im a 400 watter but i also use my 250 for side light.
if one has a digital ballast there is no point in flowering under a MH instead of a HPS. the best halides are only 29,000 to 39,000 lumens were a 400 watt HPS is 50,000 to 63,000 lumens almost double the light as the MH
MH i like to use very much in veg but for flower its always going to be my "Super NRG" HPS lamp which provides 63,000 lumens and is enhanced blue spectrum a bit.
i do also wish like the first page i think like the 5th post that the one guy wishes he would of got a 400 and 600 instead of a 250 and a 400 like i did and i wish id of done the same 400 and 600 watters. live and learn. but its all good.

lol i hear ya evil, people dont realize how cheap 400watters are to power and end up buying small 150 watters that draw the same amount amps as a 400. where i live the rate is around 6-7 cents/ kwh so a 400 watt ballast on 24/7 would cost me around 18-23 bucks a month with the 6" vortex going 24/7 on 1/2 speed
you can run 4 flower cabs with 2 400 ballasts on flip flop for 36-46 bucks a month

Can I put seedlings under 400w MH?
Can I put seedlings under 400w MH?
My seedlings are 4 days from sprouting thru the soil & I'm wondering if it would be OK to put them under my air cooled 400w MH at about 3 - 3 1/2 feet distance? Is it too much for them?
The only other light I have is a 4' std. T12 cool white shop light that they were sprouted under, but they seem to be stretching with that light 1-2" above them.

I would put them under some 24 inch Flourescents...You can get them at wal mart for like 14.00$ but make sure they are the ones for plants.
keep them under there for a week or two then add a little air flow via fan..DO NOT PUT DIRECTLY ON THEM!!!!!! or too near for that matter...I keep the two I have under 12 hours of 400 hps you can use MH thats actually a better spectrum for vegging...and away you go!!!!!!!
Be aware that I am a new Farmer as well with this being my 3rd crop in the past 7 months. I have done a lot of homework, and I am still ironing out nuturient additives and perfecting the cure (being impatient is a big thing for me) making sure it's long enough before being smoked...

here are some shots from the harvest, post, after, the dry box, dry drawer and dry wall, new clones for the next harvest...gonna try sea of green method and force flower at 12 inches.....
heres the blueberry (plastic bowl), afgahni mystery (coffee cup)
now heres the pre trim and post final trim

There currently under 3 week of flowering and Im pretty excited
