Bangarang rufio.... bangarang.. haha do you like the HOOK reference?.. yea you do... :p I received my ill-prepared quiz results today

I thought with my lack of preperation, that I would do poorly on my quiz... but 80% isn't bad for not being 100% committed to studying this past week. :p Once this reno and permit inspection is over next week I'm stoked to redesign my room and have all of you help. :)

bring on the light mover

bring on the light mover

Well I was gifted a small (4-6ft) light mover from one of my bosses. Who doesn't smoke or grow. He just acquired it from someones debt repayment. lucky us. I think he'll bring it to me tomorrow so I can take pictures to share with the group.

I have been so blessed by so many ppl lately that I feel indebted to them. life has been good for poor mrs chief and I. Thank you to all our friends and followers (soon to be friends) for all your continued support. We appreciate and care for each and everyone of you.

NOW here's the dilemma.... how do I incorporate a light mover with a vert system? or is it even possible... I think I might be going back to horizontal. :p

check out marlo's yo-yo light mover modification. it is f'n sweet. i think anti's thread has some pictures of it buried in there somewhere too.

from what i remember, you add pulleys to the ends of the light mover track. the center of a long cable is attached to the moving part of the light mover, and each end is attached to a lamp (via the pulley). when you turn the light mover on, the lights move up and down at a distance equal to about half the length of your light mover rail.

Fudge yea!!! Heady. That system is way beyond what I thought of... totally awesome. It seems very simple and very effective. I can't wait to see what kind of rail system it is so i can know now if this is possible. but you probably found my new system :) more to report later...

PS I almost forgot: I bought some DE today to add to my soil recipe... oh yeah... can't wait to deliver it to my commercial site and get it to use.

Things are in shambles at the production site. Everything was disassembled for an upcoming inspection and my poor ladies have put up with a lot of shit lately. I'm glad their tough and holdin' in there. We all know the future holds great things.

Here is a quick shot of the messy room. Soon it will be reborn into the next evolution of our grow room. growroomus maximus

waiting waitn waitn hehehe this reno is a balllicker... It seems impossible to get it started. A flip flop of schedules has lead to us still sitting dismantled and it appears we will continue with this process for at least 2-3 more weeks. ugggh.... There are only 3 in flower and the rest are all stashed in the 2x4 veggin' under a 400w. I have all the venting and ducting issues handled. but still need to buy a fan - decided to save for a couple weeks and get a better quality 400-700cfm fan to take care of business.

sorry for the lack of updates... I completed exams last week and summer is in full effect.

good times... glad to hear you care ;)

I'm backkk

I'm backkk

Well... school done for the season, work is easy, saving for new equipment to upgrade our ventilation, waiting for one more quick reno and then finally our last permit inspection in the coming weeks .

then we'll be free to rebuild from the disaster currently known as our grow space. :dance013:

But in the meantime due to some helpful inspiration from all of you, I will be posting some info for all us nerds to devour...

:woohoo:

Reno be damned, I need someone to tell me what to read!

..So's I can read it and pretend to know what it meant, just enough to keep up in conversation, while I'm secretly re-digesting it from all y'all.

Aloe Vera Botanical Tea

Aloe Vera Botanical Tea

I was inspired by some info a fell across in the Living organic soil from start through recycling thread. and the spawn of this knowledge is my first experience with Aloe Vera botanical tea...

Scientists have found over 150 nutritional ingredients of Aloe Vera. Imagine picking up a bottle of nutes and reading all of these....... you could market it to those masses for lots of that useless paper stuff

from CCoots
The ten main areas of chemical constituents of Aloe vera include: Amino Acids, Anthraquinones, Enzymes, Minerals, Vitamins, Lignins, Monosaccharide, Polysaccharides, Salicylic Acid, Saponins, And Sterols.

Amino acids found in Aloe vera include: Isoleucine, Leucine, Lysine, Methionine, Phenylalanine, Threonine, Valine,And Tryptophan. Some Of The Other Non-Essential Amino Acids Found In Aloe Vera Include Alanine, Arginine, Asparagine, Cysteine, Glutamic Acid, Glycine, Histidine, Proline, Serine, Tyrosine, Glutamine, And Aspartic Acid.

Enzymes include Amylase, Bradykinase, Catalase, Cellulas, Lipase, Oxidase, Alkaline Phosphatase, Proteolytias, Creatine Phosphokinase and Carboxypeptidase.

