Hey bro, yeah those drop things are lame. I tried one and admittedly it was a wide range kit, but I was still testing within it's range, but it was way out. Way, way, way out. Like 2 or 3 out, if I remember right.

And what happens when you have thick muddy nutes? What happens if you make EM and can't tell if it's just in range, or just out of range? There is a lot of false noise about ph meters imo. Neither me nor 3 friends ever keep our meters in storage solution, we all use the same brand, and they all work for years. Comparing the price of the drop kit I bought, I can say that a good PH meter is faster, more reliable, and more economical than drops.

Sadly I'm not into sports and I'm also the least patriotic aussie you'll ever come across so I hope Canada cleans up :D I've been skiing though, it's awesome.

Good morning and nice colouring there! What's with the helpful post button? lol. This could get interesting! :D

You know, my overall theory on mine being not as perfect as I would like, is a combo of things but pot size is definitely part of it. I think small pots, mixed with air holes, mixed with being stoned off my head and lazy/not watering enough, has caused the mix drying out on occasion, and this has screwed up the nutrient delivery.

I think my EM is activated! I will test it today although my ph meter has a little bit of slime algae ingrained in it - I don't know what to clean it with safely so I just use a toothbrush and water. Do you know is it ok to pour the AEM in a clean cup, measure it, then tip it back in the bottle?

HydroSUN, I got your name mixed up in the previous post, I do apologise!

lol just clean the pH meter with the AEM. I would not bother though, because I am lazy, and algae is not going to survive.

Oh, don't forget to use your nose.

The reason for the red coloring, btw (don't give it away in the organics forum) is that the pot is half as big as the one holding its twin. I just ran out of pots. So it is stressed out from rootbinding.

I kind of like it. It's burgundy now, but started as a purple sheen.

I really don't watch much sports either!! There are alot of Australian's in Whistler Scrub and I would get in trouble if I did'nt ask!!!
Glad to have some sort of a decent tester now..still need to use it though!!I'm okay till I start throwing food in to the mix..
Thanks

Cool BC. I have a friend over there somewhere at the moment - in Banff I think. :) These are my trusty meters:

So far I've used my PH pen twice in organic gardening, lol. To check my rain water out of curiosity (3.5!), and for the AEM I just brewed. Oh I tested my nutes with the rain water too, strictly curiosity ;)

Cheers ML, well yup, that sounds valid to me (pot size).

The aem smelt pretty good - very similar to the mother culture. My only concern is that it hadn't quite stopped expanding, I only just read it should stop that first - duh, I guess. I had it behind the fridge and it gets around the mid 90ºs back there so it was pretty quick.

Do you shake the bottle when you first mix the em/molasses/water? Nobody seems to mention shaking in the tutorials but I found one that said shake it when you make it, but then no more agitation after that. Also, should the mother culture or the final EM be "shaken" to loosen up the sludge on the bottom before using? I kind of turn it upside down with not much air in the bottle and roll it around a little to encourage it to break free.

:hide: so many questions

Oh yeah and I worked out the dates roughly, I am stopping feeding on most of these gals now - probably less than 3 weeks to go I would guess. (~60 days if I average out the reported TW and the PD flowering times)

agitation is a good thing scrub. it speeds things up. Have you considered buying Vinny Pinto's e-book? I would just send it to you, but this guy needs to make a living too, and it's self published.

The mother culture doesn't need to be agitated as it is "done", but I doubt it hurts. Remember, facultative anaerobes can tolerate oxygen.

The sediment is not going to hurt anything, but you don't have to apply it. I certainly don't add it to my sprayer. As for the expansion, you are good, just use it. If the pH is 3.2 (assuming the pen works), it didn't get that way by accident. That continued fermentation is normal, especially in summer. Good sign. It's alive, right?

I didn't know there was an ebook. I'll check it out thanks (no worries, I like to support the little guys too)

Thanks again and yes, it all seems to be in order - a semi sweet fermented smell, not unpleasant. No outbreaks of weird shit on the surface etc. I poured some down the sink, on the compost heap, on some plants. I already sprayed diluted mother culture over basically everything I own, and me. It totally got rid of the rancid hippy smell on my couch! The rancid hippy is still emitting traces of rancid hippy though.

On the lacto thread someone mentioned they got rid of cat piss smell overnight! All this got me thinking - what if you misted EM into your exhaust flow so it went through a worn out carbon filter... perhaps it could rejuvenate it?

About your plant, I noticed you say it got the same feeds. That would explain it looking like that, no? Smaller pot would need more food and the living soil system would fall down because there is not physically enough root space...or something. (I'm slightly confused what point you're making with it, but reading keenly)

good point scrub, I didn't think of that.

feeding regimen: compost tea once in a while, fish hydrolysate once, worm castings top dressed.

lol probably doing that in a pot this size was a bit ambitious - and lazy! but look at that neat color! well worth it IMO.

btw, if you can't find the ebook from a business near you, I got my copy from midland probiotics

this one has about twice the soil:
DSCF0006.jpg

or more importantly, twice the space. rootbound plants can show symptoms of all kinds of deficiencies, but if you try to fix it with nutes - no dice. I will put some fish hydrolysate to see. Rootbinding also causes overall stress. So if I wanted to, I could time it better so it is just a bit rootbound - enough stress to push the blooming without limiting too much potential.

mostly I was excited my wife let me use her big scary camera, and I wanted to post that shade of red. my phone takes the crappies pics as do the point and shoots.

