KUHR-SWWWIISHhhhh... (that's a flushing sound) - Part II

KUHR-SWWWIISHhhhh... (that's a flushing sound) - Part II

The flowering side of the cabinet is just looking lovely. Let's start with Sprout at day 12 in flower:

Plenty of bud-sites. I took some pictures of her height but they were among the ones that didn't make it. Some of the sites are almost up to the lamp already; quite a stretch for the little girl. You can see she's already starting to develop nicely:

On to the star of the show, Dorothy. She began her 2-week flush yesterday. I plan to take her at day 60 in flower and she's at day 47 today. So, should be harvesting Dec. 1st. The trichs are already almost completely cloudy with a clear one here and there. I figure 2 more weeks and there oughta be a couple of amber ones starting to show which is just about right in my book. I'm flushing with black strap molasses and water.

On with the show:

Here's a top view so you can see how the bud-sites have frosted out:

There's even frost growing in some of the middles of the fan-leaves, where the petioles connect to the leaf, quite a few inches from the actual bud-sites. The smell is growing more complex by the day. The cat-piss is starting to develop a bit of a rotten fruit smell with a deep, earthy tone.

But enough talk, let's see some frost:

Jim, can I get a close-up of the snow on that field? Yes you can:

The buds have really started to fill out:

I'm really proud, and frankly, amazed, at how big the sites have gotten and how covered with frost they are under such low wattage. I am also very pleased with the auxiliary bud-sites, they are going to be quite large and tasty:

And now, I present to you...

EXTREME CLOSE-UP!

(it helps if you do your best Wayne or Garth impression here)

WUUUUU...

...UUUUU...

...UUAAAAOOW:

So, assuming the trichs continue their path of maturity and the harvest time is similar to my previous run with this strain, I should be harvesting in just under two weeks. If the trichs don't look ready by then, I'll wait another few days if necessary.

1 week of dry time.

Just in time for the holidays... :joint:

One last look:

Hasta luego.

Wow Quazi, great work with everything! The tutorials are fantastic, you must be a teacher I'm guessing. Ill definitely be copying some of your ideas when I start building again soon.

Great work, see you around

Very nice job!! I have been doing my thing in a tall dresser, but yesterday a friend gave me a cabinet almost like yours and after spending a hour reading about your setup if you dont mind I would like to copy except for the mums room I already have t8 floros so I would probably use them and move the ballast to the elect room with the blower tp keep the heat down..Thanks for spending the time on the write up!!

sneakinman13: better late than never! Pull up a seat, you're just in time to see the last update before harvest (assuming the plant matures according to plan).

K.J: thanks! Sometimes I can't believe it's just a 150 myself.

jasonk: ha! You aren't the first to assume I was a teacher. Thanks for stopping by! Glad you enjoy!

Boondocks: hey man! Glad to know I could inspire you. When I make modifications to the cabinet, I will probably horizontally mount my CFLs and adjust the veg chamber. Before I had adequate ventilation and the cooling fan, I was battling temps. Now it's fine in there all the time. Should go well with your setup. Make sure to take plenty of pics!

Well, things are going great.

The new soil mix is awesome. The plants have made excellent advances since the transport into the new pots/mix.

In addition, Dorothy has amazingly sweet smells developing since starting the flush.

Can't wait to share pics on Tuesday!

Until later...

Hey Quazi,

I don't know if you remember me, but you chimed in on my thread a while back. Just wanted to say thanks for the vanity fixture idea (I built one with a 3 bulb fixture from Lowe's for $12 bucks - works great!) Also wanted to say great job! Your plants look awesome healthy - I hope I have just a shred of your success! CK

CaptainKirk: remember you? I still keep an eye on your thread brother! I saw the pics you posted. Glad to know the advice worked for you man! You should have plenty of success.

If I can do it, then others should be able to as well. If not? Well then: I'm not explaining things well enough.

By the way: the two Afgooeys were given names last night: Sierra and Sequoia.

You'll get to see more of them on Tuesday.

