The Great Thai, Panama, Mexican, Colombian, and Guatemala Landrace Experiment

Hey everyone, welcome to my first ever, in the world, grow journal. I am growing a buttload of landrace strains for personal use. Or maybe I'm not. Are you a cop? Ok, anyway, the run down

Strains:

-Ace/CBG Panama regular x3
-World Of Seeds Colombian Gold regular
-Sativa Seeds El Dorado (yeah yeah, Nirvana...)
-Eskobar Seeds Oaxacan IBL
-Ace/Gypsy Nirvana THAI STICK!!!

I'm thinking of adding another Mexican, either CBGs Jarilla or Eskobar Jalisco IBL. Basically I'm looking for happy, trippy landraces. I have clinical depression with manic states and sativas work way better for medicating than the indicas and hybrids in the clubs. Plus, I want something more spiritual (not hippy dippy, but I wanna talk to God, Jack!) Given those parameters, any suggestions? Should i hold out for Ace and CBG to maybe release the Oaxaca 79? Or maybe idk ordering from Alchimiaweb (anyone know if they're legit?) for USC Colombian Gold 72. Ok, moving on:

The Setup:

I'm growing "organic," with the later plants being planted in TLO soil, and the older ones in FFOF (barf), amended and cooked. I'm using Earth Juice as liquid ferts, maybe every 10 days. I bubble those suckers for 24 hrs, and up them with EJ Ph Up to 6-6.5 Ph. I'm using an RO system for water.

I have two 4.5' x 4.5' x 6' tents, one running straight 1000w MH (stretch control), the other is 600w HPS, with 6500K cfls for a total wattage of 784w of light. I am planning on adding IR and UVB reptile lights for dawn/dusk and midday equatorial sun spectra. Also, I want to add a 330w CMH to the 1K tent, dial the 1K down to 500w, and maybe a smattering of CFLs for side lighting. But on to the present.

The Status (So Far):

I'm 8 weeks into flower in Tent 1 with 1 Panama, 2 CG, 2 El Dorado (look, they swear it's Oaxaca Landrace), so I've got a solid month, minimum, left for all of that tent.

Tent 2 is all over the place. One Oaxacan IBL is a month into flowering, one is a bitty sprout, two Thai were transplanted to 5 Gallon fabric pots (all I use), filled with TLO, and flipped to 11/13 last weekend after recovering from Top #3. Another Thai just was transplanted to TLO, but I flipped her 2 weeks ago, no topping, just want to get a bun in the oven! in addition, I have 2 Thais vegging with a right good topping in their immediate future. Finally, I have a 2 Panamas that just started bud production a week or so ago. Oy, I swear I will keep it all straight.

I just love it when I see someone grow organic.

hey bio, thanks for popping in. generally, i just use regular seeds, but, the Oax is only available feminized. I was after the strain more than anything else, as there aren't many Mexican landraces from which to choose, much less ones that hit my parameters.

as far as WOS is concerned, yeah, lesson learned. they're crazy unreliable (i got an auto flower seed in my regular CG pack), the strains seem weak genetically, and most nanner at 8 weeks flowering. like clockwork. i'm toying with getting CBG Punto Rojo, as it's the easiest to get and so far, Ace and CBG have been frickin rock solid. i just harvested a Pakistani girl from CBG's stable, and not a single hiccup in that grow.

i don't know if i have any grand plans for the Thai babies. if i get a male, i will totally save that pollen. but that's the case with all of my landraces. i get antsy during the summer, so i'm sure i'll get project minded and start breeding.

toodles!

Just by the look of that CG at 8 weeks I can tell that's not real Columbian Gold. I can vouch for USC though, their Double Jam is one of the best I've ever grown. Trip weed, as defined by our resident trip weed hunter Thaibliss (and friends) here. My review of DJ is in there somewhere btw ;)

I really like your project, it's the kind of thing I like to do as well. Except my setup isn't nearly as nice :)

I like Mexicans the most, with their complex highs yet reasonable flowering times. El Dorado is not bad at all, but Mextiza (with that Oaxaca 79) and Chimera's HMxBB are in a league of their own. I haven't tried Esko's Mexicans yet, mainly because everything I've grown from him tasted weird. I'll be interested to read about your results with that one in particular!

