3 Sats and a little cheese

Alright guys
This is my second run using coco. The first run, after switching from hydro, seemed to go well. That was with Canna Coco mixed with 30% pearlite. This run is with pure coco.

The plants are cuttings that have been rooted up and vegged under a 400w mh. Already had a little drama; it is the first time i have ever accepted cuttings from other growers/breeders and also the first time my plants have got Spider Mite. Spotted them 6 days after certain cuts came into the room after noticing a few pale specks on the larger fan leaves. Searched with a x20 lens and found two animals and some eggs.

I sprayed them with Growth Technology Spider Mite Control, @25ml/L twice 12 hours apart. Looked closely for 5days and found nothing. I've just sprayed again as a precaution. I was allowing the room temp to get up to 29c before finding the mites-since finding them have dropped lights on temps to 22-24c.

The problem is the humidity-over the years i've tried everything to raise humidity in early veg, barring buying a humidifier. I need to get one pretty quick.

The strains have all come to me as gifted cuts-Madsat is a creation by the diesel magician Baklo. A man who has created some v serious strains sent this with the short comment: 'the finest weed available to humanity' so i've got high hopes for this one. Its a sat dom 10 weeker.
Saturn and M32 came from Mysterious Keith, along with some little friends. These are crosses by a breeder in West London. They are both long flowering sat doms-by the look of the leaves-Saturn looks to be the most sat in the room.
UK Cheese is the original clone only vibe-not one of the the commercial hacks. The yield is supposed to be low and the strain is prone to mite attack.
Thanks to Rabbit aka Prawn Science for that one.
Finally-a single K2 cut from the Vietcong. A really wierd pheno-they hardly stretch and grow into little bushy balls of bud-you'll see.

ok-i've waffled on too much-more waffle later
love the technical shit in the coco section

peace-eddie

Good luck with this run--I'll tune in for updates.

alright guys-thanks for the vibes

yo-NPK-the bubblegum turned out real nice, the smell of them growing and drying was wonderfull.
I'm still concerned about whether the mites will come back and am going to continue spraying them with some form of pest control until buds start to form-

one thing that i found with the first coco run was the plants went a bit pale and growth slowed for a while when they were first put into coco-Rabbit told me to give them lots of foliar feeding at this point-so i sprayed them with every watering/feed and the difference was marked-they stayed deep green and started growing straight away

another thing was the density of the buds-the heaviest i've produced. I'd assumed this was due to the lower temps in the growroom-but have since been told buds tend to be denser with coco-time will tell i guess-

Bit more detail: the plants are currently getting two feeds a day of Canna Coco (ec 1.3-1.5) , Cannazyme 3ml/L, Rhitzotonic 2ml/L, GT Silicon 1ml/L, ph 6.0. I water them until a little run off shows out of the 6" pots. They need potting up into 15L pots but i've been holding off until i get this Tropt Blumat irrigation-need to get my finger out on that one.

The leading shoots on all but the Cheese and K2 have been pinched out-and i've been snapping some of the stems to keep them down a bit-they are going to be scrogged (under a horizontal screen) and if they get too big i'll fix screens to the walls and open up the reflectors-i've done it before with Powerplant grows that have got out of hand.

cheers guys

Hey EddieShoestring,

nice looking plants, can't wait to see what you get out of them, they look real healthy so far, except for the cheese clone that is, lol. is that the one that had mites?

Hi Gaius
fair play for pulling me on the cheese -it was in quarentine for almost a couple of months , under my desk in a prop in a 3/4" cube. It very nearly died several times due to me forgetting about it. Laziness combined with a failing short term memory:(
it looks better today tho

just potted up a madsat and m32. Look how much faster the m32 has rooted compared to the madsat plant-i wonder why

another thing that i have not seen before is the growth pattern on the m32. Looks like it's trying to flower under 24h of light. There are two of them and both of them are doing it-throwing out lots of pistils on the new growth.

more potting up later

yeah her cheesyness is looking a lot better today. maybe the madsat was taken off a plant in the first 2 weeks of 12/12? or she's just a very sexy lady LOL.

very nice looking root ball, perfect egsample of when to repot.

peace and good growings

hi everyone-quick update

thanks for the feedback on re-potting, Gaius-being new to pots and brown stuff it's good to know that i'm doing things approximatly right

yo 24red and Missfit-hello and welcome:)thanks for looking in

ok-nothing major to report, got the humidity up a bit with an odd little humidifier-which made a mess the first time i used it. I haven't yet got all of the plants in their final container or positions so the screen stays off for the moment. I hate mylar-it's such a pain in the arse to deal with-but i've found this stuff that is thick, lightproof and backed with white plastic so that it is easier to manage-so i thought that i might have a go with it.

Potted up two more Madsats the other night -wandered off forgetting to water them in for about 5 hours-they didn't even wilt a bit and showed roots out of the bottom of the pots in under 48hours-got to say it is pretty difficult to fuck it up with this medium:)

I'm seeing a few problems with the M32 plants-they are the ones with the finest sat leaves-they are showing N def on a few mid and lower leaves-and also have a slightly arched leaf profile suggesting a bit of over fert. Gave them ph'd water last night. I can see how this multi strain thing could get tricky-especially as there are 3 different sats and a cheese that i've never grown before....hmmm.

otherwise -just ordered a Volcano for home use-should be here tommorrow morning. Spent an afternoon experimenting with one last week and lost the power of speech at one point-which got pretty wierd as i was dealing with members of the public at the time (and NO-i'm not a traffic warden)-

still feeding with Rhitzo and Cannazyme and Silicon with nutes at ec 1.4-5/ph 6 ish
cheers

Yo ICMag

yeah-Missfit-the multi strain thing is a bit silly. I've been growing single strains over and over again on trays and tables-so can end up mainly smoking one type of weed for a year or two. That can get a bit tedious especially when it's a sleep inducing indica-so liberated by the coco pot-the plan was to experiment and find a few really good strains and have big jars of various primo bud littering my house then i could waft around in a Noel Coward dressing gown vapourizing this and that: the reality is it's already getting to be a pain in the ass-having to do plain water feeds for some-lighter for others-and heavy for the k2.

