1st grow in Foxfarm soil

Ok just curious how many growers have used this medium? So far 3/4 weeks in I am having issues with nutrient burn and I’ve flushed the soil two full flushes and these babies are still showing some issues. Using a Marshydrow TS600 for starting and growth. Just bought a small tent as my new location my 5x5 tent is just two big , so I bought a 2.5 x 2.5 just to grow 2 or 3 plants. I haven decided to grow either straight with topping or do the screen of green where you have the plants grow more horizontal. Not sure what would be best. But my biggest issue is the burn right now. I just transferred one of the plants from 3 gallon bag to its 5 gallon bag and transplanted into Foxfarm Ocean Forrest hopping that will calm the nitrogen down a bit. Hoping maybe some of you experienced experts can throw a few pointer. when I first tested the runoff it was over 2000 ppm, then flushed down to 1300 now it’s like 800 the ph has been around 6 so I figured that’s ok. I’m just not sure if I should mix up so nutrieNFT’s with the spring water I’ve been feeding with right now. I figured this soil was supposed to have all the nutrients I would need for the first few weeks. Anyways if anyone can help I’m all ears. Here’s some pics:

With FFOF you dont need anything for at least the first 30 days as its already packed with Gauno, worm casting etc. Resist the Temptation to feed it

Ok that’s what I thought, I was just worried about the leaf tips getting that slight burnt look as they were getting too much nitrogen. I just try to do as much reading as I could find and for some reason I didn’t hear of any issues with FF products until just recently I read about people having same issue with the Happy Frog burning their plants. So I did the flushing hoping that would calm them down a bit and they still looked slightly burnt. So I took the biggest plant and transplanted into the 5gal grow bag w/Ocean Forest soil with the original Happy Frog she started in the 3 gal grow bag. I have one more larger girl that I’m going to transplant exactly like the 1st plant, then put the two in my grow tent. Give them a few more weeks see how they do in the tent as of right now they are just out in the open.

Once you dial it in im sure u be fine. I grew Nirvana NL Autos(those crazy things) 4 times in FFOF. The first time I burned the fuck out of my plants using Miricle grow liquid. That wasnt so much MG fault as me feeding them to early. Then the second I just didnt feed them for 30days and switch up to a bloom formula made for flowers. I think it was a Schultz product. Those 3 grows went off pretty good with minor problems.

Thanks MNGrow for your reply. I actually did a lot of reading or at least I thought I did and read good things about Foxfarm soil. I read start them in Happy Frog then transplant into Ocean Forrest. So I figured it was going to be much easier then all the setting up of hydroponics like I did man many years ago. I was trying to find the easiest and best soil without completely breaking the bank. Well plants started off just fine, I just started worrying when I saw the tips of the leaves burning a touch. So I started googling about that topic. Then all I found were articles or posts saying how FFHF were burning peoples plants, that you need to flush the soil. So I did that several times and it’s still showing burnt tips , not crazy like but burning ever so slightly. So I figured let me transplant one into their final home a 5 gal. grow bag. Flushed that a few days later and run off readings were still high but not near the original #’s. So I’m hoping time will take care of the rest. The only other issue I had were those dirt gnats. So I picked up some Neem oil and it took care of those few pests almost instantly. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that it just keeps getting better each day.

Your irrigation schedule will determine this. Fertilizer should only be used when necessary by plants; after that, it is a waste. I just fertilized once a week, and neither growth nor flowering ever presented problems. Once a week, water and fertilize, and if needed, top-off the needs of particular plants.

We’ll finally got the girls in the tent with filter have temp running at 72° and humidity at 68%. I’m still getting a little burn on tips but both girls are now in 5gal grow bags only have given water since they are in FF Ocean Forrest soil. It’s been a week and they seem to be adjusting well. Now they’re approaching 8 weeks old. Curious how many more weeks before I change light schedule as hoping they only get another 6” higher so as not to run out of ceiling height with tent as it’s only 6’ tall. I’ll take a few pics tomorrow.

Any tips or advice I’m all ears.

Can anyone explain what this may be? It’s only on 1 leaf I checked the plants and see no other flaws anywhere I even cut off one other fan leaf to see if I could find any bugs or anything that looks like an issue. The only problem I’ve had is fan leaves having burnt tips like too much nitrogen, and that’s what led to the Foxfarm soil issues.