By the way, everything is on track with Dorothy. At lights on today, I took out the scope and checked the trichomes. Discovered 1 or 2 amber ones in my inspection. Most of the pistils have lost their volume and are starting to orange up and dry up on the tips.

The buds? They looks like someone sprayed wet sugar-water on them and let them dry. They sparkle from many angles. They smell of cat-piss by initial inspection. The smell of them with a squeeze, or a whiff of the fingers after handling reveals an over-whelming grape candy flavor. It is like someone shoved a grape Jolly Rancher up your nose and twisted. There is the hint of spice that seems remnant of the Kushy genetics.

Dorothy started her "bud-spurt" a day or so after my last update. Since then, the colas have increased vertically up and down the stem by about 20% on either side. In addition, the buds have fattened up by a good 20-30%. It looks like the bud-spurt lasted about 3-4 days with her. She finished with the spurt about yesterday or so. That gives her just over a week to finish up.

If she's gonna purple, I hope it happens soon. Though: I don't have high hopes for it at this point. She's sure gonna taste like purple though.

8 days...

Well everyone,

The pics are uploaded. The bowl is packed. So let's get this Thanksgiving update finished, huh?

We'll start, as always, with the veg side of things:

I love CFLs. So great that with a little bit of air-flow, you can get them right next to the plants:

We'll start with little Regina the Bubba Kush clone:

Plenty of new growth since last time. Looks like she's finally starting to take.

Next, we'll move to the Afgooey clones. I got a really cool picture of a leaf that is actually healing. It was quite yellow, but since the transplant has regained color and turgidity:

Anyway, here's another shot of Sequoia:

As you can see, the Afgooey has started training. Speaking of training...

The OGK/TW has been undergoing some vigorous training. Quelthala has quite the stem on her:

You can see, that the training has allowed for many more bud-sites to form (I highlighted them):

Some of the newer apical tips are getting up closer to the light and loving it:

In addition, Quelthala is displaying a unique characteristic on some of her leaves. She's forming many mutl-fingered leaves at this point. Including a 13-fingered monster. However, two of the fingers are growing backwards and vertically from the leaf where the petiole attaches:

Here's another shot of a 15-fingered leaf with the same characteristic:

Weird... anyway. Love the inter-nodal spacing on this strain. I'm thinking it will be very nice for a SOG style.

Last, but not least, on the veg side, we've got the pair of Purple Kush clones that are thriving happily in their trashcan pot:

Lots of bud-sites with these two:

Those will be heading into flower on Monday following the harvest. Which brings us to part II.

Part II continues below...

On to the flowering side of the cabinet:

First, we'll start with Sprout:

As you can see, she's developing some nice bud-sites. Check out the trunk on this little girl now:

Awesome huh? Since she was quite mature, she knew how to throw some sites for colas too. Check this out:

She's gonna be a great smoke.

Now, for her final debut before the chop, I bring you: Dorothy!

She's just looking more and more wonderful every time I look at her. You can see that the bud-sites have fattened up and frosted considerably:

The buds on her? Just gorgeous:

Another beauty:

Even the auxiliary buds developed to wonderful sizes and just got covered with frost:

Here's a close-up:

Here's a three-part close-up for ya:

Absolutely amazing bud and frost development for only 150W:

Well folks, this is the last update where Dorothy survives all the way through. Next time, you'll get to see the harvest. Maybe a shot or two of her just before she goes under the clippers.

One last shot before we go:

6 days...

Quazi congrats on the comeback (the plant). Mad props on the setup. It seems to be real efficiant. I was skeptical at first when I saw your schematic design but it has truly turned out to maximize the usage of a 150. Happy Thanksgiving!

Just read through your whole thread Quazi. Your plants are looking amazing and the buds look so good. I just got myself the same vapor tight 150w from econo and just got it setup the other day yay! :jump:
I hope i can grow some nice big buds like that with my 150!!!
Keep up the good work.
You should stop by my grow sometime if you get the chance.
