How to get Aloe Vera Gel for Making Teas

How to get Aloe Vera Gel for Making Teas

Steps to harvest Aloe Vera Gel for making teas with or your own gel for sunburns or as a nutritional supplement.

1. Buy an Aloe Vera plant or snip a branch from a friend or family members plant. Some grocery stores sell it: wallmart and asian grocers etc.

2. Wash your hands. This is to make sure the gel isn't contaminated.

3. Slice off an outer leaf of an aloe plant. *A Fillet knife works well for those fisherman out there...

Optional Steps for Aloe Vera Gel

Optional Steps for Aloe Vera Gel

Now you can use the Aloe Vera Gel after step 4 for teas and nutrition, but for those curious minds out there, here is how to preserve the gel for making a topical cream:

6.Add these ingredients to preserve the gel naturally. For every 1/4 cup of aloe leaf, add:

-500 mg powdered vitamin c (you can crush tablets into powder)
-400 IU vitamin E

7. Place in a sterilized, clean glass jar. Will keep for several months in the refrigerator.

8. Apply several times a day to cuts, wounds, or burns/skin irritations.

Tea Recipe:

3L of non-chlorinated RO water
1/8 cup of Aloe Vera Gel
1/2 tsp of Kelp Meal

24 hours in my tea brewing container with lots of aeration. Not for aerobic bacterial growth, but primarily just to keep things stirring around... :blowbubbles:

* I just started using this but I've seen noticeable results after each useage. I have observed root growth and something the leaves do. Some people have told me is called "praying hands" symptom - something that I would love to learn about..

Warnings:

- Aloe may be consumed orally but never consume too much; it has a laxative effect.
- Always use clean hands to transfer the gel from the jar to your face and body.
- Stabilised aloe vera is not a substitute for fresh aloe vera gel.
- Aloe Vera tastes gross, but great for plants and humans.

You can also find this nutritional supplement for Lily of the Desert. Suitable for humans and plants

Are you adding the Aloe tea to your soil or as a foliar spray?

Soil Drench.. soak em' there is also a surfactant "wetting agent" in Aloe Vera called Saponins. So it would work as a nice foliar spray to evenly cover your foliage.

also:

Saponins trigger a plant's defensive responses to anaerobic fungi like powdery mildew, black scab, et al. In general saponins have a fungicide factor as well.

Abstract from Compromised disease resistance in saponin- deficient plants.

Two specific compounds in Aloe vera contribute to the explosive root development after transplanting - indole-3-acetic acid (IAA) which is found in many retail rooting products, that and IBA. The other compound is Salicylic acid that is also found and extracted commercially from Willow tree shoots which is often cited as a rooting compound source.

There's a lot more at play with another 50 compounds specific to rooting but I thought that since these two are familiar to most gardeners it might be helpful to explain why it works.

This is one of my favorites phases of growth...

Once I take my newly rooted clones I place them in a small container similar in size to a beer cup. Then after two weeks I move the plants up to the next size of container. typically a 1/2 g to 1 g pot. This is when I give each pot a healthy broadcast of white clover seed.

As well as its benefits to soil structure, living mulch and possible nitrogen fixation, it is just beautiful to watch grow. A different sort of seas of green... notice the bennee life on the white clover roots.. some mykes at work no doubt

Another growroom design draft

Another growroom design draft

For all you loyal followers... I think I may have come a little closer tonight to determining my new set-up. I've have tossed around a ton of ideas and instead of going bigger I have decided to use the gear I have in the most efficient manner. keep it vert and keep it cool...

I still can't throw up a permanent structure until our building inspection in the near future, but this is what I think it will look like... :dance013:

The layout will be 50" x 84" x 108" = 250 cubic feet / TEMP by the plants holding at 24.5c/76f without any Air Con

"Just imagine taller plants and maybe a vertical sea of green design..." I can shorten the distance between the lights and bring the plants closer or and in the day time I can shuffle them all downwards and put the vegging plants back with the mix to soak up some strong rays and fill in some of the void. Right now since we have had a considerable downtime because of the building reno, I have to have a cycle of meds finish asap so I didn't have the luxury to veg them all to the correct height. *sigh next cycle

TECH SPECS: I went back to using 2 cooltubes with their own carbon filters and they are connected with a "T" and sent via a 333cfm (before loss) mixed flow fan for a short distance outdoors... Then I have two dimmable ballasts turned down to 400w (HPS) and 250w (mh) = 650w's to keep heat a minimum and to be able to keep the plants closer... I also have a 100 cfm fan pulling air from the top of the room. I think I might buy a small LED and have it on my 6ft light mover over on side of the grow room.

*Don't mind the sound proofing.. it may look ugly but it works.. :) I have over 50ft of soundproofing to add once we get the go ahead to rebuild..

attachment.php

And last but not least.. since I'll have extra space to fill for the meantime before I veg taller bigger plants.. I've added some non-canna plants like this Kale Plant... mmm good

The Nerdatorium is about to get a little more techy...

We are welcoming a gift from Mrs. Chiefs father with open arms. An Apollo 20 a four foot 700w / 3w LED grow fixture. oh yea...

Since it gets expensive providing free meds this will help boost some of our yields and take our grow to the next level... we just have to wait for our boat from asia. :)
