Humidity Is Too Low In Flower Room, Help Please!!

Ok, so here's what's up. I have a 4 kw flower room. All the lights are in sealed hoods in a sealed loop, with fresh outside air going thru them, and out of the room thru carbon filters. The room is sealed with co2, and ac.There are two flood tables each with their own res. The big table has a 100 gal. cattle trough, and the smaller table has a 50 gal cattle trough. Both res's are not covered. Even though I have 150 gals. of open water the humidity doesn't go above 36% when the lights are jamming. Even when they are off and the ac and co2 are off the humidity only gets up to 56%.
Now I think part of the problem is the furnace to the house is in the room right outside the flower room. Another shitty thing is that there is a heat duct from the furnace that goes into the flower room and it doesn't have a shutoff valve anywhere on the ductwork, I checked it real good last night. The vent in the flower room is at the bottom of a wall and doesn't have a shutoff on it either. So last night I stapled some heavy duty plastic over it( same plastic I cover everything in for reflectivity), in hopes of stopping some of the warm dry air from going into the flower room.
I know some obvious fixes for that problem would be to buy a piece of duct with a shut off, and replace a piece of the ductwork with it. But I don't know if I can afford to do that, because I don't want temps to get to low with the lights off. I don't have a lot of spare money at the moment or I would get an electrical damper control and put it on a timer.
I have a spare 50 gal. cattle trough, that I'm gonna fill with water to sit under the big table, to hopefully add some humidity to the room. I really would like to put it close to where the heat vent is, but then I would be adding warm air to a room I'm trying to keep cool during lights on. My room get's to 86 with the lights on, and that's the temp at canopy level, so it's perfect. I just need to figure out a way to get the humidity up. Buying foggers isn't an option right now, as I don't have the money for that. So any diy input on how to solve this problem is greatly appreciated!!! Almost forgot the room is 12 'x 10', with 8' ceilings.

Are you noticing growth decline with that low of humidity or something? That seems perfectly fine for flowering to me, possibly even a good thing in my experience.

You could try foliar feeding before lights off and lights on to raise humidity a bit

I too was wondering what the issue is? As that sounds like the correct range. As Surf suggests foliar feeding will raise it.

Hey Frank....Obviously all who`ve responded haven`t researched "VPD" , cuz that`s why he`s posting this question about how to treat said problem without buying foggers or any type of humidification due to lack of budget....Frank learned this down in Vert-ville.....

70% RH till end of stretch , and as low below 50% as possible till end of cycle will make yas happy guaranteed......now....

If there`s 150 gallons of juice underneath those tables without covers and you said there was room for a smaller cattle trough , put some fans pointed down at the solution be it water or nutes to agitate the surface tension and cause evaporation hopefully enough during lights on 12 hr sequence to at least getchas up to the 50 percentile and maybe more...anyways.....

As budget permits , hydrofogger . com , or the DIY foggers that Gettogro and or Bobbles came up with in each of their threads for next run will help yas up yer game......

Good luck Frank...

Peace.....DHF.....:ying:.....

Edit.....Nutrient solutions in each rez will concentrate from excessive evaporation using the fans , so ppm`s will need to be monitored....

Yeah lack of growth and a little tacoing are what's going on. Thanks DHF!!! getting rid of extra humidity if the issue arrises is not a prob, the ac doubles as a dehumidifier, and I have an extra dehumidifier just sitiing around collecting dust. I also have the option of bring in ice cold air from outside to cool the room.

