vaportek/vaportronic scent

Hey All,

I'm looking at getting me a vaportronic to control the odor from my small grow. It seems that most of the folks who use either the vaportek or vaportronic choose to go with the "clean neutral scent."

Does anyone have experience with any of the other scents being offered? If so, are they manageable to the point of not being overwhelming to the nose?

If these things are controllable, and if the scent from say "ocean" is able to be just a minor note in the nose of occupants, and if it is a pleasing smell, then I feel I would rather have that scent than the "bubblegum" scent that the "clean neutral" brings with it.

If your classic neutral carts are making the room smell like bubblegum,you have it turned up too high.Try dropping a number or two.I've never used anything but classic carts in an 8 by 8 very stanky flower room and it doesnt smell bubblegummy at all,doesnt smell like much of anything

although i am not due for a filter for a while i also use a vaportek. the nutreal to me smells more like a hospital or veterarian office... kind of plasticy... bubblegum is a good descrip too if its really high.

I would also like to know, there are many scents to choose from ... it would be interesting to see if others smelt better, or possibly make the pot smell worse...

It seems like the manufacturer could easily produce some scratch and sniff samples to help customers choose. Wouldn't they have these on hand, at least for the larger clients who don't want to choose a scent for a big order only to find the scent doesn't please them? And if they have them for larger clients, hell, scratch and sniff sheets are so cheap to make, it seems they would have them ready to give every customer.

I am also looking to get a different scent next time. The bubblegum smell isn't bad but I'd prefer something else. I like the smell covering up everything so I cycle my Vaportronic pretty high with 2 of 5 discs put in.

You could try the "classic stanky ho" but I kinda like the neutral myself lol.Really if the neutral smells like bubblegum to you folks any other one is likely to be more "odiforous"

I went to the vaportek website, and emailed their customer service. Said I was considering purchasing one of their vaportronics, but wasn't sure what scent would work best for me, and did they have any scent samples that I could smell first.

The customer service replied almost immediately, and asked for my address so they could send some samples.

Problem solved!

I was going to say that they probably give out samples of the actual product, forget scratch'n'sniff. Let us know what you think of them when they arrive!

Vaportek sells two kinds of neutralizers:

1. Discs

2. Membranes

The discs are what go into the Vaportek 4000.

The membranes go into some of the smaller Vaportek cannisters.

I have the Nature Fresh unit, which costs around $12 for the cannister and the first membrane. The membranes cost somewhere around $35 for 12. They say to replace the membranes every 60 days, but mine seem to last about 30 days with strong effect, and then another couple of weeks with fairly weak effect.



You take that paper strip, which has the oils sealed inside, and you roll it up and place it into the cannister. Yes, that little strip can REALLY REEK! Hard to believe, but true.

People say the "neutral" smell is like bubblegum, and I guess it kind of is. I get more of a cinnamon/spice scent from it, but bubblegum is close, too. I wish they'd sell a variety pack of the membranes. It would be nice to get some different scents.

I find that Vaportek really does what it says: it doesn't just mask or cover up odors. The Vaportek seems to somehow blend with the smell of pot plants, and in the end you have an odor that's not quite like the Vaportek, and not quite like weed. It's something different, but it's nice and it sure doesn't smell like weed, and I think that's the goal.

FWIW, you don't need to Vaportek 4000 for a small or even medium grow. You can use a membrane-based Vaportek unit if you're just growing a few plants, like me...

Good to hear from someone who is messing with this. You should email the vaportek customer service and ask for them to send you some samples.

I just dont get the bubblegum from my classic neutral carts,I have it on 3 in an 8 by 8 room fullo flowering plants and when I walk in I smell a whole lotta nuthin really,kinda a clean smell.What I like is there is absolutly no smell in my living room,I can have my front door wide open and usually do.

You are correct, the proper way to use the vaportek products is to dial them in accurately, to the point of hiding the cannabis odor and not smelling the scent itself.

My point is that if perfectly dialing in the vaportek/tronic isn't quite possible, and there is going to be some odor, even if minor, I might rather have a different scent than what the "classic neutral" gives off. This is why I want to see what all the scents have to offer. Just my two scents. I know, that was bad.

I guess what people (like me) are saying about the bubblegum smell is that when you put your nose anywhere near the membrane, the thing smells kind of like bubblegum. When the unit is placed somewhere in the room, and you walk into the room, you're right that you don't really get the bubblegum smell. It does smell kind of "neutral," if that makes any sense, when you walk in the room. Of course, no smell at all would be what I call neutral, but while the smell exists, it is kind of a neutral smell. Confusing? Hmmm...

