Cannabis America's #1 cash crop, report says

from the article:

California ranked as the report's top state for both outdoor and indoor marijuana production. The report estimates that the state had 4.2 million indoor plants valued at nearly $1.5 billion. The state of Washington was ranked next, with $438 million worth of indoor cannabis plants.

California also is among nine states that produce more cannabis than residents consumed, Gettman estimates. According to the National Survey on Drug Use and Health, the state's 3.3 million cannabis users represent about 13% of the nation's pot smokers. But California produces more than 38% of the cannabis grown in the country, the study contends.

Nationwide, the estimated cannabis production of $35.8 billion exceeds corn ($23 billion), soybeans ($17.6 billion) and hay ($12.2 billion), according to Gettman's findings.

I'd also just like to take this opportunity to ask Nancy Reagan to kiss my ass. You imprisoned us, vilified us, marginalized us, and here's what it got you, cunt:

Gettman's report cites figures in a 2005 State Department report estimating U.S. cannabis cultivation at 10,000 metric tons, or more than 22 million pounds — 10 times the 1981 production.

Emphasis mine. See that, everyone? 10 times MORE production since "Just Say No". Just Say Cha-Ching.

9 states make more than they consume. Whoever you boys are can i remind you it's christmas and the usual UK drought and associated price hike is about to take effect.

Our country needs you!

and the government doesnt want the money associated with cannabis??? why??? you figured they would distribute just for the money. (they would make way more money distrubuting it than the fines n such they issue)

actually this could very well be the crux of the issue: by enforcing prohibition, the feds drastically disrupt the normal supply-demand free market equilibrium and drive the price up by a factor of 10 or more. this inflated price leads to inflated profits which lead to a lot of money laundering. the money laundering involves trying to legitimize the sums while avoiding taxes, and thus much of the laundered money is invested in the stock market. so essentially prohibition = higher profits = more money on wall st. i doubt that the higher ups in the federal government do not understand this equation, but obviously this would not be an acceptable rationale for denying the people access to one of the most useful plants in history.

the fact is prohibition has itself become an industry, and the fines and forfeitures probably don't even cover the entire budget devoted to enforcing prohibition. but 35.8 billion dollars of money needing to be laundered, that can pay some bills.

The only reason it's the #1 cash crop is because the price is artificially high.

Drug dealers make millions and farmers make pennies.

Now, if only there were a safe way to make money off of growing large ammounts of cannnabis. But it would be better overall if it were legal I think. Heres to people realizing that they cant win the war on cannabis! ITs just too good for us!

ain't that the truth. if it was legal there'd be no way it would come out to that much money.

The world is about to turn. Once med MJ is a fact, and prohibition repealed, America will become great again. The family farm will come back to energize the grass roots economy. Medical weed will cut the baby boomers medical bills so that they do not destroy the economy, and tokers will outlive non tokers, fewer cancers, and no alzheimers.

So, who gave out the guild totals to the press?

if they made it fully legal, i think consumption would at least triple... there is way enough$$$ to go around...way enough to pay for the kind KIND KIND...i would love the prices to go down, so everyone could smoke. ive been payin way too much for weed for over 30 years... not any more.hehehe

well done guys. i've never sold anything i have grown, but thats because i know what im going to have to smoke when im out.

If bud were completely legal it would cost anywhere from 1 dollar to 5 hundred dollars (if your an idiot), per pound. Instead it costs 2,000-5,000 per pound and is the nations #1 cash crop... Hrmmm its been that way for over 65 years but it dosent make much sense.

i cant imagine what legalization would do to breeding..obviously the competition would increase greatly. Some really badass genetics would become available (not that they are not available now). Nothing pushes like competition :D
