I agree with what you said Firein.TheSky

However, the real breeders, such as bodhi, are coming out with landrace genetics that have never touched western modern breeding. That will open up an entire new genetic gene pool. He has already worked the lines to the point where genetically undesirable traits such as hermi or hempy buds have been worked out. How much would you pay for those genetics? How about a fully developed new line of cannabis with 100% unique terpines?

The good breeders are out there. Those beans are worth the money.

Terrible example. Bodhi is one of the best at quality and price.

Relentless, Bodhi, Archive and the like are putting out good shit for a third the price.

Don't even get me started on CBG and Charlie Garcia that dude is the diamond in the rough!

As for the"breeders" knowing more than growers and every one is just haters? Putting the pussy on a pedestal! Bang out more #10s and they lose their eye candy appeal. You will start the search for a woman with character and truly desirable traits. Instagram bag appeal ain't everything.

Calling all the amazing growers on this site haters that don't know jack is ignorant at best. I keep hearing Cartman from south park every time I read stuff like that. The growers are where it's at! The breeders are just trying to keep up with us normal folk that bring the heat. None of these guys are documenting their breeding practices, not a single one. Guys like Tony G are 100% transparent and fully documented yet catch shit for being a chucker. He is a guy the rest should look up to. But they won't show because they are pretty much just normal growers like the rest of us.

I was raised by a horticulture professor that got lifetime acheavment awards for research and breeding. He had several plant patents in his name. Real scientist type guys teaching at NCAA universities. I can see through the bullshit from a mile away. These stoners are going to get steamrolled flat by real breeders and they know it.

Tens of thousands of NEW farmers who know no better and will be willing to pay whatever is stated...

Its the GOLD RUSH right now and people are capitalizing BIGTIME on it...

$300 for 10 seeds is Ridiculous and WHOEVER sets the prices, should be VERY ashamed of themselves..

The mentioned breeders in the original post, are not even breeders in the top 20, shit maybe not the top 50 of top breeders, sad to see...

Top notch breeders such as OGRASKAL, Exotic Genetics and Obs seed packs are not even $300 for 10, at least last time I bought them a few months ago...

all that said, there are varieties out there , from breeders genetics that I have huge respect for, that I would be willing to "spend" on. Sadly, neither of those guys have offered anything new in quite some time. I'm not going to mention names. packs are out there of both's past work, one sells for under a 100 and the other for more than a 100.
I notice that both have also maintained their stellar reputations over a few decades of breeding, even though nothing new has come from either in a long time now. But if both came back tomorrow at 300 a pack, well, my thoughts on that are already posted here LOL

yeah but every 12 page thread about how bunk a seed company is and how all their shit is fake, every third page is a small group who bought the seeds still in veg, going to bat like they own stock in the company that just burned them, and a couple newbies lining up to buy some too....

one single cola plant will produce hundreds of seeds... you do the math.... animal breeders work with animals that can only be bred x amount of times, produce way less offspring and the animal dies ....

hmmm....

The first pack of seeds I bought was Brothers Grimm C99 back in 2001. It was $75 for 5 seeds. $15 a seed seemed expensive, but it was worth every penny.

15 years later, the cost of living has gone up. I could see paying $30 a seed for really top quality genetics. I'm sure top quality genetics are available for cheaper prices too.

Unless it's something extremely rare and/or a Cup Winner.
I think anything over $100 is too much for 10 seeds.
But that's just me.

What is good genetics? and what is that worth to you?
I see everyone talking about cookies and chems and sours and cheeses LOL
these come from totally unkown mashups of polyhybrids, their "genetics" are virtually all over the map. But yet we call them new "strains" and look for their traits in completely unrelated weed. Like I've seen guys post comments about a strain with no "cookies" in it or "chem" in it, yet folks looking at the pics and saying oooo, that must have the forum cut in it, or it's cookie genetics really stand out. I could laugh myself right out of my chair when I read that stuff. we were growing weed that looks exactly like the best example of GSC , 20 years ago LOL. IIRC it was a NL5 cross with something good LOL
so fast forward to 2016
buy a pack of 10 seeds, regardless of the price and hope to get how many keeper females that each stand out in their own way and each would please the palate and head of virtually any seasoned toker?
we used to get excellent results for under a 100bux many years ago, and I notice today, there are literally 100's of "strains" out there that claim and owe their roots to those 65.00 per 10 seed packs from the "top" breeders when seed buying started to become mainstream.
I think it's the looming legalization as well as the millions of the younger generation getting into the grow scene and they are falling for the hype like they fall for the next best Iphone or nike runners.

I agree , everyone always kills their males...... you are throwing away so much potential for your garden. Even bag seeds from weed that you really liked. Look at Chunkypigs and what that fella has accomplished with being curious enough to grow out his bag seed. Then add in the fact that he realized he had something special and DID SOMETHING about it, with no grand claims , just a desire to share it with everbody. His story is kinda like panning for gold vs choosing varieties for certain traits and combining and finding a keeper thru pheno hunting and breeding practices, but goes to show you how "fire" can be found anywhere, not just in the beans of some trumped up, over advertised, I used to be somebody seed makers.

Throw 50k at HighTimes and you too can "gain the market" with "superior genetics".

I disagree with price gouging and that makes me a "hater"?

I agree there are quality breeders doing things proper, but numbers wise, it's untested pollen chucking.

Fuckin' eh Tony, you're spittin gold. I keep trying to get huk on here, you two are very like minded, but no go.

STS ;)

A lot of it is just mindless following of fashion- some people will pay exorbitant sums for the new hotness, whatever it is. That doesn't make it better- just makes it trendy in what is a very trendy market. Posters here who've been in the game for a long time can recall all the Hot! Hot! Hot! varieties that have come & gone over the years but I'm sure of one thing-

Real quality is something that endures, that never gets old. It doesn't necessarily have a lot to do with price, either. Some of the finest cannabis cultivars are some of the oldest & many of those have never been terribly high priced.

At some point or another, buyers are just playing into the fame game.
