jpizle, if the original plants hermies from some stress, then that is better than them just doing it without any. It may well be that they pass the trait on so the progeny will carry it in a similar fashion, and a large majority of them will also need some stress to show hermie. There may well be a few that hermie real easy, and some that don't hermie no matter what...but that can happen with most all breedings.

People have been doing what you have for years and years. Grow on and enjoy.

Hi guys. I moved my girl under HPS and it filled the screen at about 75%. I think its time to switch to 12/12. As you can see its very dense and compact. Should I start trimming all that small grow under the canopy and keep only the main budsites?

Which factors influence bushy vs stretchy grow?

new T8s + fresh trim + new bulb

new T8s + fresh trim + new bulb

Just did:
so.. my bulb blew. Made run to HD.
Pulled girls out and discovered major light issues.
Tops were turning YELLOW. too far out of the light.
panic..

Went back to HD and picked up two 18" flous (15 watt 3k).
remote ballast, removed sockets from fixture and screwed into top of cabinet.

Given this is the first trim, little worried about over trimming. But I trimmed a ton anyway! 50% of canopy leaves were trimmed. I left outside leaves alone. Happy with results.

Next Step:
Still not happy with the light spread. But tops are no longer yellow. Most likely raise the HPS another 2 inches.

Future:
FYI this grow is NOT going as planned. adapt and overcome.
My expectations of outrageous yield are dropping.
Next time, no waiting for the runt and better branch managment is necessary. AND NO revegs! IMHO total waste. Too much time is wasted on recovery. Almost killed the reveg to spread the Kush out some more. But I hate killing plants! lol.

how it all started....

I also have a question for you, I'm looking for some original skunk. I'm bored smoking strong strains it's no pleasure for me if I can't smoke whole joint.

what can you recommend?

what do you think about skunk #1 from dutch passion or original skunk from seedsman?

and sorry for my english i've learned it by myself so forgive!!!!!!!!:ying:

SKunk can be a bit racy, and some phenos very strong...although it seems tolerance build up is fast.

I would suggest you try Orange Bud or perhaps a nice BubbleGum. Even the most powerful of BG phenos tend to be very euphoric and pleasing.

J23 I would flip them to 12\12. Give them a week of streching then trim off everything below the screen. I grew almost 1.5 lbs off one plant growing Scrog. If you bow the screen a few inches on each end you will get a 1/4 or so more bud. It just gives you more surface area of screen. Looks like you have it filled to about 75% thats when I would flip them. Hope some of this helps.

Which factors influence bushy vs stretchy grow?

Trimming the top will encourage bushing. Trimming the bottom will encourage top growth. Strain is what most determines inter-nodal stretch. Even lanky sativas stretch much less when stressed underneath a scrog trellis.

Bushes are hard to scrog. Close nodes break easier than lanky stems. IMO, you're gonna have a tough time filling and flattening the screen from below. Pinning those dominant branches under the screen will encourage all the inner growth and you'll have a mess.

Since you already have the benefit of close nodes, allowing the major tops to grow through the screen will make for some honkin' colas. You could use pipe cleaners to tie them down and space them apart from each other.

As far as defoliating, don't worry about shading because it's one plant. Plants shading each other is what discourages photosynthesis.

That said, trimming will help air circulation. Getting rid of anything that won't produce will theoretically fatten what's left. But timing is critical, especially when you trim in flower. You're working with the clock and trimming stalls recovery and growth. When possible, trim before the bud tip sets. If you need more air circulation, start culling. Otherwise you'll have spongy buds.

If you decide to scrog this strain again, spread trimming over a longer period of time. Trimming in veg might be better, you'll have less stress when the plant is trying to flower.

Here's a lanky sativa that started the close node crap at the colas. I just let them do what they wanted, side growth was too short to thread. They're just tied to the top of the screen so they can't grow vertically. I was still able to mash the lamp down close to the plant.

Thanx Disco. I trimmed some growth under the canopy... and broke 2 budsites trying to pull 'em down under the screen :-( I flipped to 12/12 yesterday so I guess I'll try to eliminate all new grow under the screen but will not go too crazy as it looks like air circulation is OK. I will try to find some more info on what and when to trim but I guess most of it is going to be hands-on experience with all the newbie mistakes... All budsites are placed where I want them to be and 2-3 more are still below the screen but as I read here stretch should do the rest. With all that being said I'm happy with my achievements so far. Cant wait for the final results!
Thanks!

htgsupply.com has a remote setup for ~$70. Depending on your foot print, I'd get one w/o the reflector and hang the bare bulb vertical.

e-conolight.com has security floods for ~$52.00. There are remote setup tutorials in the Growroom designs and equipment forum. You might need a reflector if growing horizontal. Otherwise, go with vertical and you won't need a reflector.

There are several combos that approach the $100 range. The rectangular ones might be too long and tough to vent in a small cab. The square hood with the piggy back ballast would be easier to fit but they're not air cooled. Even if you buy the duct flanges, the hood reflector will block almost all the air flow. Best wishes with your selection.

Did a bunch of research on magnetic ballast manufacturers.

Found Howard ballasts (4 posts) to be best value/qualitity. (thats what i will buy in future)
hear Advance is good but expensive.
Other brands may have qualitity issues but they will work. Just a trade off.

Currently rocking old school megateck. think it 20 years old.

How often do people change their ballasts?

150 lamps are a bit more forgiving than the larger lamps when it comes to electrical issues, and they seem to fire even when things aren't totally optimal.
Yes some mag ballasts are cheaper than others...say compare a Sola ballast to an Advance and there may be a few buck difference in what appears to be the same animal.
But if you look into things, it is probably due to the fact that Advance may well be putting a better ignitor in the ballast. Most cheap ignitors of that size are rated to be placed between 2' and 5' from the core of the ballast to the lamp. People will often have more cord than that leading to the lamp.
The Advance ballast may well have an ignitor that is rated at 15' or more.

Now, do we cheap out and buy the one with a small lead rating, or do we spend an extra $12 to get the proper equipment? The cheap one may well work, but for how long?

Hey, Acro. You been laying low or did you get a bigger gig?
Actually just took a break from growing for awhile as I have jar after jar of indoor and outdoor buds sitting here.

Been rehearsing and tracking drums for a studio project lately.

I got peppers and tomatoes growing under 150 right now until transplant outdoors.

Prob germ some BOG beans 1st of April and get it started back up again.

Sounds like you've got everything managed well. I wish I'd grow a pair and do the outdoor thing. I'm in pot country and juvenile rippers abound.

I like music myself. My problem is I attempt to play more instruments than I manage to excel, lol. Electronic drums are over my head, kits are too expensive and drummers too rare in these parts. Everybody plays the ferkin' guitar.

What genre?

BOG sounds good. Baba Ku's sour bub always looks wicked. The stuff I'm growing now has hollow stalks. First I ever grew with hollow stems. I don't think they'd like heavy wind or rain, lol. Lots of BOG stuff looks like it would handle od no prob. Only problem would be consistent rain on heavy, dense buds.