hey mostlyme, thanks for the visit! i think i've seen you around in other landrace forums; i know there are a decent amount of us out there. the kind of guys who try to track down a pile of bagseed and would pay top dollar for it!

also, thank you for compliments. my secret? an inhumanly tolerant fiancee. and i've put this together over the last year. since my first grow of Nirvana's Maui Waui and Dutch Passion's Durban Poison lol! you wanna talk about fake landraces. i was a noob, what can i say?

the whole WOS situation has left a bad taste in my mouth, and i haven't even smoked their shit yet. i like to try as many "landrace" seeds as i can. it can't hurt, and if the bud ends up working, fuck it! i've been getting a "maui waui" from a spot closeby that is no way a pure semi-tropical sativa. but it helps, i just happened to find it while looking for the real deal. which i now know will almost never show up at a club. no "bag appeal."

but i'm also wising up in my sourcing and researching. there's a couple off eskobar-level breeders, and some outliers, but i keep coming back to Ace and CBG. they're smart, they do a good job, and they know there are growers who will go way out of their way to grow quality genetics.

i am also considering USC's ColJam; not a single pheno strain, but an interesting combo that's easier to get than CG '72. no rush, i'll have my hands full with the Thai Stick and Guatemala. those came with a lot of caveats from Charlie, so i'm not taking these strains lightly. Guatemala specifically is described as being happy, so i'm willing to put in the extra work.

i figured there might be a fair amount of folks interested in the esko Oaxacan, so i made a point to include it. so far it's a light odor strain, medium-leaf, not too fussy. by all means, please pop by again to follow the progress. i will say i planted another seed alongside the one in flower, and it grew really funky leaves. considering i have limited space, i chucked it. mercy is for the WEAK!

oh yeah , here's some more pictures. film school didn't quite prepare me for bud glamor shots, so feel free to chime in with any bud porn tips.

Oaxacan bud at 4 weeks flower

My frowny looking TS-B. I've watered her since, but she's overall been the black sheep so far.

More vibrant TS-C

The oxacan is one of the best sativa's ive come across many moons ago for
passing down or over superb flavours in a cross;

I gave this same tip to a Australian new breeder and he found the same deal fixing his earthly musky haze plants with flavour like a mixed cocktail of jungle fruits, too many to name; - was hoping id have got a thank you for that but a lot of the new guys are more about Ego and use the I this or I want , I will , I , I , I, me me me becomes peoples down fall in the end, - when we use I a lot its Ego pure and simple.

I use a lot of I's, what can I say? hehe Interesting lineup. I am running the Oaxacan and Jalisco, plus the Jarilla from CBG. Mexicans were the most visually trippy for me and am going back to my roots to see if the magic is still there. Most upbeat too I think.

We might be bros from different hos or something like that. I will say the magnesium supplements have helped with my mental condition. CALM is the powder I use. Hydration is important too.

yo yesum! i'm getting all the landrace heroes. well, thank you for the tips, i do take a calmag supplement. and i regularly water myself till it comes out the bottom, good to go.

how do you like the jalisco and jarilla? have you already run them? i keep trying to like draw a line, and stop buying more seeds, but the Mexicans, they tempt me. and Colombians by competent, conscientious breeders. i'm running a WOS "wild thai," i won't devote too much time to that. but if it's remotely thai, my more reliable GN/Ace Thais should give me a frame of reference.

again, lesson learned with WOS *now*, but i kind of spazzed out around Christmas and bought a bunch of seeds, anything i could find that had old school landrace genetics, in the description at least hence the El D.

i found a spot called swami seeds that supposedly has Guerrero x Panama. they're one of those outliers, like the place supposedly in hawaii that sells "landrace" pakolo seeds for like $150? with not a review or grow to be found? i take an interest in that stuff, maybe i'll drop $45 and see what happens. but it's all place holder til i get ahold of whatever equatorial strains Ace and CBG put out.

I have not run any of these Mexicans so a real crap shoot. I saw the Panama over at Swami's too, did not drop the cash yet but tempting.

I trust ACE and CBG like you and would like to see them release the Oaxacan and they have a Michoacan but not likely to ever release I guess.

Sinaloa from CBG said he is going to source some sativas from southern Mexico soon I guess. There is a bit of a market for quality Mexican genetics and if a newbie smokes some, the market will increase I bet.