1st two pics are of no issues and 2nd two pics are of the one leaf that looked like something either was eating it or some malfunction that I can’t find. I inspected the rest of the plants and don’t see any signs of any critters. Any help appreciated!!! Thanks, Tim

Well so far they haven’t died and no bugs, seems my biggest problem is leave tips getting a little burnt I’ve flushed numerous times but seem like to no avail. But now my issue is looks like I’m going to have to remove a couple plants and give to a friend who has property where we can transplant them outdoors. I’m not sure what kind of fans / filters and such you all use. But originally I only had my 6” exhaust fan and filter and they’re just too freaking big for a 2.5’ x 2.5’ x 6’ tent. So I went and bought a 4” AC Infinity Cloudline pro t4. Picked up a 4” filter so I could hand these straight lined with no flex duct to see if this would maybe work a bit better than the oversized unit from my bigger tent. So my question to anyone who can can give me a little guidance on this smaller unit. Do you all pay attention to the VPD # and how important is this #. I took a few pics so maybe you guys can let me know how I’m doing and what I should or shouldn’t do. I have been trying to find as much info as I can on my own not to bother everyone here since I’m a newbie and newbies seem to be a pain in the ass not doing their own research. Any who the girls have been in flower for a week. I’m still just using just spring water no added anything. They‘re in FF Ocean Forest soil. I have several nutrients for flower stage and I’ll list them to see what you all think are the best for this newbie. What I’ve read is not to use any nutes until at least 2/3 weeks into flower. Well not sure which one to use but I’ll asdf pics of what the plants look like, the numbers I have with this New AC Infinity air/ humidity system. Was reading my VPD # should be between 1.0 - 1.5. Well I can change this number by just moving the prob around in different spots in the tent. So I’m wondering if anyone else uses this and where do they put their prob? As always I appreciate all help I get as I’m really trying to do this right.

I should have mentioned this too, I’m having a real hard time to keep temps up while making sure it’s not too humid. Right now I got it at the best I‘ve had the numbers. Yesterday the numbers were 75 temp 70 humidity and 0.7 vpd . Today day after messing around a bit my last reading is 76 T, 66 H and 1.04 vpd. Not sure if my reading or info I have read is correct but in flower they are saying I should have 80 T 50 H and 1.3 vpd. I don’t think I’ll ever get 50 % humidity

Hey guys I’m trying to get some advise on LST or bending branches so I can get more light to these girls. I’m starting to think for my size tent I should have gone into flower a couple weeks earlier as now I’m starting to run out of room/hight. I’ll post pics later as right now they are still sleeping. I have a trellis net coming today and some 4”duct so I can re-arrange my exhaust fan to give me another foot of height. Its my first grow in over 30 years and I’m learning that I didn’t plan this out properly. I should know better being a foreman for a plumbing company for over 30 years that without a plan and play as you go makes for a lot of wasted time and money. So my two questions are can i still bend these plants in 2nd week of flower and putting the trellis insta this time may be quite difficult. My other question is nutrient. I have a few different nutrients and the one I was about to use is bloom booster from Blue Planet 2/4/10. And I measured that out wrong already thinking I’d add 15ml to 1 gal but in reality it said .5ml not 5ml per lite. I’m ok so far as I didn’t add to soil so no harm no foul. I‘m wondering for you growers who use Foxfarm soil what nutrients do you add for flower stage? I have a few different supposed bloom/ flower nutrients but none seem to be high enough or doesn’t have phosphorus at all In their brand. Here’s the few that I have that I bought when I thought I was going to go hydro. Do you recommend any of these or do you have something better to go with FF soil.

Here’s some pics of where I’m at right now. I’m having some issues with humidity, so I bought a dehumidifier hoping that will get down to 50% or less and that happened maybe once or twice. Not sure if anyone else has used ACInfinity wick watering system. But I’m trying it out and wondering is that the cause of all the humidity? The how these 1 1/2 gallon reservoirs that give the plant water from bottom up so not to have to worry so much about bugs with soul on top being so wet. At least that’s the theory I believe. Can anyone help me here as it seems now when I used my bigger basement dehumidifier to just get moisture out in general this 2/3 gallon res fills up in no time and my plants need more water. Not sure if I’m just pulling the water from the plants WIC system ? Can someone please give me some advice? Am I not posting correctly or in correct thread as no one has even posted on anything in here since early July. I apologize if I’ve done something wrong it definitely wasn’t my intention. Some pics to follow.

Hello everyone can anyone help me diagnose why my leaves are so fucked up. I’ve tried everything I could think of , I’ve flushed everything checked ph all is good started nutrients very minimal ( using Jacks Blossom Booster, I’m having a hard time with humidity level not real able to keep it in 50% range, was hoping to get it around 40% but be happy if I could just get it to stay around 50%. Right now it always high 50’s. I have the light around 16-18” above as it was around 12” and I thought that was the reason for the burning or yellowing. And the buds with the real white buds although they seem to be getting darker now. Any help would be appreciated. Should I have posted this as a grow diary or a new topic to get any responses? It doesn’t seem like I get any responses anymore. I hope I didn’t break any rules? please help.
thanks, tim

Too much nutes. A good practice that i adopted early on is to use only half the dose recommended on the bottle, even the organic lines, and adjust from there depending on response. Ocean Forest is some full throttle soil. Ive grown strains with it barely adding anything at all during flower
