Im surprised on how well a 150wHPS is doing.

Yesterday was 3 weeks into my 12/12 and I too am surprised on how well a 150wHPS is doing

I am interested in seeing your pictures and comparing them to mine next weekend.

Interesting, I as well am 4 weeks into flower. I'll get some pics later today when the light switches on. I'm really, really happy with the 150wHPS.

I just hit 6 weeks yesterday.
Though I pulled about 7 grams of undergrowth that wont make it to the light, at day 40 flower...
This strain is finishing soooo fast, the day 40 weed, even after only drying for 48 hours, is super fucking potent!

I can't wait to let my 56 day strain go for 9 weeks: 63 days!

This pictures was taken Two days before I harvested 7 grams of under-growth, so day 38 flower.

Mind you, these buds are so dense, that some of the "bracks" feel like they are impregnated with seeds! But when you dig your fignernail into them, apparently it's just super dense, super heavy, super thick flowers!

Wheres Suga been? I wana show him his grandaughter!!
How strange that this girls' parents were finishers at day 133 and day 90 respectively. How do they screw, and make this girl, who finishes in exactly 8 weeks.

Hi Guys,

Here's a NL from Female Seeds. Day 63, but still needs to amber a bit.

A couple of new scrog pots. 2 1/2 quart containers - probably as small as I could go.

Look'in good everyone!

Cheers

Hello fellow 150w enthusiasts!

Here's how my girls are looking half way through flower:

Unfortunitally, the Masterkush strain isn't desirable at all for indoor growing. They stretch a lot, some of the nodes have up to 4 inches between them. Hopefully the smoke will be worth it.

Two 150's?

Two 150's?

Hi folks.

I bought a 150 security light (thanks for the guide IC) and it seems ok. I was wondering if putting in another 150 would be worth it? Aside from light distribution, will my buds get any bigger?

I'm using a small cab, about 18 x 22 inchs. I think I'm getting the 50 watts/ft goal now.

Lemme know what ya think. thanks.

Looking good, growD!
It can be a pain, in more ways than one, but I would suggest trimming out all the stuff at the bottom of the plants. If it looks like spindly popcorn, that is what it will stay, as the 150 just can't penetrate too far into the canopy. taking them off will net you a much larger yield in the end, allowing precious energy to be spent on the real buds that the light is working on.

I will trim the under growth.

This last weekend I started by trimming the smaller one. I plan to trim the larger two ASAP.

thanks!

one more thing
Should I trim the large fan leaves in the upper part?

I trim the undergrowth aswell, but I wait until about 3-2 weeks prior to harvest.

This does many things:

First of all, the buds that won't fully develop were never destined to. At two weeks 'till harvest, the lower bud growth should have a decent, if not near- optimal potency. You may also get a little more THC than cannabinoids!

Second, it helps the plant to focus its' growth on the buds that WILL develop fully. So the plant will re-direct its energy where it's needed most

Third, about this time, taking the undergrowth might tell the plant "Hey, it's a good Idea that we start finishing up now". The same exact theory behind a 48 hour dark period. It forces the plant to stress out and pump every last bit of energy into ripening. However, since we are only taking avery small amount of undergrowth, it won't shock the plant at all. If anything, it's a gentle reminder, telling her to hurry up!

Fourth, It gives you a better Idea of how your plants THC content and cannabinoid content is different beteen 2 weeks till harvest, and optimal harvest. Also, at two weeks till harvest, you might wana sample it already!

Last, The plants should do okay, even with that much foliage, as long as you keep them healthy and fed! Sometimes my stativas looked like yours, fully overgrown and all crazy. But eventually they will start filling out, the bottom leaves will yellow, the buds will thicken and you will clearly be ablse to see which branches you wana cut, or leave. Just make sure they don't grow into the light and you should be okay if you wait a little to trim and get something more to smoke.

As for removing fan leaves at the very top, DON'T. Unless they are retardedly blocking everything with no where to go. Just tuck them under as best as possible and twist tie them down if neccessary.
Large fan leaves are the plant's "power house". Majority of the plants energy is produced through Photosynthesis inside of large fan leaves. So just tie them. It hurts the plant more than people realize to get rid of too many. It can be counter productive unless you have good exprience with growing plants, and mainly your particular strain and how well it adapts. thats why I say just let 'em be.

The bottom fan leaves will eventually die on thier own before the plant ripens. Just leave em, and gently remove the nearly dead ones. You can tell which ones to remove by applying a gentle tug on the leaf's stem. Sometimes an ugly, yellow leaf with some green will really want to stay with the plant. The plant is telling you it is not ready to give up that leaf yet. But if the leaf falls off with a gentle tug, then you actually doing your plant a favor. The thing is, even yellow leaves with some green do hold value to the plant!! The plant still uses the near-dying leaves as large energy "reserves" and the plant will try to use it all before letting the leaf die and fall to the ground. Not only that, but before a plant shed's any leaf, it will re-direct certain cells to the area in preparation for the leaf to fall and die. This way the plant is ready to start forming a "leaf scar", basically a rough callused area of protection.
(I took a college course on Horticultre and aced it)

Try to space out the buds at the top, and let any undergrowth that is boarderline between the canopy and bottom growth the opportunity to make it to the top.

Then at about three or two weeks 'till harvest you'll see the distinction you need, so you can make the correct decision on what to cut, and leave, while not wasting any of it, because by this time it is smokeable!

It dosen't hurt really to just let your plant go and let them do thier thing naturally. Infact, I belive that is best. Next time around you could try getting them closer to the light by tying them down and putting some props (like large old books) under the pots. Then tying the branches to redirect growth. But for this grow, just make sure they don't grow into the light, try mentally invision a full, thick, flat cannopy. Let all those colas along the canopy be in direct light, and just let her be until a few weeks 'till chop.

Sorry my grammer sucks, I'm too lazy to speel check ;)

welcome aboard, B.C. ...

a single 150hps will light up that little cabinet quite nicely. adding an extra 150 would likely increase your yield somewhat BUT ... you will have a lot of heat to deal with. i am guessing that you are a first-time indoor grower so my thinking is that you should just go with the single light for now, because even just one 150hps in a small box generates a good deal of heat. my first attempt at ventilating a bigger cab. than your produced temps of 100F. not to worry though, a decent fan and adequate intake will cool it right down.

happy growing !

Became a member of the 150w HPS club thanks in part to this thread.

Box has 12 x 40w CFL + 1 x 150w HPS.

MRN Dreamtime seedpack should be here soon... looking foward to the results for sure.

Hey everyone been a while since i've posted but I've got a problem. Due to some security issues i had to take down my setup for about a week or so. I've just put it all back together but my HPS won't fire. The ballast buzzes, but the light won't turn on. Changed bulbs and nada. I have an econolight that i remoted and it worked fine for 8 months until now. Anyone have any advice?

Thanks - Phr3

Here's the exact one:

Mwahahahaha! I've even got people on this website loving e-conolight, Mwahahahaha!

That being said, phr3d, you probably pulled a wire or knocked something loose while you were taking it down. Unplug the unit, check all wire connections, and see if you can find something loose. Otherwise, your ballast may have burnt out.