Cool, yes it looks grand indeed. I had a really strange effect recently on my tomatoes outside. They're in tiny pots - a quart or less, but about 4ft tall or more. After a few days rain recently, almost the whole stem was covered in roots shooting out. Even a foot from the top it was happening! They were about half an inch long, and then they just air pruned and died off. Weird! The root zone is packed solid by the way.

I found I could keep it green even down to the bottom leaves by applying lots of feedings/teas and watering twice daily (occasionally more!), but I slacked off and it started yellowing, and probably getting old too. I posted one of them a while back:

lol scrub that's cool. you turned a tomato into an orchid!

How cold does it get by you? I think tomatoes just keep living and producing if nothing kills them.

mine freeze so I can't test it.

I just got too lazy to repot, lol

Where I am probably gets down to 50 to 55 f at a guess, but cooler in the mountains. :freezing: I think frost in the mountains happens very very verrrry occasionally in the very coldest parts, on a very cold year.

You know, I never really paid attention to the larger toms, but I guess compared to where most of the world lives, we probably have an extended season. Like, most people in cooler weather harvest toms all in one go right? Well yeah, here it's more like you grow them outside and pick some regularly. Not sure how long they actually go for though.

I know that cherry tomatoes will keep growing, I think a couple of years? These are the most common in people's gardens because they're super packed with flavour, and much more resistant to pests, and they self sow happily. My buddies have this in-between version, mid sized fruit which is still very resistant to insects/disease.

Most of mine this time (Roma "strain") had all those problems and neglect and fruited poorly, still had green ones but the plants were a mess, so I cut them way back and they're revegging by themselves. I dumped EM on them now but I'll rip them out and start new ones I think.

I hate to say it but the PK is not looking too great :/ Maybe fungus gnats got to the roots? The other two died altogether but they were weaklings to begin.

Hey Scrub! I once grew cherry tomatoes from seed..man those were tiny seeds...
Are you familiar with how Trainwreck is with nutes?
Is it a heavy feeder?
Hope all is well with you and your cubboard!!
thanks..
Banff is totaly beautiful..truly hard to imagine even from pics..you got to be there...

Yo bro right on! I can't really say for sure as it's just a cross I'm running, and I also had some issues going on, but generally, sure, I think it would be a heavy feeder compared to a lot of strains. It grows big with big buds so I'm voting heavy feeder. I poured tons of food on these suckers.

I'm gonna make a huge batch of cannabutter tonight :hide:

I made a huge batch of cannabutter tonight :hide:

It stunk the place out so bad. I haven't had any but after I wrung the last bit out, I started wiping my hands off, but then thought about it briefly and rubbed it all over my forearms. I feel very strange :D

I used about 40 grams low grade leaf and trim, and 5+ grams primo Pure to 600 grams of butter. Cooked for 3 hours.

I had most of the trim stored slightly over dried in a glass jar and forgot it for months. It actually cured and smelt quite good. I can't believe I caught a buzz from rubbing this stuff on my arms!

That fucking sucks bro, is it surviving?? You able to start the pk again??

Peace.

Hey there boom, she looks pretty bad this second but I put her in coco earlier tonight and a good flush of PH'd very light nutes, and I put perlite on the bottom to fuck with the gnats and help drainage, and put a shitload of DE on top. I think I'm going to start using h2o2 as it (supposedly) kills gnats and will also help out if it was over watered.

I'm pretty confident she will come good, but give it a couple of days I reckon.

Damn bro, I hope it pulls thru for ya. On another note I hope your PD cross is as half as strong as my one, Holy Shit it is strong (not even properly dried), good pain relief for my back :dance013:and a nice strong lemony candy taste that coats the inside of ya mouth for at least an hour afterwards, I actually got some proper sleep last night for the first time in weeks, after smoking a joint of the PD  . And all the seeds are prime as, it's going to be fun this year.
Any pics of yours bro??
Peace.

That's good to hear, brah! :D I'm so looking forward to smoking this! I slide the tray out tonight so I'll get pics of the big girls. One is looking pretty close to ready but I can't find my scope! Will have to take pics of the trichs. My butter turned out great - I think I learnt a new trick. I added way more water than they say or than I've ever added before. It seemed to lower the taste a lot. The butter is quite pale, but the water I tipped out was darker green than usual. Anyways, I'm baked! Got butter for dayz :smokey:

Scrub DE takes a while. In your shoes, I might do tobacco tea (boiled) drench. It knocks them right out. Make sure you don't admit it though, to keep up appearances. Then the DE keeps them at bay.