Here is my SNIFF report:

Ocean:
Smells kind of like a freshly painted room with a bunch of those anti-static clothes dryer sheets hanging all over the place. Pungent factor…5/10. Not unpleasant, but not like the ocean, IMO.

Neutral:
Very close to the smell of Big Red chewing gum. Spicy, sweet, cinnamony. Pungent factor…10/10 (I’m going to the max with this because Vaportek says in their literature that this is the strongest odor neutralizer they sell). Smells good, but I wouldn’t want my dwelling to smell like this.

Forest:
Ya know those pinetree things you hang in your car….thats what this smells like. Pungent factor…9/10, pretty powerful. If this could be dialed down to where it is only a slightly noticeable scent, I would be ok with it, but then I have always like the smell of pine trees. It would seem to be quite close to some of the piney scented strains of cannabis…not the same, but close.

Winter:
Somewhat similar to Ocean…I’m getting the dryer sheets thing again, mixed with peppermint. Quite refreshing. Hints of some kind of gum…can’t place it. Pungent factor…6/10. Maybe a tad to similar to industrial style cleaners though for my taste.

Mint:
Hmmm. Doublemint chewing gum, but with a more synthetic finish. Missing the sweetness found in many mint scents. Not as powerful, pungent factor…3/10. This could be good if the scent stayed in the background.

Herbal:
I don’t know what to say…it smells herbal. With a slight suggestion of leather. Fairly strong synthetic smell in it. Pungent factor…7/10. Personally, I don’t care for this one.

Lemon:
Lemon drops! Missing some of the sugary smell you would get from smelling real lemon drops. Pungent factor…5/10. This might be good for those who keep their abodes squeaky clean and use Lemon Pledge or other assorted citrus cleaners. That wouldn’t be me though. But it is quite a nice scent.

Meadow:
Kinda yucky to me. A mix of fresh paint, dryer sheets, and cotton candy. And maybe Granny Smith apples. Pungent factor…5/10. If that’s their idea of a meadow, then I’m definitely a city boy.

Vanilla:
Damn….really reminds me of something…can’t place it. Vanilla a bit, but definitely a synthetic vanilla smell. Has an institutional smell to it. I don’t like it. Pungent factor…5/10

Lavender:
Kind of perfumy, with the dryer sheets thing. Not bad, but has that institutional feel to it. Pungent factor…6/10.

S.O.S:
This one isn’t listed on their literature, or on their website. I don’t know why I got a sample of it, but I did. Let me start by saying the pungent factor is equal to the neutral….10/10. Quite synthetic, very institutional. Probably use this at morgues and such.

The remaining scent samples that were sent tome: potpourri, Cinnamon, Berry, Orchard, and Cherry are staying in their packaging. My nose is burnt out, and I feel confident that I don’t want to have my abode smelling like any of these.

This sniff report is very subjective, obviously, and anyone who wants to choose the best scent for themselves should really order some samples for themselves. I haven’t decided which I will choose yet, but I probably won’t go with the neutral, there were a couple others that appealed to my nose more. Although the neutral did have a pungency factor that would suggest it can cover odors as well as, maybe better than, most of the others.

What kind of form did the samples come in? Were they the membranes, or the disks, or in some other form?

Also, how much did the sample package cost?

Samples were mini-disks, about 1/2" in diameter, came in small, sealed plastic bags, one scent per bag, of course. Didn't even need to handle the disk, just sniffed inside the bag.

I'll call them tomorrow and order a free sample set. Also, I'll try to convince them that they should sell the membranes in variety 12-packs, instead of having to buy a 12-pack of the same scent.

I'm already a little tired of the classic neutral, and it would be fun to switch around a bit. I'll let you know what they say, even if they tell me to stuff it!

Well, I purchased my vaportronic yesterday. I bought the lemon scented disks. I put one disk into the vaportronic, turned her on and let her go at the factory setting...one minute on, one minute off, etc.

This provides a mild scent of lemon, much like that furniture polish called "lemon pledge" that folks use for dusting and such. I'm not sure if I will reduce the frequency of the on/off cycle (can be reduced all the way down to 1 minute on, 30 minutes off), if I do it won't be by much because the scent is not overpowering at all at present.

I'm very happy with it so far.
