I'm not a collector, but did purchase a Longines Spirit 37mm over the summer and have been wearing it pretty much every day since. As my first automatic, it checked all the boxes I was looking for in a watch.

Thanks, I missed this place. I stepped away from the internet just for a different pace in life. All is good though!

Yeah Longines is a Swiss brand with lots of heritage. A little pricey for me personally, but overall quite reasonable in the world of watches. A lotta bang for your buck imo.

Approvals would be nice, so the package could send mail to appropriate people, if you got in trouble.

I'm in the UK, where our national health service gains nothing from treating people. We might adopt these first. So we can call people that might be in trouble, and get to them before the progression of symptoms, becomes a huge bill for the tax payer.

Perhaps there is a private option, or phone a friend app feature?

I think I stopped looking for my watch, about 20 years after I took it off. I still have it though. View attachment 19104916
Stop laughing. I like it :) It's small, reliable, cheap and easy to read. And yes.. that is one watch. I bought a dark blue one, but in the light of day, it was lighter blue. Then one cold day, I was like.. what the fucking fuck, my watch has turned green. I sort confirmation, but nobody cared enough about my watch to know if it was once blue. Then an hour later... it's fucking blue again. WTF! at which point people were suddenly interested lol
It's been through a few straps, and is out as I'm thinking I might buy it another. Somehow it just isn't want it used to be though.
wait what? it changes colors?im drunk and confused. that looks like a beast.nice watch sir

Yeah, and I spent a while looking at them, choosing just the colour I wanted lol

Shop along the front of a cheap seaside town (skegvegas, looking toward the tower) for about $10 30 years ago.

You can promote it to go red I iirc, but not on your wrist.

You must be drink. I want what you are having :)
The brand seems to of moved on.

friend of mine is a master level watch repair guy; certified. yes, their is a ranking system for watch repair ppl. there are only 4/5 in a 4 state area around where I live.

he said that the counterfeit biz has gotten so good that it is now possible to make high quality counterfeit rolex's that can not be detected as counterfeit.

getting an older/vintage watch properly repaired nowadays is getting very difficult to do as there are no new up and coming watch craftsmen. thing of the past. he's almost 60 yrs. old and he's a dinosaur.

I don't think that a rolex denotes social status anymore personally.

if you like the aesthetics and most importantly, can get it properly maintained then go for the pleasure it brings you.

as an investment silver is the way to go; physical silver.

^ my 2cents.
Silver is a terrible investment. I speak from experience. It can be traded but has a lot of drag… they sell over spot and buy under spot. The ratio has only gotten worse. If it ever hits 40 or less again, then maybe. The stuff is too bulky. Maybe all these missiles being made to replace the ones they are shooting will increase demand.

My collection of Soviet era watches - there's a space in the first box that needs to be filled!

The range of wooden watches on aliexpress is getting better. I'm not sure I could wear BOBO BIRD as a brand, but uwood is a bit better. Typically Bamboo is used, but I have seen Maple and such. No Iron Wood, but least it's not Balsa.
Basic start price about 25us delivered, so when you get it wet and it splits, you won't mind too much. Some nice burls on some, and you needed spend much more to get functioning chronograph gauges, or date.

If you dare spend 150us on an Ali watch, the machining really looks quite good. No cast crown wheels at that price. Clean but not sharp corners. Hour markers that are well placed.

The fake market at 50uk is what it's always been, but the £100 fake is getting good, and the £200 fake is a really well made item. It won't be hand made from stock sheets, but machines are perfectly accurate anyway, nowadays.

But the wood.. kinda wants looking at. It might not be expensive, but remains interesting.
