Quazi. You really dont get enough credit. I mean your threads are a joy to read I read from start to finish but on top of that you take time to do DIY for anything with difficulty. You are truly a unique individual and its because of people like you that I keep coming back to this site. Keep it up my man!!!

moses224: thanks again man! I'm just tryin' hard like everyone else. Especially trying to give back to the community that has allowed me to do what I do.

Thanks also to everyone who's given me ++rep.

Well everyone, I decided to take a break from the stresses of election night and take some pictures and write an update. The pictures are finished and uploaded so, here we go!

But first:
:bongsmi:

Now then!

The veg side is looking nice and green:

As I mentioned before: Sprout has been upgraded to a bigger pot and has been living in it for about 6 days now. Another couple of days and she'll be heading into flower to join Dorothy:

Also, I mentioned that I had started some new training for the little vegging clones. Well, they're not so little anymore so they're getting trained all over the place. Here's an example of the rubberbands around the pots that I was speaking of:

Makes training nice and easy.

Some of the leaves were showing a bit of yellow so I gave them an N-heavy feeding. They burned a tad bit but look to be loving it otherwise. They're very healthy except for the slight discoloration so I'm really not too worried. Here's a shot of Petunia:

The clones will have to veg for another few weeks as they wait for Dorothy to finish. This will give me plenty of time to train them. Also, I'll get to use the full height of flowering once I get them in there. They are in 5-inch square pots that are probably a half gallon or so. So, I don't expect them to get gigantic.

Anyway, now for the star of the show Dorothy. Here she is basking in the light of the HPS:

At just day 32, she's really starting to fill out:

And did someone order some frost to go with November? Apparently:

Some beautiful colors and the smell is a combination of fruit, armpit, beer and a touch of citrus:

Also, she started to sprout some 11-fingered leaves. They are beautiful but they are new so they are a bit thinner than the fan leaves. Speaking of fan leaves, check out this monster 11-finger power plant:

I'm pretty proud to get 11-fingered leaves in a 2.5 gallon pot under a 150W HPS in a cabinet on my first try in the cabient. Also, the buds are far larger than my first basement experience growing this strain.

One more look at the cabinet before the doors shut:

New genetics this weekend. It's a personal favorite of mine so I can't wait to see what I can do with it. Expect to see them in next week's update.

Good luck Obama.

Great thread Q, very detailed and well run.

My :2cents: for the gnats you may or may not have a problem with, I cover my soil with an inch or so of coco medium, it dries out fast and makes it uninviting for the gnats to lay eggs, it`s worked like a charm in my beer fridge grow.

I like your filetring method, I`ll have to fandagle one of those myself.

Welcome OGK/TW!

Welcome OGK/TW!

RealSupreme, janedope: thanks for the kind words! I'm doing the best I can!

Suby: thanks for stopping by. I really admire your advice and info you've got posted in these forums.

Well everyone I got some great news today.

A mate of mine had a bit of extra greenery and so I ended up with a couple of wonderful looking plants that were started from seed.

They are OG Kush/Train Wreck. The leaves are quite large compared to the Purple Kush:

The internodal spacing is tight as hell with this strain:

Quintessa and Quelthala ready to go join the Purple Kush girls in veg:

Of course, this means that Sprout is finally gonna get a chance to shine for me! She didn't get as much time to veg as I would have liked, but that's okay. She got a day over a week from transplant to the bigger pot which is more than Dorothy had. I'm hoping that she'll see the big girl and get jealous:

So, send some good vibes my way as I do my damnedest to hope for girls from those OGKxTW.

Until Tuesday!

Loving the nice mix of genetics you're gathering there, Quazi; Looking forward to vicariously experiencing each strain's particular quirks and perks :canabis:

FWIW, there's a fellow over here who's growing a presumably related strain he's calling "Kushwreck".

wow that pic of the node spacing is great... right on top of each other... is that just the strain or are you controling that somehow?? stretch is one thing i have trouble with...

ambr0sia: thanks man! I look forward to having different types of bud to smoke. Hopefully this one will be a larger yielder than the Purple Kush. Let's also hope the quality is up to snuff.

janedope: I'm thinking it's a strain-dependent thing more than environmental. However: if you have your lights far away from your plants in veg then you'll see some stretch probably. Mine are 8-10" away or so.

Unfortunately my new friends came with some gnats so I removed the plants from veg and gave the leaves a good shaking. I also combed the soil to see if I could drum any up. There were only 4-5 but I don't really want them spreading around.

Anyway, I only put up the one strip at the moment. If the problem gets worse then I'll take different measures. There really wasn't that many of them and putting up a strip worked for the few that I saw in flower.

I may end up taking Suby's advice and put a layer of coco down for my plants in veg.

It Just Gets Better and Better Part I

It Just Gets Better and Better Part I

Well everyone, it's Tuesday which means update time.

