220v box ELECTRIC BILL..$$$$

Anyone out there run a sun systems 220v box with 4 220v's and 2 110's. Just wandering what your electric bill runs. I got mine in...and it is UNBELIEVABLE. I was told that they use the same amount of electricity whether you run one light on them or four. I was also told it would run an additional 500-600 bucks a month to what im already paying. Any knowledge or opinions would be greatly appreciated.

Bosshog how can 1 fixture use the same amount of electricity as 4 fixtures?I'm notreally sure what you're asking though

3000 watts and a couple 20 inch box fans. a large exhaust fan and household a/c.

Skeletor: I thought it was a crock of shit when i heard it too...but a couple people have told me the same thing. They told me that box would pull the same amount of electricity whether only one light was plugged in or all four were used up. Seems strange to me.

Anyone have the same box???? Anyone running 3k??? let me know.

No No NO.
Look a kilowatt is a kilowatt,no matter how you slice it.
If you run a 1K HPS 24 hrs a day,you consume about 1.15 Kw/hr,no matter if you use 120v or 220/240v.
Here's The Bottom Line:
You save money on electricity DELIVEREY.
A 220v line costs 1/2 of what a 120v line does to deliever power to,that's where you save money.

For example:

1000w running at 120v =12 cents per KW hour for the POWER,and another
10 cents an hour for delievery of that power.
That = .22 cents/Kw hour

Now,

1000w running at 220v =12 cents per KW hour for the POWER,and another
five cents an hour for delievery of that power.
That = .17 cents/Kw hour

When you're running 12 or 24 hour cycles, those few cents add up to mucho dinero at bill time.
It doesn't reduce your power usage,it does decrease the 'power delievery charge' by 50%,and imo it's only worth it ONLY to run 2000w or,preferrably, more.
I've used Green Air's 220v timer with 3000w of HPS for years,it's a great piece of equipment,as long as you know how to hardwire into a box,or know somebody who does.
Don't fuck around with electricity if you're not proficient,I've seen people fly through the air and hit walls, fucking with power.
A kilowatt is always going to be used,per hour,by a 1KW light,there's no way around that-and btw,your ballast uses 100-200w/hour,as well.
All righty,I've said all there is to say..

All the Best!

3k bloom would run at most an extra 200 bux ands thats a real steep estimate!!
probly around 150 bux for ur light load.
what does ur utility bill say u r paying per kilowatt hour?
we need the OG power calculator LOL
BUZZ!

Rezdog: would $1300/month seem reasonable for 12/12 cycle with 3k watts and a couple accessories. This is in addition to SOME household a/c use. probly a couple hundred worth.

That's BS, any qualified electrician would tell u that! How much u pay for a kilowatt, check on your bill, suppose it's a dime for a kw for an hour, 3 lights for 12 hours; 3.60 a day roughly 100 bucks a month.

Okay, i guess my electric company is saying that last year at this time i used a little over 1000 megawatts and this year its up to almost 4000. theyre saying that after that 1000 i was getting charged double rate...what type of shit is that????because i increase my use i get screwed?? does anyone know if i start a new account(electric) somewhere else(another house or apt.) will i have a clean slate so to speak. and only be charged the base rate for whatever i use be it 100megawatts or 10,000??

well for starters u r usin kilowatt hours NOT "megawatts" only LARGE neighborhoods use that much juice!!

it is common for utilities to charge a standard rate for up to 1000 KW hrs , and then "up the ante" on ya!! but double!!!??? thats a bit steep.
my utility "ups the ante" 25% more than the standard rate. are u in cali???
those poor fucks "deregulated" and have been getting fucked (wholesale) ever since!!

how much are u being billed for a kilowatt hour up to 1000 then how much (doulble?) for over 1000 kw hrs??

i know i sould like an idiot but its a med grow and not my house. the owner called and told me the bill and a brief explanation. I tried to ask the details but they left the bill at work and wont have it until next week.I'll let you know, but for now i need to figure out what i can do in the future. i cant afford to provide medicine at those prices.

WOW! $1300 for 3k is vicious! I just got my elec bill and totaled up all the delivery and other charges, and it came to about 10 cents per KWH. Your 3 lights use 36KWH a day. Multiply that by 30 {monthly} and its something over 900KWH. Add on an estimate of 500KWH for a normal home, plus maybe 200KWH for fans, ventilation, air pumps, etc. 1600KWH a month is a lot to me

you are getting ripped off somewhere in there, either the elec co. or a piece of woefully inefficient hardware. I run 4000W flower and 1000w veg, with a 14K btu AC and my electric bill is a little more than half of yours.

BUT! Even if the electric bill were quadrupled, i don't see how you can't afford to provide meds at those prices--the electric is still a tiny fraction of the crop value, if you are dialed in.

You need to see the bill for yourself, and look around the house for power vampires.

why don't you take amp draws on all your equipment to make sure they're operating properly... it's simple to do...

the thing about electric is that all the different companies have different rates... so it's hard to say how yours compares to others..

.

Thankyou for finally clairifing that for me.. I was going to say , Power is power. The equation equals the same for any given load...I never understood how you could save money going to 220 setup. Now that finally makes sense to me..

i got 2.4kw of hps along w/ fans, a/c, dehumidifier and my bill NEVER goes over $300. with 2 people living here full time. my highest bill ever was last month at $299. then again the substation is 1 mile from my house, so i don't pay shit for delivery!!! remember, location is key ladies and gents!!!
