Pissed off UC

As the title states....I'm pissed off.
I made a DIY (Vegging only)12 site UC using black 5 gal buckets, 1.5" Uniseals. Thinking I couldn't go wrong with the 1.5" seals.....Fucker leaks.

Something told me not to use round buckets....

Anyway WHAT is the maximum size of uniseal you can use on a round bucket?

I would use square but how the hell do you use a round 6" net pot on a square bucket? IMG_3530.jpg

Thanks guys. I like the bulkhead idea but all ready bought the seals. Guess I got to HD or Lowes. Where do you get the seals for those DIY bulkheads? Don't remember seeing them in the electrical conduit section.

Overbudjet; that works great for larger square totes but have any ideas for the 5 gal round buckets?

OK, because of the size hole I all ready cut (2.5") for the 1.5" uniseals, I am just going to go buy some square buckets and throw the round one out.

I can not find any seals locally and when all is said and done with ordering some, I would of bought my square buckets. So that is the route I am leaning towards.

Does anyone know where to get some square BLACK 5 gal buckets on the cheap? Only ones I can find is 4gal black.

If I can't find black what do you guys wrap it in for light blockage? Or do you spray paint them? If I spray them I am thinking they will chip, but what the hell, it's not like I am going to be throwing them around.

Did you drill your holes in reverse using a good hole saw? Always drill plastic backwards.

Yes, If you look at the first picture it is a brand new Milwaukee. and I did it in reverse for a couple but went real slow forward for the rest.

I have read that uniseals actually work better on round surfaces. Are the buckets you drilled in reverse leaking along with the ones you drilled forward? All of my buckets leaked a bit 'til I stopped drilling forwards. Just my experience.

I know ill probably get flamed for adding this, but I think the title "pissed at uc" warrant this reply..
I love the idea of rdwc, my experience goes as follows.
I built a 6 site per blazeoneup's instructions, water chilled, and despite terrible drainage and circulation, I yielded about .9g per watt first run. Super, but the system overflowed a few times, and it was just a pita all around, so I tore it town.
I built a 6 site water chilled biocave as per bigtokes instructions. It was amazing. Things grew triple speed, up until they didn't, and they died. Despite being constantly advised by my grow mentor to switch to single cell units as he has done very successfully for a decade, I spent an entire year of my life fighting off pathogens and replacing gear without a single harvest. I loved my waterfall, and my o2, and I DONT enjoy the extra work that comes with single cell as I struggle with sciatica. Me AND my back miss the HECK out of rdwc, but since I switched to single cell 7 gallon buckets, nothing but good news.
Also love my floating water level indicators. No holes in the buckets=no leaks. :)

Those 7 gal buckets round? or square?
Been doing hydro in few different systems...ain't about to quit doing multi buckets.

I don't know which ones where drilled backward or front. All mixed up now.
I am going to take this system apart bring it down stairs and hook it up.....The whole reason for having ZERO leaks, is because it is upstairs above other grows below. Zero room for error.
I will replace system buckets with square 4 gal buckets. or 5 gal if I can find them in black.

I grow in 7 gallon round buckets. No holes. I'll submerge them in cold water when the weather gets warmer. My pumps and water chiller are collecting dust. Recirculating is where it's at if you can get viruses and pathogens in check, and you manage to make a leak proof system. I'm all for it, it just hasn't worked in my environment. Also really frustrated throwing out improperly drilled buckets, expensive bulkheads and of course, mopping up countless gallons of water. If you are trying to do rdwc on a 2nd story I would definitely invest in a pool liner of some sort as a safety net. Sh*t happens.

^^^ Especially if you intend to hook it up to a water line on a float valve.. Endless water supply= endless water damage, should any one of your dozen seals malfunction. Pool liners are expensive but if you are going 2nd story rdwc I would think it is a must as a fire precaution.

I really really really respect and admire the guys doing big recirculating stuff, but the best smoke I have ever seen has consistently came out of single cell 5 gallon buckets attached to small air pumps, using gh 3 part half strength. This guy has been killing it, pumping out lavender 1g per watt for a decade, no pumps, no water chillers, no additives. I'm fortunate enough to get my hands on the best of the best, but this guy has consistently trumped all of it for 10 years straight. If you are prone to anger, I might try and avoid drilling holes in the bottoms of your buckets altogether, and furthermore I would recommend against rdwc. One plant gets sick, all your plants get sick, you kick your dog, everyone has a bad time.
