Just wanted to show off my catfish. This fine specimen was caught 7-27-05 on the Black River near Kingstreet, SC, using cut bait while night fishing. Put up a very nice fight but you can see the resulting conclusion of the fight.Weighed in at just a little over 23 pounds. She was enjoyed in a delicious stew and had some coated in a flour cornmeal mix and deep fat fried. This baby fed 14 people and still had enough for the next day for dinner. Couldn't help it, just had to brag a little.

Thanks guys. B.C. this is a flathead. I wish I had a better pic to show you but the one that does has a face that no one would really want to see anyway. lol Guy in a boat came by earlier in the afternoon had one that weighed around 36 lbs on the floor.

huh?

huh?

I don't mean to sound like a butthead, but flatheads don't have a fork tail and the fin that is between his tail and his pooper is too long for a flathead. I think it's a blue or a channel... it doesn't really matter though... it's a good-in !

B.C. you are absolutly correct. It is not a flathead. They are in the river there though. Talked to my father after the post I made here and he straightened me out.lol
It is/was a channel cat and what the oldtimers called a river cat. Sorry, about that.

hieagle420- Love to fish Santee. Wish I had a nickle for every crappie I caught out of the standing timber in the lakes. Used to fish the diversion canal alot especially when the water turn and the mussels came to the top. We would dip them up and use the to catch the catfish with. Shellcrackers and cats in the tailrace. Man you brought back some memories with the memtion of Santee. Thanks.

Did you ever "noodle" for catfish?

The crazy locals pull mega size cats out of the rivers doing this.

Personally I think the technique is nuts.

Never noodled. To many water mocassons(sp) where I'm from to be sticking my arms in a hole in the river bank. Big alligator turtles too. I'm talking big enough to bite your hand off. Just never had the nerve to do it.