Anyway.........i found some little creatures swimming around in the runoff last night. Little white beasties roughly 1mm long with a pair of, what look like, antennas at one end-they swim along a bit and then zip off quick-then swim a bit more etc etc. This grow's turning into a wildlife programme. I guess that they are some type of gnat larvae or a root eating worm.

i'm going to miss a couple of waterings to let them dry a little -and do a bit more research later when the kid is in bed-

otherwise they look to be growing alright-will turn the lamps off tonight for around 24-36hours then put them on 12/12

cheers

Gaius-i recon that we need a pest sticky or thread for the coco forum-like a place with pics for visual identification, descriptions and remedies for the common pests and problems encountered with coco.

-it looks like these little swimmers are springtails-here's another pic i found elsewhere-apparently they are not supposed to be a problem-but i'm probably going to throw something on them over the next few days that should encourage them to move on.

i need to get in there and control these plants a bit as they are getting a bit big-still haven't got the plastic scrog screen- and still fiddling around with the room. Growing tends to reveal what a person is really like.....some get big ego's-others obsessed with status, money and bling........i'm always late for everything and it's showing up in my grows-i'm still undecided on the final lighting arrangement for flowering this lot-a Primair Enviroment Controller arrives tommorrow and i expect the room will all be re-built at around 6 weeks 12/12-doh

i'm going to Amsterdam this week for a few days-when i told my girlfriend she went mental and said if i go i would be homeless and single when i get back-so i guess that she'll be taking over the grow later on in the week and i'll be going wireless for a bit-lol

Hiya Eddie,.. good luck with your short break..and your room rebuild.. hee.. the hassle our love of weed gets us into huh??..all good fun tho :)

Your description of them there pests made me remember seein something similar .. but for the life of me I can;t remember .. vaguely possible treated with gnat off - but only cos thats all i had...n gnatoff only works over several treatments - knockin out the food supply for the larvae and not actually killing them..i think i am right.

Keepin it green

lol

keep on keeping on and have fun in amsterdam man.

i agree a sticky about pests might be good, although they are mostly the same as in hydro or earth. and we have some pretty good info on pests in the infirmery . but hey if you wanna start a coco specific pests and solutions thread go right ahead, we can sticky it and let it become a resource. lets make it a condition that only tried and tested remedies must be described assuch. or we just let the info collect and after a while we edit it and compile it to the best info for each problem. good idea man.

hope you don't really find yourself homeless when you get back from ams, lol.

Your plants look very happy and healthy =] Best of luck :joint:

I had these buggers recently... I been watering with some neem concentrate and it seems to be working. I also threw a no pest strip next to the plants.. hopefully it will work.. they don't seem to be a threat to the plant though..

hi everyone

thanks for your comments Missfit, Gaius and IndiSat

i think that the Springtails have gone for the moment, cheers for the link IndicaSativa, that and a bit of research stopped me throwing something agressive and chemical on them in panic. What i did in the end was hold off the watering for 1+1/2 days-they dried right up (not to the wilting stage tho) the beasties dissapeared and have not returned. I don't think we can get those No Pest strips in UKPLC-i wish we could as they sound great.

i'm going to collect a little archive of basic coco related problems and solutions and maybe post them up in a 'problems' thread to be added to, and perhaps edited, later on. cheers gaius

Anyway--back from the Dam, i'm still here but seriously in the dog house-more importantly the grow survived my brief absence without any problems. I got El Presidente to switch the lights off on thurs at 10.00pm and i switched them back on at 2.00pm saturday so thats 40hours of darkness prior to the 12/12 schedule. They have gone a bit pale (not as pale as in the pics tho)-possibly due to the plain water they've been having while i've been away-and the prolonged darkness tends to make the shoots go pale.

As you can see i've let the plants get far too big for the space (doh-i always do that) so am expanding the space by around 1m so that the plants can be moved a little further apart and the branches pulled down. The Madsat plants have grown to roughly twice the size of the other sats-it's pretty amazing growth-and still at day 2 12/12-maybe i'll bust open that last litre of Superbud (only joking-it's out of date anyway).

The plants have had a further two heavy sprays with the GT Spidermite Control-that's 4 in total. There was no sign of the mites after the first spraying -but that doesn't mean they're not there so they will get Pest Off for the next week or so.

Otherwise (waffle)-the m32 plants that were starting to flower under 20/4 have sprouted lots more pistels-as if they were, say, 2 weeks into flower-still not sure what this means.

The temps are still low-21-24c lights on/humidity around 40% and the nutes will be bumped up a bit during the stretch -maybe give them a few hits at ec 1.8 and see how they look.

Amsterdam was hectic, the D-Line (aka Chocaloop aka Chocolate Thai x Cantaloop Haze; DNA Genetics) from the Grey Area was easily the best weed we got-as in November. The woman from the cannabis college was very nice and set us up on the Verdamper-vaperizor-thingy which was fun. My highlight:Tbizla iceolator (from NES) on a bed of finely ground D-Line in a Volcano.

thanks for reading:)

Great work EddieShoestring, your grow is looking all round very healthy and organized. it seems like you have won the battle with the mites etc. good news, you don't want to be spraying fully flowering plants.

peace and good growings
