It's perfectly normal.....the white hairs turn orange/amber/red/whatever color when they die off and the plant makes more calyxs and hairs in search of male pollen eventually filling out and thus forming what we cal buds.
2 weeks does sound a bit early to see the hairs change color/die off but what strain are you growing....I am wondering if the shorter amount of time a plant needs to flower and finish (ie pot o gold finishes within 6 weeks).
thanks for the help. i feel a little less worried now. i know there is different colored hairs dead or not, just worried something is wrong with my nutrients or light. i don't know what strain it is got the seed from a $50 1/8th. pretty good stuff.
It can happen from many things too aswell though....like to much heat or the growing medium being to dry so the plant drys up a bit in return and some hairs die off....don't worry about it...I'm in my 4th week of flower and some hairs are turning orange...maybe like 20 hairs in total,
when i went to sex the plant i switched the light to 12/12 just enough to see a few hairs then switched back to 18/6 it was still puttin out hairs a week or so after i put it back into veg cycle. i vegged it for a few weeks after switching it back to 18/6 then put it into flower. i was vegging it for a good three maybe four months before flowering. could the continuous flowering after i switched it to veg again be a reason or maybe the long veg time. as for the magic dust are you talking about male pollen, if so there are no males in my box only one female, first grow in it also, so no old pollen ether.
brainthor- took a look at my plant today and spotted a odd looking pistol. looked at it closer and indeed it is a hermi. did some looking around on the site and looks like what other described, little banana looking things and a pistol in the middle. only one i have found so far, going to continue to keep an eye out for them. what does this mean for my plant know other then its going to produce seeds, feminized i think. will i still be able to finish it if i cant get others before they pop.
this could be, i did still have some branches tied down. i LST my plant and kept some of the lower branches tied so they could get more light, but i untied them now. hopefully this will help keep it from putting any more hermies out. i am really thankful for evryones replies they are defiantly helping out. i still got a lot to learn.
Taking the string off your plant will not stop it from putting out bannanas. I would be prepared for heavily seeded buds if you continue her to finish. Also, the seeds will most likely be no good as they too will be hermi prone. You might get a few that are not, but it's not worth the hassle growing them.
I can't see really clearly from your picture, but the lower forming buds look heavily filled with bannana's. Could be just the picture, but it doesn't look good. Sorry for the bad news. I hope you have better luck with new seeds. PM me if you are having trouble finding seeds. I might be able to point you in the right direction.
TGT- i think you are confusing gsavill90 post with mine. i havent put any pics of my plant up, dont have a camera to do so. the plant is looking fairly good, buds are filling out nice but you are probably right it will be very seedy. put to much time and love into it dont really want to get rid of her. if i keep taking clones and growing those over and over again would the hermi eventually go away. already took some clones before i put it in flowering mode. this is the best strain of cannabis i can find in my area, tried to order some seeds from the boutique but never came in. i live in the US so this makes it even harder for me to order them. damn USA and their cannabis laws. i guess all i can do is keep an eye out for other bananas and hope for the best. also, i should probably clean out my box to get rid of excess pollen.
If you took cuts before you did the old switcheroo to 12/12 then back to 18/6,your cuts have a fair chance of being all female.I believe that is the reason your plant decided to herm,it became photoperiod cornfused.Choose a photoperiod and stick with it lol!Its true you can go from 24/0 to 18/6 to 16/8 then back to 24/0 if you're so inclined, but you should never go from 12/12 back to a veg photoperiod.
if you shouldn't switch form 12/12 back to veg how else can you sex them with out having to fully veg your plant then flower it. i thought a lot of people did this to determine the sex when they are smaller so they dont have to wait the whole veg time to know if its worth keeping or not.
With many strains you can tell sex by preflower around the fourth week with a good magnifying glass.Another way is to take a cut as soon as possible and put it under a 10/14 photoperiod, the cut doesnt need to root to show sex.You can also use 12/12 on the cutting but the added 2 extra dark hours forces the cut to show faster normally. What you describe is not a common sexing practice at all, people keep seedplants until sex is determined then switch to 12/12
