That was weak as shit.

Back to the topic at hand.

I am most worried about my guns being taken and extra charges along the lines of 'use of firearm when committing a felony'.

I only grow for personal stash, but if I did sell it I would probably use the side job/eBay thing.

I've also always saved my money, so when I do make big purchases now people don't question where I got the cash. I'd assume the same would hold true if i grew commercially. Just be careful, I guess.

Yeah, that jas dude is a big time asshole. He apparently thinks HE knows everything there is about computers, and likes to put people down because they are attempting to learn different things. Fuck him, i ignored him.

Anyway, I own a shotgun and a handgun with a concealed carry permit, i plan on getting rid of my shotgun and keep only my handgun, and what i would like to do is create some sort of "in plain sight" hiding spot in which, if ever raided, cops wouldnt find it...such as a piece of furniture, or what looks to be a part of a wall but in reality opens up, etc.

i've bullshitted my way into making my family think im getting into e-business....not necessarily ebay, but internet business...they dont question beyond that, really.

If you're using Linux you can setup each partition using luks encryption, it has more encryption options depending which ones you have compiled into your kernel. A normal user might have a hard time setting this up as it's more technical than TrueCrypt.

I think that encryption is a viable option (unless you are hiding something SERIOUS like a multi-million dollar money laundering operation at which point the NSA might step in or another high-level security agency) but in general, for most users, my idea of having all your 'questionable' data on an external hard drive is your best bet, with a cordless drill or hammer nearby at all times...you at least have a shot at literally destroying all traces of evidence and it would be hell for them to prove you 'destroyed evidence' unless they witnessed it.

i've also thought about having off-site storage options, IE...setup some sort of file-sharing network at a relatives' house and keep your questionable data on a hard drive at their location...when the SHTF just give word for them to destroy the hard drive and/or move it somewhere secure, and by the time authorities realized where the hard drive was, it would be gone..

they will scour your harddrive for evidence of a 'continuing criminal enterprise', if you have pics of years of producing green, it would behoove you to delete some of it, it could be the difference between going home and the long walk (to the end of the cell block).
anything of value they will confiscate and auction!
Get rid of the guns! its a felony to grow, another felony if you own a gun and grow.(or don't get rid of them, you're already in big trouble).

Well, I guess it all really depends...I hear the charge is "Possession of a firearm in the commission of a felony"....just for simple ownership i don't think that's a charge in itself...IE, if they bust you growing but find no weapons, you don't get a weapons charge. If they bust you AND find a weapon, then yes...additional charges will come.

Also, confiscation and the whole auction thing isn't a definite. There have been many cases in which only the plants/evidence was seized, the person subsequently charged and that's that...

Boot to USB. IF you are that concerned about your privacy, load a copy of windows XP onto a usb stick and boot from there. They are really easy to destroy or conceal in a pinch.

You could do the same with an external hard drive, although might take a bit more time to conceal or destroy, but it is a lot quicker than having to open your computer and pull out the drive.

If you did all that AND encrypted, you should be safer...

As for cover, well right now I just tell everyone my wife makes more than she really does since I am unemployed. I am finishing up college and don't really want to get a job while in school to justify my income. I was thinking maybe starting a small business or something. I am not sure what, I haven't done any real research into it yet. Maybe building custom computers or something. At least that I can bullshit my way through. I will have to do some reading to see if the effort involved around doing that is worth it, like faking sales and stuff around tax time.

the computer was one of my worries, so i just started keeping it clean
no storage of pictures, no storing of passwords, cookies, etc
they might be able to recover a few pics, but that seems like a small risk, at least in the local jurisdiction i live
why keep stuff on the computer at all? it's just a liability with no upside that i can see

To show off and make people on the internet jealous of my mad growing skill and make everyone want to be my E-friend!!!

I thought that was obvious?

/sarcasm

Seriously though, I keep a little database with plant info and times and schedules and shit. It just helps keep me organized. Pics are a risk.

There is information about a number of trials where the 5th amendment and passwords have come into play. They can not make you give it up. How about using a remote hard drive located in a secure place that you only access via proxy and all data is encrypted before sending? Maybe this is in another country? How about a hard drive that physically destroys itself when tampered with or on command?

Hi guys,

If you're super paranoid, do the hidden option in TruCrypt that has already been suggested.

Then instead of just storing files and logs and such store a virtual machine image in its place. The VM is a complete operating system in itself so you can run all your stuff there. It protects your main PC from all of the traces of programs like notepad, excel, image editors, browsers, the list is endless.

Just my .02,
OO