Smoking on some fine chronic and got all the photos uploaded for another monster, 2-part update. Hope you all enjoy.

:bongsmi:

Alright, here we go!

A few days ago I introduced some new genetics to the cab. So now, the veg side is getting interesting. Well, I got even more genetics to report now so things got even better:

Let me introduce the new addition to the family: Regina! She's a Bubba Kush clone that looks nice and healthy. She began her life a little while ago in an aero-cloner and was transplanted just a couple days ago:

I had a chance to try the smoke and it's pretty good. It's got a great spicy-flavored quality that seems common among the kush I've tried so far. She'll stay in the peat pot for another day or so until she begins her life in a larger container:

Since she's a lot smaller, she just sits on 4 adjacent corners of the Purple Kush clones so she has a chance to get plenty of light. You can see her in the middle here:

Speaking of the Purple Kush clones, let's take a look at 'em:

There's some leaf discoloration, but overall they are very healthy. They are in rather small containers as I decide what to do with them. Among the few of them, there are plenty of these:

Here they are in alphabetical order:

Patricia

Persephone

Petal

Petunia

A couple received additional training since the last time. They are all looking wonderful. However, I think I may have to sacrifice one or two as I allow for more genetics to flourish so we'll probably see who gets the chop next week.

To finish the veg side, I bring you the OG Kush / Trainwreck girls! They are looking spectacular. I wish they were sexed but for now I'm just hoping for good vibes and happy girls. After putting up the sticky strip in the cab, I've caught a couple of gnats and the problems seems to be mostly gone. Each day I find less and less, so we'll see what happens. Here's one of the little buggers:

Now, for the girls. Here's Quelthala:

Just beautiful. As you can see, there's no definitive sex yet:
57386quelthalaweek2-3.JPG

Here's Quintessa:

Here's some more of the ridiculous inter-nodal spacing the OGK/TW seems to exhibit:
57386quintessweek2-2.JPG

Training will commence on them within the next day or two. They need to be put in larger pots very soon. We'll see what happens. Now, on to the flowering side.

Part II continues below...

It Just Gets Better and Better Part II

It Just Gets Better and Better Part II

The flowering side just looks better every day:

First we'll start with everyone's favorite clone survivor:

That's right, it's Sprout, on day 5 in flower:

Alright, so she's small for being 10 and a 1/2 weeks old, but HEY, at least she's not so little anymore:
57386sproutweek8-2.JPG

I know, I know: she's not going to be an epic yielder. But I'm okay with that. She deserves her days in the 150W.

Speaking of days in the 150W, it's time for the star of the show, Dorothy! She's at day 39 in flower. Wow, have 5 and a half weeks really gone by since then, already? Sheesh, time flies when you're having fun.

Remember how I said that she's been feeding nearly every day? Well, sometimes that's true, and sometimes it isn't. On the times where the pot doesn't seem light enough, I don't water. The next day, I'm usually treated to a sad looking Dorothy. However, after watering, she perks up within an hour. It's really quite amazing.

So (as you wonder why I haven't shown any pictures yet), I did my first try at a time-lapse and caught the behavior in 10-minute intervals over the course of 50 minutes starting from a minute or two after she was watered. I hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoyed making it:
57386dorothyweek8.gif

Now that she's looking her best, she's ready for her close-ups!

Let's get that top-view first:

You can already see: there's a lot more frost than last week.

For the last week, she's been rotated so that one of the buds is less than a quarter of an inch away from the cool tube, if not touching it. This has proven the effectiveness of the cool tube:
57386dorothweek8-1.JPG

Yea, I know it's dirty. I have hard water so it's the leftovers from my water that gets misted on the plants.

Here's a shot of the bud that was up so close to the light for a week:
57386dorothyweek8-4.JPG

No adverse affects there!

She's been rotated back:

Oh yea, there are colas now... WOO-HOO!
:jump: :jump:
57386dorothyweek8-9.JPG

The buds below the top bud just grew right up into the top and produced some beautiful results:

57386dorothyweek8-5.JPG

Here's a close-up of one of the tops:
57386dorothyweek8-6.JPG

Even the auxiliary buds lower down the stem look wonderful:

I was afraid that the 150W wouldn't have the penetration to produce nicer buds lower down the stem. Boy, was I wrong:
57386dorothyweek8-7.JPG

Here's a top view of one of the buds:

A closer look:
57386dorothyweek8-11.JPG

(no, those aren't nanners, but the pic sure made me look!)

Oh man. Just a couple more weeks and it's harvest time. I figure I'll have some ready just in time for the holidays. Probably not as cured as I'd like it, but that's alright. My experience with this strain tells me she'll finish at around 9 and a half to 10 weeks in flower or so. In addition, it tells me that there's still plenty of weight and frost to come.

As always, one last look before we close the doors:

As a side note: I'm almost finished with my overview of cannabis training thread. It's my biggest guide yet (5 parts?!). If you ever had any questions about methods of training cannabis, this guide should point you in the right direction. Look for it in the next couple days.