Aloe vera also contains Vitamins B1, B2, B3, B5, B6, and B12 along with Choline, Calcium, Magnesium, Zinc, Manganese, Chromium, Selenium. Additional elements found in Aloe vera include Copper, Iron, Potassium, Phosphorus, And Sodium.
from: Chemical constituents of Aloe Vera
Other constituents of Aloe vera would include prostaglandins, tannins, magnesium lactate, resins, mannins, proteins such as lectins, monosulfonic acid and gibberlin.5
The next elements of Aloe vera we will discuss include monosaccharides and polysaccharides. Monosaccharides contain the simple sugars which include glucose. The polysaccharides are the more complex long-chain sugars involving glucose and mannose or the gluco-mannans. These sugars are ingested whole from the stomach. They do not get
broken down like other sugars, and appear in the bloodstream in exactly the same form. This process is known as pinocytosis. Once in the blood stream, they exert their healing and immuno-regulating effect. Some of these polysaccharides are not absorbed but stick to certain cells lining the gut and form a barrier preventing absorption of unwanted material so helping to prevent a leaking gut syndrome. The sugars are also used in moisturizing preparations.44

One polysaccharide, acemannan, is known for its ability to restore and boost the immune system by stimulating the production of macrophages and improving the activity of T-Lymphocytes by up to 50 %. Acemannan produces immune agents such as interferon and interleukin which help to destroy viruses, bacteria, and tumor cells.45 Acemannan improves cellular metabolism by normalizing cellular function and regulating the flow of nutrients and wastes in and out of the cells. It knows how to destroy parasites and fungus.
Aloe Vera is actually the first plant I ever tended that is still around today. :) and I can't believe I haven't heard of Aloe Vera tea for plants (let alone for humans!).

So here is my recipe:

3L of non-chlorinated RO water
1/8 cup of Aloe Vera gel harvested by Mrs.Chief
1/2 tsp of kelp meal

Aerated and stirred thrice for 24hrs... not much smell in the final product and I used it as a soil drench and foliar spray on all my young plants. *note: you don't have to aerate, you can just stir.. aeration just keeps things moving. :p

:blowbubbles:
and so far the plants are loving their aloe vera soil drench and foliar spray. even though they are in their temporary home in the 2x4 400w tent location. we will be watching their progress closely.

Nice thread!

RE: Aloe vera information as it relates to Botany

As you've seen already, using Google, Bing, Yahoo with the text string 'aloe vera agriculture fertilizer' is a fool's errand. Too many blogs, forums, advertising blab sheets, etc. Try this science search engine: SCIRUS.com - no blogs, no forums, nada - hard science from universities, research centers from literally every continent around the world. 95%+ is peer-reviewed research.

Australia is #3 in Aloe vera production behind China & Mexico. This plant is a bio-nutrient accumulator on the level of Kelp, Comfrey or Alfalfa. Meaning that it's used as fodder for livestock and the research in the sciences of Botany and Soil biology out of Australia is some of the best available.

It kinda goes like this:

Aloe vera - Australia
Comfrey - England (where the Bocking series was developed by Lawrence D. Hills)
Stinging Nettles - France

Mineralization - Remineralize The Earth - incredible repository of research, information, suppliers, etc.

The Seaweed Site - Dr. Michael D. Guiry, Marine Biologist based in Ireland

Here's another good one to play with from USDA

Simply type in the Element or Secondary Metabolite you're interested in and a list of plants will come up with the highest concentrations. Each one of those plants will have a link where you can see all of the elements (cited in ppm) and 'some' of the major compounds (Secondary Metabolites)

Use Phosphorus for your first test run - LMAO

Here's my favorite - WSDA Fertilizer Database (Washington State Department of Agriculture)

You can search by Product Name (highly recommended) or by the Registrant which can be a nightmare.

For example if you were to Search under Registrant for 'Fox Farms' you would not find anything. But if you searched for Fox Farms Big Whatever under Product Name then you would hit the listings for United Compost & Organics - the name of the controlling company.

Another example would be Botanicare that is licensed under that name but also American Agritech but at the end of the day you'd discover that the real owner is Sun Light Mfg. which one of the troika that controls the indoor garden store industry along with Hydro-Farms and NGW (National Garden Wholesale). This explains the 'why' that Botanicare took front stage at the stores supplied by these guys - it's an 'in house' brand. Along with Sunleaves, et al.

You could also try and figure out how a 'Canadian' company called Advanced Nutrients is domiciled in Brandenburg, Kentucky.

Fun stuff like that.

When you find a product you want to look at what you'll find are the 'heavy metals' that are found in this or that bottled gunk along with the actual percentages of the synthetic chemical compounds that are used.

Look at Miracle Grow Organic Soil - you'll see that there are 2 products with a very slight difference in the goofy NPK numbers. Look at both and on one you'll see that bio-sludge is used on one 'organic' potting soil but it is not listed on the other one. Again it's this difference: .10-.05-.10 vs. .1-.05-.05 and the first one uses bio-sludge and the second one does not.

It's better than watching re-runs of American Idol!