I have a Mangobiche in the wings, but really the Colombians I smoked way back were not up to top Mexicans. I never had Mangobiche or Punto Rojo, just the standard lumbo.

I am using white LED now and have a uvb reptile bulb. No hps if you can help it, metal halide or other white light source.

G`day SS

Strains from Hawaii morph within a cpl of seasons .
The guys grow 3 crops a year . Make seeds with the phenos that suit their climate within their own micro climate on the islands . After a few years its not the same as it used to be .

As the BOEL were there from the early 70s and their connections with Afghanistan . It would not surprise if they have been hybridising NLD with WLD in Ha for a lot of generations .

Thanks for sharin

EB .

^^ Hawaiian grown under lights or other than equator will not be the same as original. What i read from several sources. Hoping the Mexicans will not be so finicky and I can get some trippy effects with quality indoor lighting.

elmer, i am mainly trying to replicate as many equatorial growing conditions as possible. as far as finding Hawaiian genetics and replicating the result, i don't have a hope. but, since i probably never had original Hawaiian weed, i technically won't miss it. i'm guessing Detroit and Chicago only had Mexican, or possibly Canadian mids to offer me.

yesum, the whole Mexican resurgence is interesting. but living in a medical state that was formerly a distro hub for cartel schwag, i can't even find crappy brown weed anymore. much less great Mexican genetics in the clubs. apparently Oregon and Washington has a bigger market for Central American weed.

anyway, yeah, i await Charlie's release of Oax '79, but only because i think i saw him say he *might* drop it in 2017. as far as Mich or Guerrero, i'm gonna assume it won't happen, then if it does, bonus.

good choices. almost jealous of thai stick, not much around anymore. of eldorado, it´s close to being pure oaxacan, acclimatized for long time. or crossed with white widow. who knows. i´ll bet you find panama as a real gem it is

alright, jay sus is here! another landrace hero, nice nice. thanks for popping by.

the thai i got straight from Ace's deep storage; they were kind enough to dig them out for me :) i'm sure if they have any more, they'd be happy to chip you off.

hey, a few questions: how did you like the WOS "wild""Thailand?" what was the high like? and that guatemala...i'm glad i'm not the only one here who has attempted it. did you grow that outdoors or in? i'm gearing up one of my tents for the high intensity light i was told to employ. not nuts about going over 1000-1100 watts in the 4x4. really not nuts about any of the electric costs, but i wants what i wants!

wild thailand was more like lame thailand. maybe too imbred and lost its strenght. guatemala wasn´t the strongest but very good psychoactivity. all my plants are indoors under leds. leds seem to be quite good for sativas. reduces the stretch a lot, and don´t seem to stress plants at all. 1000W should be ideal. but really i´m just too thick to take the easy way, best of luck, you´ll be happy and monkey ass high in the end, when ever that is

monkey ass high is the goal!

well, i can say that the WOS CG seems ok, it's stable in its' traits, kinda smells like butterscotch. but it's not true CG, i haven't been kidding myself about that. i'll have to wait a while for them to finish and cure, etc. to see if they're good on their own merit. maybe i will give some of the buds the malawi cob treatment.

maybe the guatemala really super needs a wide range of lights to even come close to its potential indoors. i can only try. they apparently need just massive amounts of photons or umoles or whatever. i read that part of Ace's description after i bought them, naturally. until i lock down the exact amount of UV the CMH lamp emits that i'm considering, i might throw a few UVB cfls in with the 1K MH. i read that a few incandescent bulbs covered with black construction paper can act as an IR emitter, or a potential arson investigation. i have a few reptile heaters/IR emitters from when it actually got normal people cold here in Cali.

which brings up the fact that i wish i could be taking advantage of the sun here, which isn't exactly like the equatorial sun my strains would best grow in, but 33N in a mediterranean climate ain't too shabby.

but nope. i'm mostly worried about rippers and the biblical level of insect pestilence in my neighborhood. seriously, once july rolls around, they form a legion of doom pact. aphids, thrips, spider mites (the joker of the cannabis pests), i had slugs, leaf miners, at least one fungus. this was on my san marzanos last summer. once the mites showed up, i packed it in, never to touch that plant again.