Good luck in your travels!

totaln00b, janedope, d4twamp: thanks for the kind words!

Well, just a quick update here to add some additional information.

Introduced two new clones to the mix. They are one of my favorite strains of all time: Afgooey.

As I understand, Afgooey is Afghani #1 x Maui Haze. I've smoked it before and it's pretty damned awesome.

This meant that I had to get rid of a few of the little Purple Kush girls that were waiting in order to make room.

In addition, Quelthala showed me a couple of pistils today so I've got at least 1 OG Kush / Trainwreck goin now.

I might have to get rid of one more of the Purple Kush girls in order to have room for everyone.

Once everyone is in their new pots and comfortable with their new homes, I'll introduce you. Probably not until Tuesday now.

Dorothy has trichs developing in the middle of the fan leaves that are quite a few inches away from the buds -- so you can imagine what the buds look like.

Still working on the Cannabis Training guide. Should be finished this weekend.

Until Tuesday.

Excellent job Quazi. you made that old sink base into a decent gro cab.

When you use the 12 guage copper wire for LST all you have to do is cut a length, make a hook at one end, and spear the other end in the ground. With a bunch of these hooks of different lengths you can keep re-arranging if need be. Very handy way to use 12 guage wire.

looking great Quazi! Nice selection of genetics you got there. Way to fully max out that light as well. 150's will put out, it's up to the grower to max it out though, and it definately looks like you got that mastered. I'm looking forward to reading your lst guide. I love a good lst'ed plant, I used to have pics I could of contributed but I think they vanished with OG. Lemme see if I can dig one up quick...

I have other recent lst'ed plants if you think they would help just holler!

Keep up the good work bro, and happy harvesting!

KUHR-SWWWIISHhhhh... (that's a flushing sound) - Part I

leaddraft: thanks man! It was fun making the time-lapse. I'll do a better job next time.

guanito: excellent suggestion. I considered this but strayed from it a bit as I'm not sure what the protective jacket is made from and I don't want to mess up the organics going on beneath the soil. I'm probably just being over-paranoid, but meh.

StickyIcky29A: thanks! I can't wait to see how it finishes.

killabrown420: sick LST action there! That's a lotta bud-sites! Love it. Thanks for stopping by with those!

Alright then. It's Tuesday so I expect everyone is awaiting an update (or not). First of course:
:bongsmi:

Now then.

First off, my overview to training guide is finished, so check that out if you get a chance.

Second, I have to apologize because my computer froze while transferring the files from the camera to the computer. I lost a ton of good photos, but I was able to save enough for a good sized update. Sorry!

Alright, so I was sick of searching for nice, tall, square pots so I just decided to go DIY. This meant I was just looking for a container. Well, I picked 3 up for a buck at the dollar store. They are little trash cans. They are rectangular, tall, and just over 1.75gal. Here it is:

Punched some holes in it with my pocket-knife and widened them with some metal-snips:

Turned out pretty nice:

So, I can put two of those in the space it would take for 1x2 gallon circular pot that wouldn't be as tall. Since cannabis is a deep-rooting plant, the taller the better.

On to the potting...

I mix up my soil in a big tub and let it sit at least a day before transporting. If the soil is starting to warm up, it lets me know there's some activity happening. Otherwise, I let it sit another day. Unfortunately, I don't have the time/space to have a tub of soil sit for a week or two like it really should:

Put down a trash bag to keep the soil off of the floor:

Petal and Patricia were showing the most budsites for me so I tranplanted both of them into a trash can. The other two clones (Persephone & Persephone) were gifted to someone else as I didn't have room for them. Anyway, they are very happy in their new home:

Behind the PK clones, you can see the rest of the girls vegging:

I color-coded them so you can tell who they are:

Purple = Afgooey clones who have yet to be named because I need to get more name-tags. If anyone has any suggestions I'm definitely willing to take them. It has to start with the letter 'S'.

Bright green = Regina the Bubba Kush clone no longer in her peat pot.

Orange = Quelthala the OG Kush X TW from seed. You can see some lower fan leaves that got ruined when they were allowed to sit in the N-heavy watering. In addition, you can see traces of nute burn on some of the other leaves. Such is learning the differences of feeding when it comes to strains. The new growth looks beautiful. She started her training a few days ago and the auxiliary bud-sites are already starting to stretch up.

As I said, she's been confirmed female. You can see the pistils in the middle of the pic. They are a bit blurry, but there:

Quintessa, the other OGKxTW from seed had not shown me pistils but had pre-flowers already which made me think that she, was probably a he. I didn't have room for both of them, so Quintessa (or maybe just Quin) had to go.

That means Quelthala will enjoy time alone in her nice, big, trash-can pot. DIY for the win, huh?

Now, on to part II and the flowering side.

Part II continues below...
