2 couldn't be more opposite, more to come on that later though.

That's it for the main points I can think of for now, if something else pops up I will edit it in or make an updated post.

For now, let's get on with the pictures.

Group shot, last time they saw the light before the darkness period and subsequent chop.

That's it and that's all. If you have any questions or comments I would love to hear them as I am always looking for improvement. I already have a round 2 in the works and it goes something like this, same tent with the 400 CMH for veg and a 1000 HPS for flower. Lineup is Herijuana, Banana Kush, Head Band, Purple Voodoo, Bubble Gum, Strawberry Cough... certainly no Lambsbread. I'll provide a link as soon as I get around to making a new thread, it will be in the grow diary section of the site though. Thanks for everybody who was watching.

congrats on the harvest wdi! :greenstars:

it's always nice having a few jars full of buds, even if you were hoping for a little more. and sounds like it's good smoke, and lemme tell you, yesterday i opened the second jar from my harvest a month ago, and the extra time curing makes a HUGE improvement on taste/smell/effect.

since you asked for suggestions...

more veg time: you could def veg a lot more before the flip. in organic soil it's better to over grow in veg, then prune back before the flip. the extra root growth will pay off in flowering.

bigger pots: i'd go #5 or even #7 if you can fit them. try a nutritious mulch this round, or even give mad's living mulch a try. this will help a lot with maximizing the efficiency of your soil system.

IMHO, your biggest issue was the "skunk x ruderalis."

kelp/seaweed is good: it didn't herm your plants, they were born that way. i think the timing was more coincidence than causality. more stable genetics make a huge difference in a small grow. less issues for the gardener and better product at the end.

your LST is great. if you give it an extra few weeks in veg this time around, you can cultivate 4 or 5 times as many tops to fit in the same space. with stable genetics and lots of healthy living soil you can be pulling half pounds outta there no problem.

it was a great show and i appreciate you sharing your experiences with us! i'll definitely be sticking around for round 2.
