very strange feeling in Amsterdam tonight
for a Friday night the Dam was a ghost town, empty streets empty bars
looks like there is no flights from the UK till sun now, even if the Uk clears Schiphol looks bad for now
as the cloud seems to be almost stationary, I really hope you guys get here the cup is all about you

OP

Hope as many as possible can make it, a couple of my mates from america have no chance of now, they are gutted. 3 of us from the UK are in London now and will get the train to Belgium tomorrow morning, will be in A'dam for lunchtime to pick up the passes.
Is there a certain place to pick them up from OP?

Best of luck to anyone trying to make it!

If things dont clear up by monday, im driving to Amster fucking dam!

this is the bbc report i found

Scientists are struggling to work out if the eruption itself could continue for days, weeks or even months.

But, as Professor Jon Davidson - an earth scientist from the University of Durham - told BBC News, it was not the eruption per se that caused the problem.

"It's the fact that the prevailing winds are driving the ash plume over the UK," he explained.

And scientists in Iceland reported on Friday morning that the volcano was continuing to generate a tall plume of ash - contributing to the cloud already drifting high in the atmosphere over the UK.

So the cloud that has grounded UK flights appears to be continuing to grow. And the researchers say that could go on for several days.

Dr David Rothery, a volcanologist from the UK's Open University agrees this could happen, but suggests that it is unlikely.

"It is usual that an explosive eruption like this has its most intensive point at the start and that it gradually subsides," he told BBC News.

What scientists are trying to find out, he explained, is if the [ongoing] eruption is explosive enough to create a tall column of ash and continue feeding the plume.

It is the explosion that initially forces the ash upward - expanding gas at the eruption site generates thrust. From there, the cloud of dust and gas rises because it is warmer than the surrounding air.

So if the eruption continues to be intense and explosive, giving the ash that initial upward thrust, the plume that has been blown in UK and European airspace could continue to grow.

But according to the most recent reports from the UK Met Office and the Icelandic Met Service, ash is now being released in pulses rather than a continuous plume.

When I used to commute between the dam and UK (London)....fastest, easiest way (besides a plane) is Eurostar....runs from London and goes through the channel tunnel and ends in Brussels, where you change to Thalys or Dutch rail service into the dam. Total trip time is about 3 hrs London-Brussels then another cpl hours Brussels-Amsterdam.

Hope that helps!

edit to add: link to Eurostar to book online: http://www.eurostar.com/dynamic/index.jsp

eurostar from london to brussels is £179 ( one way ), maybe get a train from brussels to amsterdam after that, im in london just now, traveled 5 hrs on the train to get here, and will be leaving in a few hrs to get the eurostar to brussels, then picked up from there and should be in amsterdam for about 1, :) , going to get a sleep for about 1hr then back up to start again, its been fun, been stoned all the way, had a good bubble bong and smoked a joint of bubblegum before i got on any train, will be doing the same very soon, makes the journey a bit more bearable, hope more of you can make it also.

The online booking is a bit tricky.....there are many departures daily, and when economy is full it will quote the higher rates....just have to keep scrolling until you find a better departure time fare.
