Tiger's Den 4 - Buildout

Hey hey guys!

As some of you may know, I had a potential security breach that forced me to shut down my grow. With the issue dealt with, I decided to take the opportunity to revamp my grow pods.

So, welcome to the buildout thread!

Here's some models that lay out the general idea, although the third pod has been nixed.

5121growroomventilation.jpg

As you can see, the ventilation has been revamped to allow for less constrictive airflow. Each cool tube arm will have a damper between the cool tube and the main to allow for an even airflow through both tubes.

In the lower section of the back wall, you'll see registers for A/C. The air conditioner will be mounted into a makeshift plenum duct. Each register is adjustable, to control the amount of cooling.

Ventilation is handled by a speed controlled 8 in Vortex, exhausting through my homemade carbon filter.

Here's the vital specs:

Measurements: 4x4x7 each pod

Lighting: 1000w HPS in flowering pod (62 wpsf), 400w MH in Veg pod (25 wpsf)

Ventilation: 8in Vortex 747 CFM fan ducted to 6 inch through dampered homemade cool tubes.

Odor Control: Homemade Carbon filter

Cooling: 5000 BTU air conditioner, plenum ducted through 10inx6in registers

Electrical: 30 amp dedicated circuit (see the step by step installation) & 15 amp dedicated circuit

Plumbing: None. R/O water via 5 gallon bottle (my back whimpers)

Plant Count: 4 in flowering pod

Estimated Yield: Pffft, yeah right

Medium: Soil transitioning to hand-watered Coco

Of course, every good remodel has to start with the fun - demolition!

And here's why you periodically test things beyond normal use:

That's right, a 1kw HPS bulb that cracked at the base, and the glass just slid right out, leaving the exposed element :yoinks: No worries though, replacement is already in route. Managed to snag my first horti bulb too, for less than the standard bulb costs me.:woohoo:

We'll proceed along, with updates coming daily to completion. No time to waste, we're looking at being up and running by July 1, and with only one guy, there's no time to waste.

Any questions?

Yeah Irish, that was fun one. Went to take the bulb out to clean out the cool tube and dust the bulb, and it unscrewed awfully easy :D Saw what had happened, and just kinda stared for a minute :biglaugh: Wasn't too bad though, I was already planning on taking the cool tubes apart to rework them into system with dampers.

Heya Stretchpup! You may want to see how it actually turns out before you invite me over :biglaugh: Main problem I'm having is the old house I'm in - everything is out of square and unlevel. It's soooo much fun cutting a board to 85", just to realize the space actually goes from 85in to 83.5 in

ROFLMFAO, I have totally been there NT. and when you work in the construction field for any length of time, you quickly find out just how many houses are thrown together and not really measured. The way houses are built around here, you could have as many 200 different people touch a house with each doing a different job to the house, before its built.

All I'm saying is I had to remodel a bathroom in an older neighborhood around here and measuring the drywall was hard as hell cause there were no right angles anywhere on any piece I cut to fit. None of the walls, or the ceilings ran in parallel planes.

As long as you stay on your toes NT, I have faith in you, you can take accurate measurements and make accurate cuts. Just remember what all of our fathers have told us. "Measure twice, Cut once. Don't cut my cord in 2 you little shit :cuss: :spank:" Weren't those times good?

Yep, I've resorted back to the multi measure. Measure in about 6 inch increments, pencil 'em on the plywood, connect the dots, and cut the line :D

It's especially bad here, because this house was built back in the 50s, when they apparently had no concept of drainage and underground aquifers, so the foundation has cracked, so not only is the ceiling off level, but the floor is off level in a completely different way :pointlaug:

But, like you say, been there done that, so no biggie.

Just annoying as shit LOL

I had the same problem when building my room. Building the room in an old house and the difference in height from one side of the room to the other side of the room was almost 2.5 in. What a pain in the ass.

Good luck with the remodel. I will be watching this one.

tagged! one question though, why no plumbing? a drip setup with coco would be so easy! i just did it for mine and they did great for the 5 days i was gone with only a 8L rez.

Because the water down there is what almost killed off my plants last time, remember? :D

I almost cry when I think of what that water did to those poor Miss. Muds and White Rhinos.

So, if I were to maintain a rez, it'd take me minimum 15 gallons a week of R/O coming in, and that's a hell of a lot worse than 5 :D Plus I'd have to get all the other crap - like a TDS meter. And make it more complex. Running the tubing, etc, etc.

Just don't need to make anything more complicated, y'know? I know the soil, and from my very limited experience with it, hand watering coco is much like caring for the soil plants. More frequent watering, sure. But I can still mix my nutes up 1 gallon at a time, in the ratios I know work without giving myself another headache measuring TDS.

KISS, y'know? :chin:

Its not a bad idea NT. you gotta stay in your comfort zone, otherwise your not gonna know how to react to what might happen. That and keeping it simple.

Oh man, what strains will I be running, that's a hell of a question

Some truly great, great friends here at IC Mag opened their strain vaults when they heard I was in need of genes. I am now in possession of the most varied seed selections I have ever had. Truly some awesome folks here.

So, strain selection is far from decided, rest assured, you'll know 'em when you hear 'em.