So I filled the extra res I have and put a floor fan blowing across the to of it. Later today I will find out how much it helped. The Ac is on a timer that goes off when the lights go out. It also has it's own exhaust fan pulling the hot air from it out of the room. The Ac also dehumidifies while it runs. So I had the brainchild last night of shutting off the Ac altogether and turning the exhaust fan around to pull ice cold air in from outside. I think by not having the ac running and pulling humidity from the air and putting extra water in the room I might just solve my problem. If it's two much I will get rid of the extra res of water and see where we are at. If it's still too much(i.e. during lights off) I will put a dehuey in there.

hey franken, Im in the same boat,
i fired up the last of 6 1000w lamps last week and my rh went from hi 50s to mid 40s.
I got my garden sprayer last nite and misted all the plants....everything
they loved it and by the time i sprayed 3KW worth my Rh was in the mid 60s and climbing.

this will work great till my humidifier comes in

If what you've tried already isn't enough, try adding 2-3 hand towels draped over the sides (half in the water, half out), these will act as a wick. In combination with the fan blowing on them it can put a decent amount of water in the air. Add more or less towels to control humidity levels.

I just sprayed again and did the floor extra good, Rh was 81% when i left
but with fans blowing and 6000w's of heat i don't think it'll last for more than an hr or 2.
I decided wet towels or sheets on the floor out of the way of 6 ocillating fans would last a lot longer

and mister D is already on it
excellent idea with the towels wicking water from a water source :)

Came in here to to spread the word, but you beat me to it freds:tiphat:

Humidity is very important. Get that shit up!

If your room is sealed, and hopefully doesnt have a carpet floor, spray some water on the walls, ceiling, and floor where there arent plugs or bulbs or anything dangerous..

I've been having humidity issues as well in my new room, and I literally have had to go in there and spray the walls and floors every hour and a half with the lights on for the last....5 days...? And have to do so until either A.) My foggers get here or B.) Stretch ends and my room cant maintain 50%..

It's a bitch, but it is what it is. They're your babies.

Dabs on dabs, your thread is the reason I checked my humidity. I have been having problems with decreased growth and the other night I read your whole thread and it had me thinking of how to get my rh up. I will try the spraying of the walls if it isn't any better when I go later today.

well 4rs later and i was @61%, not bad at all.
i resprayed and put quite a bit on the floor.
i think 3-4 times a day and I'll be good till my humidifier comes in...

christ... i never saw this one coming!

i bought $550 worth of DEhumidifiers to take moisture OUT at nite and now have to spend $250 to put moisture back IN during lites on... a labor of love fo sure.
but coming back in after spraying and seeing the plants firing on all cylinders with their leaves pointing upwards....
ahhhhhhhhh :canabis:pure heaven

Credit goes to my bro sgapetti for that one :tiphat:. Does work though .

:woohoo: Glad people are learning from my fuck ups. Thats why I suppose we all do this after all; Learn from others and hope to avoid their mistakes.

Spraying the walls will DEFINATELY increase your humidity. I find that in my room, doesnt matter how much I spray...A little or alot, the humidity never raises above 71% unless the lights are off...

The only difference is the more i spray, the longer it stays at 70-71%...

When the fans turn on to cool my room, the humidity drops down to the 40-50% range, but jumps back up to 70% in minutes.

So, Assuming you're able to get in there a few times per day, you should be okay. Try the other methods in this thread also..They wont hurt!

Ahah, thats what I'm thinking as well. So damn worried about too much humidity, PM, mold, etc...

Not worried enough about vpd, transpiration, etc... Critical plant biological processes...

Its a learning curve ;)

which is worse... mold & its treatment, or vpd & its demands?

Best answer is neither; Keep it at 70 during veg and 50 during flower...

I dont think you have to worry too much about mold during veg (baring some ridiculous shit like 90+% Rh and no air flow could lead to PM and other nastys)..

During flower, if i had to pick one or the other, i would rather have low humidity at the expense of vpd rather than mold..Mold will flat up destroy your crop, or parts of it... on the other hand..

I've grown some pretty massive buds @40% humidity all the way through flower..

Was it ideal...No...
Did I have PM, Mold, Budrot....No..

When there is a bunch of foliage and nug in your room, your humidity will naturally increase..Maybe just a bit, but it will..

So thats my choice.
