Similar to what Chillb says, and btw great username!

I also will be getting restarted with this hobby soon. Doubling my power from my last grow and moving from a 70w hps to a new 150w hps – cant wait! Constructing a totally new space to grow – moved and starting fresh. 2 different options to work with – will post pictures for options soon -

Thinking about getting this fan again: Soler & Palau TD-100 In-line Exhaust Fan
And hooking it up to a trusted filter: Phresh Filter 4" X 8" 150 CFM (701000)

Check out the strains im running for my re-entry and give me your suggestions!!!

Hey All, just wanted to pop in and say that we have here an amazing comunity of experts that share a wealth of knowledge for free every year. People like me who are reserved with sharing this hobby with friends due to security concerns rely on reading first hand documentation here constantly.
/ :thanks:

About a month ago i purchased Universal Lighting Technologies S150MLTLC3M-500K High Pressure Magnetic Ballast and now i need to decide on a Medium or Mogul base and purchase a bulb

What does everyone recommend as the best 150w Bulb?
Few top purchased 150 watter's from Amazon... Thoughts?
-Hortilux Ultra Ace Conversion MH-to-HPS Bulb 150W
-Ultra Sun 150 Watt HPS Lamp High Pressure Sodium Grow Light
-Only AgroMax 150W HPS Bulb I could find!
-Philips 150W C150S55/M S55 HPS Light Bulb Medium Base 303479

Thanks unthing and webecat! - The important question is whether to go mogul or medium base. Do people have a preference? Its just a 150w ballast so its not like i can upgrade the bulb with it.

Does anyone have any first hand knowledge recommendation for a quality 150w with some blue?

hey budelight i use a mogle base and for no special reason the lamp had it stock when i bought it .but the medium base bulb apeared smaller to me but its rated the same lumien output so i guess it doesnt matter .

I'm not exactly sure about any difference, but can say I had a medium base outlet first but screwed up and ordered a mogul base bulb. The mogul base size is smaller. DUH!

I have since changed to a mogul outlet because I had 3 mogul bulbs anyway, but haven't noticed any difference. My theory is the mogul base puts less stress on the ballast. I have absolutely no proof of that though.

Shit, maybe I got that backwards, anyway I use the smaller one now.

Mogul base is the bigger of the two, medium base being smaller than mogul.

Mogul base is the standard socket used on larger HPS/MH lights.

I dont think it really matters which one you use for a 150w. I use a mogul base in my tent.

There really is ZERO difference between the two sizes as far as performance goes. Voltage, current draw, heat dissipation, and light output are all the same. The reason the base comes in two different sizes can be traced back to a point even before the original introduction of HID (High Intensity Discharge) lighting many years ago.

In the 1930’s standard light bulbs were not as well made as they are today, most failed due to excessive heat build-up. To prevent this from happening, manufacturers introduced the larger Mogul base. The larger size offered better electrical connectivity, more air space, and a larger metal surface, all aimed at greater heat dissipation. They were typically used in industrial and home fixtures that had bulbs in excess of 150 watts. But during the late 1940’s & 1950’s light bulb manufacturing improved both in the methods and materials used. As a result the industry settled on using the less costly and easier packaged “standard base”.

Now we fast forward a few years to the introduction of HID lighting. The manufacturers were concerned that some uneducated (dumb) consumer would try to screw a standard light bulb into their new HID lighting system and either destroy the ballast or pop the bulb & fry their fingers. So, instead of inventing a whole new socket, they decided to use the recently defunct Mogul base and thereby save all of the design and manufacturing start-up costs. Small base = standard & Large base = HID.

Ballasts quickly improved, and as with most things, manufacturing costs always win out. Soon enough the industry was using the standard base for lower wattage HID lighting systems just to save a few pennies.

Mogul to standard base adapters are available at just about any lighting store for just a couple of bucks. If you are building a new 150wHPS system use a Mogul base and pick up an adapter. That way you can always use either bulb when you fine them on sale for a great price. While it’s not obvious to the human eye, HID lights lose their brightness fairly quickly and should be changed often when using them for growing.
