Sockets are cheap. You should order those from a local electrical supply shop and order the sockets and bulb supports made by Etlin Daniels.

http://www.etlin.com/ED_pdfs/C_Compact_Fluorescent.pdf

If you prefer, you can order 2G11 sockets from here. $1.99 each - they come in packs of four.

The locking sockets from Etlin on page 17 of the above .pdf are superior. Part you want is CFG211-RSM-REL - comes with a pin locking feature on the socket which is highly desireable. Electrical supply shop will charge you about $3.00 a piece. You may have to wait a week to ten days. Big deal :)

Order the bulb supports at the same time. They run about $1 each.

Don't get 2G11 sockets on eBay.

Hey Fatigues...a fellow Canuck eh?,

AH kits come with a *water resistant* socket. That is the expensive bit I mentioned earlier. They are have molded skirt that fits snuggly around the lamp's base. While they are a bitch to install, I thought it made all kinds of sense. While we are in winter right now, summer can be a bit humid. Also their Miro4 reflectors are awesome. You also get a top quality Fulham ballast and all of the bits and pieces necessary to put your lights together. I could not find a local supplier for the sockets or anything else. It was a big disappointment.

I must have spent 2 months researching everything reading ScrubNinga's, Dr BudaGreens and many other posts and looking for suppliers. I came to the conclusion it was better to buy a whole kit than to try and find all of the bits.

Just my experience,
OO

Cheers for the input Fatigues, although I'd question if the locking ones are needed at all? It's an effort getting mine out as is, it doesn't seem like they'd fall out. Although then again, all you guys are pretty damn professional about this stuff. My vert is out of a fishtank and cost a buck or two from a junk store lol. Ghetto for life.

Thanks bro  By the way, I got 200 grams of diatomacious earth ordered, but still haven't made it to the possible mosquito dunk store. Things seem "under control" though, just from drying out a bit, and the ants are basically gone but still around.

Those PL-L plants are lookin' tasty! I may just have to keep the 150W HPS in storage when I get back and try some of these out instead...though a nice LED is also on my list...

If you're looking for suppliers, HTG Supply also has these pre-made, both the 2ft PL-L Tek lights in the link above and the 4ft ones as well. Price on the former recently dropped $10 to $69.95 for the 2 x 55w units. Been eyeing a few of those myself...

Cheers,

-SX

No worries Boom. If you're low on moolah, they sell miniature tripods on ebay or photo stores, they work pretty good. I set the timer so I can press the button then not touch it when it actually takes the shot, so it's dead still. You can also stand them on a wheelie bin or wutevs.

Sx, how about a 55w slotted each side of the hps?

Still got ages yet Strangely! Over two weeks for sure. I want a lot of amber. I haven't looked at her tonight yet but I'll let yers know as things progress. Shit, I wonder if I could get 3d trichome macros!
:jawdrop:

That DE I ordered is food grade btw. I just went to the corner store and they had cheap kitty litter - diatomite and bentonite. I haven't opened it yet but it feels chunky. I wonder if that's food grade since people and pets would be breathing it? I did a quick bit of research and it seems it would be great stuff to add into the soil mix anyway. (edit) wait maybe not, I read that wrong.

It's Day 71 and there's a long way to go - there are ambers if you hunt around but most are just damage from the buds scraping on that board. Seems to me like 12.5/11.5 or whatever it is has helped some.

Here is a link to the Sunleaves Nova. It holds 2 55 watt bulbs. The photo doesn't look anything like the fixture in real life. I don't know why no one has the correct photo up. It actually has closed ends on the lamp and the reflector is smooth, bright and reflective.
Sunleaves Nova

Next time I will buy my fixtures from AH Supply. I think their reflectors would be brighter than my Nova is.
AHSupply

Thanks for the links, Researcher. I like the remote ballast of the ah supply, think I'll go with that.

Hey Disco! Man, you're talking to the dude that bought a pre-made unit to avoid wiring, haha! But yeah, if you want to totally DIY it, you will need bulbs, bases, ballasts, a degree in electronics, and possibly some clips to support the weight of the bulb, but wire will do in a pinch. As Researcher pointed out, they're not too hard to find pre-assembled.

Well, I'm SOL on the electronics degree, lol. All you wiring gurus could handle it but I think I'll go with the kit from ah supply. It's a perfect fit, remote ballast and the reflector is da bomb.

Thanks for all the info, fatigues. The reflector from ah supply is available separately so I'll do a cost comparison on building from scratch. If I can't break 50% cost I'll probably go with a kit from ah.

Thanks chaps. :santa1:

Nomination Rules:

You may not nominate yourself!!!!! :whip:

Any IC Mag member may nominate one photo per month per nominated member. In the case of multiple nominations being placed for the same member, ONE photo will be selected to vote on. Members are requested to limit their nominations per nominated member to one photo.

The subject of the photo must be cannabis - either growing, flowering, or harvested cola/bud(s). Also acceptable are photos of hash, in all forms.

Site Administrators of International Cannagraphic are ineligible; however, all Moderators remain eligible.

Nominations will only be accepted provided the photo belongs to a registered IC Mag member, is located in their ICM photo gallery, and is documented in a post by that nominated member on this site. While we all enjoy the eye candy, the intent of POTM is for recognizing our members. If someone wishes to nominate a member of another site, then that person would need to register here at IC Mag and display the pic in a thread and perhaps someone will nominate it.

The deadline for each month's entries is the last day of each month.
Up to 10 finalists are selected from all nominations made during the month in this thread and placed into a separate 'poll' thread in this forum where members may vote for their choice.

Once finalists are selected from this nomination thread, the 'poll thread' will remain open for 1 week, where members may vote once for their choice of POTM.

A monthly winner will be determined based on all votes received in the poll thread.

This thread is for Nominations only

Each monthly winner will receive a package of free seeds and their photo featured on the homepage of ICMag. So what are the free seeds the winner receives???? 1 seed pack containing a mixed selection of various breeder's seeds courtesy of Gypsy Nirvana! :woohoo:

So that others will know what is actually being nominated, please include the following information with any/all nominations you make:

Each nomination MUST include:
  • the name of (or type of) the variety being nominated
  • the member's name who contributed the original photo
  • a link to the original IC Mag thread that the pic is shown in
  • a copy of the photo URL using image tags

Good luck everyone!
Let's see some eye candy!

This thread is open for nominations and will stay open through midnight, December 31st, 2009, GMT.

In other words, there's no need to vote until they make a poll :) (but thanks boom hehe)
