the plumbing on the bottom of the buckets is for draining all water from the buckets. i have 2 valves on those so i can drain 1 side at a time if i wanted to. i have considered pumping air into the buckets also...since all i would need to do is plug in some kind of homemade airstone or diffuser into the 3/4" pvc that is in the bottom of each bucket. i currently just have a pvc garden hose connection but i could just splice in something to hook up to an air compressor or a pump...but i would need to make sure that it was a 1 way valve i think sine it would have all the water trying to drain from gravity.
tips for all that i found out from this project so far:
- use pvc its cheaper than dirt and strong as hell and never leaks...unless of course you have to have a flex fitting.
- deckmate screws with the square drive are the ish for all wood construction.
- hot glue hot glue hot glue hot glue hot glue hot glue hot glue...cant say enough good things about the structural support this provides to connections and its ease of use.
the latest on the room:
last night i finished studding, insulating (r19 fiberglass), and 1" foamboarding (tyvex) the existing garage door in the background so that there is more than 1/8" sheet metal betweem the ladies and the neighborhood.
currently i plan on using squares of tyvex with 4" holes on the tops of each bucket to block all light from hitting the bucket...not sure yet if that would be sufficent or if i need to wrap um up too.
the next step is the room that is being built around the system. it will divide the res from the flowering room so the 4" plumbing will just stick through the middle of the wall. i'll then build an interior window frame into the new partition wall so i can just pop an ac into it for the flowering rooms cooling needs (still considering a stand up ac not positive yet..since its more space and more expensive).
for the res i have no problem picking up a water chiller if i need it...or possibly rigging something up to my extra garage freezer.
on my way out the door to hit a large music venue event then i leave for a week or so vacation so i gotta jet for a bit but when i get back there will be more progress pics and the system should be just about ready for the attack of the killa clonez. then we let the ladies navigate this craft into orbit.
that is the nicest lookin setup i can remember seing!! I cant wait to get a place big enough to try all the crazy ideas i think up. Thats somethin to be proud of I3inary. This will be my first bookmarked thread.
I can tell you will be an excellent grower based upon your ability to read information, digest it, and act on it. People like us are dangerous Very thoughtfu and planned out. I am sure you have numerous pages of sketches and notes, as I did on my first two rooms. You will find this is the best way to grow, DIY.
Clones, I can only say one thing here and that is Temperature* Temperature* Temperature* If you want fast rooted clones that are healthy and ready to grow, you must be dilligint about the 75-80F temperature range. I have had the best results with 80F, and super high humidity(95%+)... 5-7 days for roots on the faster strains.
Strains for DWC, your buckets are reasonably closely spaced, so you could probably do very well with something that doesn't branch excessively. But then again, DWC plants just tend to do very well no matter the strain. Chronic is a big yeilder, as well as The HOG. Any Afghani, Northern Lights, and Skunk#1 Hybrids will be big yeilders. With 600s, you do not want to veg much more than 2 weeks... and this can be done in a separate room, as a pre-veg. so that you are ready to start the next cycle on bloom quickly after harvest.
Congrats on the room brother, you should be proud.
Come Take a walk down Easy Street...
Any strains I have grown done well, nice big plants everytime. M39 I wouldn't recommend, I know many guys that have grown it and never grown it again. It is cheap commercial crap in Canada. Your AK will do nice. Props on the setup.
my vacation kinda lasted an extra 10 days...but i did get to hit up SF and check out their dispenceries while i was there. the most notable being the vapor room....man that place had the whole street smelling like a skunk sprayed it. props to them for running such a tight ship and being nice peoples to boot.
i did run my system for the last 20 days with just tap water and found a major issue with the sealant layer that i used overtop all my hotglue...unfortunately it was a latex silicone mix...and it kinda disintegrated and eventually i sprung a few pretty bad leaks...soooo i drained most of the system in order to reseal all of these connections since i would rather do it now than later.
i also will be replacing the vertical inlet tubing with radiator hose...i kinda just ran across the current corregated tubing in home depot while picking up everything else and for some reason even hoseclamps overtop of them some of them leak no matter what...oh well lesson learned.
ill be posting some pics of my soil grow that is in its last week of flower now... this is the same phenos of ak47 which i cloned and will be dropping in the buckets when i get them resealed.
the blood sweat and brainjuices are still flowing, eh? be sure to post up what type of hose NOT to use so nobody else makes the mistake please, your gettin closer now by the day!
looks like you got 3/4" feed lines? if so, instead of using radiater hose. ya can get a 100' 3/4" id pvc garden hose at home depot for about $40. works great in this type of application.
Mutha F*cker!!! Oh, is my hat off to you. Mmmm!! Been lurkin these hydro threads myself. I've seen the setups. Yours, my friend, is a masterpiece. I'll be watchin w/interest. I'm thinkin a 6 - 8 bucket setup. Collecting all the parts now.
