<$150 led or 250w MH

im interested to see if yuu think this much light is over kill

i mean i kinda influenced you to get lighting that would destroy an equal watt of HPS/MH so i expect it will be more light

i just wonder if it turns out to be too much if there is such a thing hahaha

59w off the wall right plus like 1w for the fan?

so 60wx4=240w less lecky than a 250mh and i suspect( if your fan is dailed down to just what u need for temps or on a temp regulator thing) u will save some more watts there too

IDK about overkill yet but I don't think I will be hurting for lumens any time soon! I've now tested the side exhaust squirrel cage fan sink against a modified squirrel cage heatsink that now has a standard square fan pulling hot air off and exhausting out the top, along with the other heatsink with the square fan side exhaust. The only difference was I used 5.2v for the square fans and 12v for the squirrel cage. At those voltages, they were equally quiet but the square fans have potential to be pushed up to 12v if/when needed for additional cooling. The cooling capacity was practically equal as well so it's down to the modified squirrel/square fan heatsink or the side exhaust square fan heatsink, probably the modified version.

I had two lights on for side by side testing of the heatsinks and you can not imagine how bright it was in here, I'm talking headache bright.

I will most likely have two canopy fans for circulation, along with the filter/fan(yes it's dialed down to 28w but I haven't heat tested it yet), the four cob fans, possibly one fan in the center of the mothership, and one on the drivers out back.

If for some chance I can't deal with the heat or it's too much light, can I run two of these cobs in parallel off one of these drivers for 750ma @35v? Or would that be series, or not even possible with these?

lol glad to hear u aprove of the lumen output-can u believe there r still ppl saying leds dont have the intensity to grow bud lol

do some googling i cant remember if parralel wiring halfs the volts as well as the A if not then it will be fine if it does half the volts then check the specs and see if it will have enough volts to drive them

i recomend starting with them as they r

if u were to run a 250w bulb the heat would be more than these

If you want to parallel strings, read this first.
http://ledlight.osram-os.com/wp-con...rentDistributioninParallelLEDStrings.Web_.pdf

There are precautions to take

tnx dude i skimmed that quickly though

he is talkiinga bout running only 2 LEDs in a series so i think the V dif would be minimal

"wiring in series divides the total power supply between the LEDs. Wiring them in parallel means that each LED will receive the total voltage that the power supply is outputting. "
some dude on intructables

anyway ill talk to the electrician soon and get a ef answer for ya dude... 1st instict was that it only halves A and that what google is telling me but id rather say i dont know then give bad advise

i wanna see a pic of these lights all on in a cab hahaha

and if u have access to a par meter- maybe u can rent one for a day?( i know im being greedy)

Yeah that site was more about strings. I went to this site below and it calculates specs for you. I know it works for individual leds but idk about cobs yet. It looks like I could run 2 cobs at 750ma each or 4 at 375ma each with resistors.
http://www.ledcalc.net/?betriebsspannung=40&led_anzahl=4&led_spannung=37&led_strom=375&enorm=24

Dion, I don't have time or money to rent a par meter but I do have a cheapo LUX/FC meter that I used to maximize canopy lighting before. There are formulas to convert lux to lumens.

Stay tuned, I'll have those lights hung shortly! :woohoo:

Couple pics, I may stick with these independent like this, I kind of like it!

I hoped to have them lit last night but after an hour of digging through my scrap wire bin, I realized I didn't have enough pieces long enough for this job. I just got back from Radio Shack and should have lights on soon. :woohoo:

First time firing all four at once, still need to wire up the fans, make a switch box for the drivers, then tidy up the wiring.

I got the fans wired up and found a wall wart in my stash to power them, then split loom wrapped all the wires up nice and tidy. After testing for a while, I noticed two of them on opposite corners are 10* warmer than the other two and had to do some troubleshooting. I found the two warmer ones had the fans installed 90* off from the others so I will be swapping them around and testing again tomorrow with the filter/fan blowing. Hopefully that should cure the warmer ones, either way, they are not but about 15* above ambient on the hotter ones so they're not bad.

Also got some Girl Scout Cookies x OG Kush cross seeds from a friend along with a few other strains but I soaked 5 of these last night and had to plant them today, the tail was poking out on all!:dance013:

always good to test although sound slike you could hav egotten away with passive cooling on this one

excited fo ya

I really could have gotten away with passive but the few ma's that the fans pull won't hurt, plus I get the added benefit of a few extra lumens from a cooler cob. The four fans pull .17a ea or .68a total at 12v but I'm running them on a single 800ma 5.2v phone charger.

That's pretty awesome! My schwag plants are still growing slowly and the GSCxOG seedlings are just starting to put out leaves so not a lot of action ATM but I'll try to get the grow thread started this weekend. I also dropped a few more GSCXOG along with a few Lavender S1's last night. My mind is racing with the mother/veg cabinet, I'm not happy with it at all, even temporary. The problem is I need to keep it stealth but easy to access and there are not a lot of options at this location with the kids and all. The main problem with this one is size and location. It's a couple inches too narrow/deep for fluorescent tubes and a couple inches to short for LEDs/heat sinks. I'm sure I'll figure something out but it's driving me nuts for the past few days thinking about it.

Have your drivers arrived yet and did you find a stealthy spot?

drivers arrived not sure if its gonna be possible for me this year/in this country

fluros diagonally?

how is it too short fo rleds? u mean the cob light spread?

possibly look into xml 2 or similar

fasttech.com love this site

the only thing with running 4 is i think the 3070s dont g o down that low check with cree

anyway i have a feeling you will never actually do this seen as you will find we went totally overboard on the lights anyway so you are more liekly to build a 2nd flower cab lol i know that sounds a bit evil but i really didnt want you disappointed in LED tech as so many are who buy those shitty spiderman lights plus we has 250w to play with

also if you havnt already have a sticky beak at this thread

https://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?t=184932

a few tips diferences you will need to apply to tune your grow style for LED use such as temp selection nute use trich status etc

Yeah, my mind is already working overtime on another spot. A perfect(for me) scenario is two 3x3 or 4x4 tents on a flip flop flowering and a 2x2 or 2x4 for veg/mothers. I just don't have ANYWHERE for that right now. Shit, I'm just trying to find a slightly larger spot for my veg/moms and having trouble doing that. It's to the point I don't even want to put too much time in the veg spot I have now, I didn't even have a ventilation fan until minutes ago and it's only a temporary fix. Good news is, I have a few good genetics above ground so there will be some action soon, whether I'm satisfied with conditions or not. Nutes are on the way and meters should be here any day. Once I get them, I'll probably crank up the flower cab and start the schwag plants, then add the good plants every couple weeks after.

I'll check that thread this evening, bout to crash, it's 4am here.
