Hi, Is that one descendant from three Cambodian seeds Mustafunk gave to you about 2020 or 2021?

Greetings!
He gave me 50 or so seeds (many crushed in mail as old & soft), only two ever sprouted after many months of nursing, one exploded and the other took months just to get going, but yes any Cambodians I’ve worked with recently is either Cambodian #1 or #2 from those 50

Hi again.

In 2019 a friend gave me 3 seeds he got from a friend of him who was in Cambodia many years ago, may be 10 or 12. As I was not able to grow them I sent those seeds to Musta. I asked him later and the told me he sent them to other grower and they became two intersexed plants, both were culled, and one female that was kept as mother an used to mate with other males or selfed.

I got 7 more seeds of the same strain from my friend. But he got a problem in his fridge and those seeds became trapped inside a block of ice and became wet. I tried to germinate them but failed. He also tried to germinate the ones he kept for himself but he also failed.

So if you got that female, you are the last person with such Cambodian line, as my friend and me lost the last seeds. Those plants were still pure landrace and they became pretty huge, but my friend only grew once seed per time and he got only females, so he never made seeds. A few months ago other friend visited Phnom Penh and he only got hybrid weed not pure sativa landrace. So it seems Cambodian landrace is not anymore easy to get for tourists or visitors.

If you still have the genetics, you are lucky as it was pretty good ;)

I successfully sent him cuts of Cambodian #1 & 2 from USA to Spain regular mail, no easy feat but I came up with a good method - anyhow…

The moms are many years gone from here now & him too but I made selfed seeds & many more with Laotian. Some of the Laotian were raw wild pure land race & very difficult to grow, but the Cambodian x Laotian crosses can turn out absolute gems & some of us have been working on them for years now….

PM we can discuss, I’ve successfully sent to nearly every continent & have less than a 1% failure rate so no security concerns,

Cambodian #1 - she expressed extreme whorled phyllotaxy

IF the Cambodian seeds I actually ended up growing many years ago came from you, many thanks for your contribution along the ways, it takes a village ;)

You’re welcome to some of those seeds if you’d like, just hit me up in PM we can discuss, I’ve successfully sent to nearly every continent & have less than a 1% failure rate so no security concerns, seeds I send are always free too :

Wow, that is an amazing plant hanging there. Was that grown outside? If so at what latitude?

I think Green is wrong; and furthermore that there’s different types of auto flowering within cannabis vs say low Ryder

I’ve been pondering the Monoecious thing some more and I’ve seen it in SE Asians, Africans & Hawaiians (Molokai Frost) personally, for instance I recently reversed my Cambodians #1 and she dropped tons of pollen, made tens of thousands of seeds, the thing is though she beat me to the reverse punch. Once I rotated her @ I found one full arm all male before my sprays had done anything, I’ve seen & watched these same arms on other Cambodians, Laotians, Hawaiians, Gambians etc, I’ve seen them grow seemingly overnight & be dumping pollen in a matter of days, it’s unbelievable but I’ve seen it too many times to doubt it….these arms are on otherwise complete female plants

Again On Full female plants, a 2-3 foot arm grows with pearl like only male flowers on it, dumps in a matter of days, entire arm growth, flowers & dumping takes less than a week. It screams of survival mechanism to me and also why it imo SE Asians are never firmly Male or female as it happens with them so regularly…

Full blown male X that came from a “reversed” Cambodian, I’m certain the seed he came from came from pollen from the wild male arm & not the two I reversed…

So when I speak of contamination it doesn’t necessarily mean what we end with, it could be just as easily what we began with, the plant doesn’t even have to show you the one “odd” arm either, it can be buried deep within the genes, but its there ;) - so without testing inputs & outputs we truly don’t know what we’ve got, sexuality is fluid in cannabis, equatorial sativas even more and SE Asians it’s fundamentally a thing - LadyBoys beware
Have you already used such Cambodian male to make seeds?

I guess it is an S2 of your Cambodian #1 whorled phlylotaxy mutant. Is such line still pure Cambodian landrace?

It’s hard to say for certain what pollinated what as these arms appear on the Laotian & Cambodian & often will pollinate things before you ever knew they existed; that’s why I started referring to later generations as simply SE Asian or Cambodian/Laos as I’m not 100% certain what did what; the original selfing of the Cambodians was done without any Laotian @ so I know they are true but again though many seeds were made few were fertile & those stocks of seeds are small, unfortunately and for me to use to one day rebulk up the Cambodians (inbreeding depression beginning too big time) but to also mix in with a few other older Laotian lines I’ve yet to ever grow and with the ones I already know in order to keep health & vigor to these old, pure & extremely rare SE Asian genetics

But what I’ve been calling SE Asian or Cambodian/Laos are very true to the area, smell like SE Asians, have large pointy calyx on pearl like growth, larger seeds. The first generations of the Cambodians mixed in with many different Laotian are where it’s at, enough diversity to hunt @ a long time, seeds are ok viability & you can find a random male. Sexuality in SE Asians in general are very fluid; to me it’s a sign of SE Asian authenticity

Peace

It seems you got something amazing with such random (or not so random) pollination. Somewhat like Haze but working with SE Asians strains instead Colombians. May be you bring back again something that became lost several decades ago due to inbreeding. Luckily your got seeds from plants that still were of the old pure and unadulterated NLD landrace.

Inbreeding depression is something that eventually happens with selfed seeds. I have read Sam Skunkman said that S4 suffer serious inbeeding depression and fail even to make seeds or those seeds to sprout. I know about the problem quite well.

On the other hand such fluid sexuality have saved them from extinction for sure.

I am very interested to see what sex ratio show seeds made with one of those males, as supposedly they have no Y chromosome.

Ivan Bocsa said Cannabis tends to be dioecious. And monoeciousness was only possible by human intervention.

Intentional with understanding some randomness would exist due the nature of SE Asian cannabis & its sexual limitations; and as you mention benefits for survival.

Whenever I get rare old P1 seed or pretty much anything I’m truly interested in I first do a seed bulking which is growing every seed I’ve got, letting as many females & males live & making seeds in bulk; I’ll then separate out some outliers I like but make a general all seed bucket; I then take from that all bucket to do future breeding work always having something to revert back to that most expresses the diversity I began with, although limited it’s the best one can do…

Some call this open pollination but I don’t; OP to me is breeding in mass & creating true breeding heirlooms over many years, decades in natural settings…

Bulking is what I prefer to call it, and bulking often saves things from extinction, if only we all always did this.

RE X & Y chromosomes, I don’t think it’s that cut & dry in SE Asians but more they are sexually fluid in an allergy bucket theory almost kind of way, and they can be pushed towards certain sexual expressions which overwhelmingly are female hermaphrodites of one form or another; I’m not sure I’d ever call a SE Asian genetic plant a true male, they are like unicorns but some form of males exist even if it’s just a few arms here & there or spots on mostly otherwise female plants…. Survival is a powerful driver ;)

New Caledonia Monoecious Male; I’ve seen two types Monoecious cannabis, one - male parts show first then female above & beyond that; two - well into flower entire male arms grow overnight & open on otherwise full female plants…

This is type 1

update

the plant did not produce any seeds the polene was very sterile and fortunately because I was a little afraid of finding myself with all my plants fertilizing. ultimately apart from a spectacular growth in smell and taste she was below her sisters

I have one right now…
I reversed peanut butter breath and pollinated chem sis. Found a regular full male

What do we call these feminized males?
