The dub-tube...

The dub-tube...

so I wanted to boost my efficiency of my 600w and cut down on some of the heat on these super hot summer days...

So I'm back to vert baby... This time I made a quick adjustment..

I notice that 2x cooltubes were too long, but I didn't want to use just one... So I did what any keen minded grower would do... modify a single tube and use the parts from two to make a single 1000w double tube!!

A drilled some handy holes, moved some gear and PRESTO... problems solved.. I still need to build some handy platforms to set the plants at the correct height.

Enjoy!

Beautiful! Are you going to be growing trees, or will you have multiple levels?

I'll be doing a damn-near thing next time - two bulbs - one 600w, one 400w. But, with two levels.

What are your temps like in there with that setup? (Remind me, por favor - are you all set with the new bitchin' exhaust?)

I've placed the bulbs close enough together that I will build a single level but it will vary in height. I'll have medium plants and tall ones. If I keep the veg to a minimum, I should have everything under control.

An average of 5 plants x 4 staggered cycles should keep me busy. I still need to build a structure around it and build the platform, but this is a start back to where I left off.. with a little improvement...

Temps: this week is HOT HOT HOT week here and the temp inside and outside the building is 30c/86f-36c/97f during the day and 75f in the mornings. My room is holding up better than that... with ZERO air con it seems to handle itself well... after the lights have been on for 4 hours I have only seen an increase in temp from the morning temp of 75f to 82f with 1000w of lights... So I will continue to monitor the temps throughout the day and the night and tomorrow I will design a schedule for my air con to come on. maybe for a half hour every 2 hours... but that should do it. until awesome Mr.Winter returns.

Recently I was running a horizontal 600w and I have to have my air con on 50% of the time. Now I've taken my savings and added more light at a more useable angle... that's what I would consider a super awesome trade

as for the exhaust fan... I still haven't bought one... the work of the reno is done and we are now waiting just for an inspection. I honestly didn't want to buy a bunch of equipment in case we ran into an issue or two. :) best prepare for all options. The 330 cfm mixed flow fan is working well now though. and once I build a structure around it, the fan should be fine with the low cubic feet in the room. I did happen to solve my fresh air issue. before I was starving the girls of vital fresh air so I have opened a few holes and added a few DIY Co2 jugs of sugar/yeast and I have seen a noticeable change in growth. Much happier plants. but that might be due to my new grasp of tea knowledge...

my tea cycles now go: ALoe Vera tea, Alfalfa/kelp Tea, compost/molasses tea and I have started using straight Mycomaximum/molasses and brewing my own legion of specific helpers... like mykes and Bti. Ive also recently treated my vegging plants to a fungicide to battle some of the pm that was kicking around from the previous cycle... all plants are loving their healthy new lives

Lookin' good dude - but remember, you really ought to be growing 4-5' plants to maximize that column o' light you're working with..

My plan was to do a single level of taller plants, with two stacked 400s, .. I realized that considering the veg required to finish with 5' plants, it's really best if I just cut that time in half(ish) and essentially run two single 400w vert grows, one atop the other.

heady has for shore shown that you can crank out some yield and quality with a 400w vert bulb in a space just 22" tall.

Anyway, just hoping you maximize the use of the column-o-lumens you'll be working with.. :D I didn't, so I kind of slunk down to just utilizing two levels.. :)

two levels.. why the heck not.. experience is king...

and all my hybrid cultivars are stretchers. so 4 ft should be no probs in future cycles.

Sweet Skunk - Easy to grow tall
Silver Kush - Easy to grow tall
Chem4 - Super Easy to grow tall
Garberville Purple K - unknown
BC Hashplant - unknown
Mystery Blue (diesel?) - needs longer veg, just like the bchp and gpk to reach the appropriate heights
SHROM X ECSD - should no doubt be a tall sexy lady

I will make sure all the plants are happy happy happy.

Just like Mrs.chief puffin on her Silver Kush and Sweet Skunk, then of course she gets sleepy sleepy sleepy.. but thats a whole other story.

Just something to consider - I'm sure you'll finger it out as you go along..

It's actually fairly impressive, the vertical sort of footprint covered by a single vert bulb.

SilverH: meaning that I will only need one bulb on mainly?... I was thinking of maybe stagering the bulb start times.. have the 400w mh on for most of the day and then during peak hours turn on the 600w and then have the 600w turn off later in the day to simulate a halfassed sunset? or at least a cool power saving technique. since the coverage is ballin with just one bulb

veg edition:

Since I've made a commitment to going vert.. my veg room must also make a change... It wouldn't make much sense to veg horizontally and then bloom vert... so I made some quick temporary adjustments... the cfls have a bit more "red" to encourage stretching and when I'm at the rental space I can take them out and put them behind the flowering plants to slowly adapt..

Chief - I'd say you'd need 4-5' tall plants to really make full use of the footprint created by two vertical bulbs. Since I'm too ADHD to wait for my plants to veg that long, I've decided to just do two levels of ~ 24" plants..

And after all, why not MORE plants? :D

Agreed on the tall plants SH. I'm actually only using the one 600 dimmed to 400 right meow. I'll redesign a second platform for more plants as well.

:grouphug: We've all talked about it: and everyone's welcome in on the circle :smoke out: hehe

PS I'll have to admit my head is really wrapped up in studying Hermetics (Hermes Trismegistus) and magic (Franz Bardon)... and combined with this thread I haven't been putting to much effort into the redesign quite yet... once the inspection is over in the near future you'll see me kick some serious butt on a new design...

hi-ya :whee:

Thank you everyone on your votes for the current GROW Of THE MONTH CONTEST as well. much love :flowers2:

Oh and Blumats are on the wayyyy...

Cannabis-like Brain Chemical Blocks Out Bad Memories

Cannabis-like Brain Chemical Blocks Out Bad Memories

logo_main_final.jpg

http://www.scientificamerican.com/article.cfm?id=cannabis-like-brain-chemi

Some memories, particularly those evoking fear or pain, are best forgotten. But just how the brain squelches unpleasant recollections is unclear. Now findings published today in the journal Nature suggest that natural chemicals similar to the active ingredient in marijuana help mice wipe out traumatic memories.

Giovanni Marsicano and Carsten T. Wotjak of the Max Planck Institute of Psychiatry in Germany and their colleagues trained mice to associate a tone with receiving a shock. Once the actual shock was removed, normal mice eventually forgot their previous experience and came to realize that they need not be afraid of the sound anymore.

Mice engineered to lack receptors for cannabinoid brain chemicals, in contrast, continued to fear the tones, suggesting that they were unable to put the negative experiences out of their minds. The team next treated normal mice with a drug that blocks cannabinoid receptors in the brain and discovered that the animals had a similar difficulty forgetting bad memories.

The scientists suggest that in order to erase an unpleasant memory, the body's innate cannabinoids flood the amygdala, the brain's fear center, and inhibit the action of nerve cells. According to Pankaj Sah of the Australian National University, "Drugs that target these molecules and their receptors could be useful new treatments for anxiety disorders." Such drugs would have to stimulate cannabinoids solely in the amygdala, unlike smoking marijuana, which floods the entire brain indiscriminately, among other effects.
