After the biggest pot bust on Texas record, Grand Prairie police say they are seeing a new trend, an increase in the demand for marijuana.

Over the weekend, police seized $5 million worth of marijuana on the Grand Prairie-Dallas city line. The DEA found more than 10,000 plants.

This is the texas bust a lil bit ago... I think these assholes are full of shit on the number of plants they are counting... 10,000... 20,000... Do you honestly think these lazy, scum of the universe swine can even count that high? Ego... Ego... Ego...

Just look at how sophisticated that is, man...gotta have a masters in engineering to even begin to know what they are doing. Seeds in the ground and stolen water is genius!! If only I could think of something so mind-boggling....

"came across a pump and some hose"

wow that sure is sophisticated...

Maybe the Police department should all have compulsary dope testing after that. Anyone that shows up positive loses their job, their first born and get flogged a thousand times each with those tall spindley man plants.

This is very close to home...my husband jokingly said we should head out there in a month or two and see if they missed anything!! What I can't quite figure is what they are exaggerating this time. Various news said $4 -10 million for 20-30,000 plants. That's $150-500 per plant. So either they didn't get the numbers they said, or for some reason they are way undervaluing the plants. Maybe because it's all leaf at this point? Doesn't make sense. Also stupid of them to grow in a nature preserve that is currently part of/adjacent to a huge (4000 acre) restoration project being monitored by Audubon, Army Corp of Engineers, US Fish & Wildlife, and several local organizations. For the last 2 years there's been people all over the area planning and carrying out restoration work while monitoring plants and wildlife. I'm surprised the plants got as big as they did before being discovered! This area has a lot of forest preserves. The one they picked would have been my last choice.

why are they running DNA tests on the pot?

To waste more tax money
This is, sadly, probably not far from the truth.

I doubt anything really useful can be determined by assessing a plant's DNA, but its a great way to spend tax money while looking like you're doing something useful to people who don't understand the industry. That gives them the opportunity to request more funding when the federal budget comes up for approval next year, which they can then proceed to use however they please while claiming it's for DNA testing plants.

There are other ways to scam the budget similar to this, and most federal agencies practice them. Sad, ain't it?

In the government budget world the motto is "Use It Or Lose It". It means that when a department is budgeted a certain amount for a fiscal year they MUST use all of it or they will NOT receive that much money the following year. And certainly no chance of a budget increase.
Ever notice that curbs get replaced in May when they are perfectly fine? How about adding a couple stop lights at intersections that clearly don't need them? That's the respective departments ways of burning up their budget before the end of the fiscal year so they dont get "short-changed" the next year.
