100% Organic Coco Coir plant shots

In the organic coco coir thread it was requested that I post some pictures up of my results of using 100% coco coir mixed with worm castings, perlite, and other organic ammendments like bat guano, greensand, sheep manure, Fox Farms POM 5-5-5, FF Marine Cuisine)

EDIT: Keep in mind, all of my plants are under a single 430W HPS light that is about a year old.. Im planning on adding a lumatek 600W digital to my flowering room sometime soon so my buds might be a whole lot bigger soon.

Theres a C99 x Eucalyptus F2 smoke report in the smoke reports section of the forums. Its a neat one for sure.

BR1947 is one of my favorite strains ever, and its a pleasure to grow.. and smoke!! here's what was in her pot:

2 1/2 gallon pots

bottom 1 inch consisted of the following:

base+
1/2 part sheep manure
1/2 part worm casting
1tsp high P guano
1/2tsp POM 5-5-5
2tsp blood & bone mixture
1tsp greensand
1tsp lime

then there was 4 inches of just base. i set root ball on that, with 1tsp mycorhizae powder and filled in sides with base.

I put two small spikes about pinky sized holes with about a half tsp of marine cuisine. Near sides of pot and fairly low, so that the roots dont hit it right away.

the base I am referring to is as follows:

15 litres of coco coir puffed with seaweed water
2 cups sheep manure
2 cups worm castings
1 tsp marine cuisine
6L cactus potting mix (sandy)
3L bark chips
8L perlite

Sounds like a well tuned blend of various amendments to help the coco out, like perlite, bark chips, and greensand. The greensand will likely help the coco by providing a good stable source of potassium, and it is alkaline like lime but softer and more bioavailable over the long run. The coco ratio you've made is at 44% coco.

15 Liters coco,
8 Liters Perlite,
6 Liters Cactus Mix (Sandy),
3 Liters bark chips,
2 Liters organic fertilizer ammendments.

44% coco,
22% perlite,
20% cactus mix,
10% bark chips,
4% organic fertilizers.

The true challenge is growing in 100% coco, 100% organically. As hot animal feeds cannot be dumped into the soil blend at once, a stable veggy and flowers tea blend may prove more stablility and flexibility. And then it holds alot of water, so the water has to be perfect and not cause damping off. It would only be easier if using a pre-bottled nutrient line like Bio Canna. Whichever feed it is is would have to be diluted and continuous feeding at a light water level not too saturated. And with the high cationic exchange capacity of the coco, we don't want to throw all or any of the elements in and then off at any one time so various amendments are added to help.

it does not really taste or smell like eucalyptus no.. very unique and elusive taste and smell.. hard to describe, really.

Umm, sounds close I guess? hehehe my mix is constantly changing though, i recently added about 15 litres of organic peat/humus/compost/perlite potting soils to my tote of mix, and I have been recycling my coir. Each time I grow I end up doing it different, most stuff is just eyeballed now, no specific measurements.. learning all the time.. but I really like coir, its great stuff.

so where's the 100% coco plants at? The mix you are using is about 50/50 coco and other soilless components. With the addition of 15 litres of organic peat/humus/compost/perlite potting soils you're not even 50/50.To make a blanket statement saying you can use 100% coco with organic additives is false and misleading. You are not using 100% coco.

that's exactly what i was trying to explain on the other thread. there seems some confusion between using coco as a supplement to your organic earth mix, or using pure coco with 100% organics. the earth mix using coco is old news, many organic dirt growers are adding coco to their mix. what would be interesting is to see a pure coco grow fed with pure liquid organics. but there is definitely more ways then one of achieving success with coco. so it's all good info really, as long as people are talking from experience, lol. we must keep the info reliable.

I say it now, because I've done it before, that coco should be left alone 100% pure. Not because I have ANYTHING against plants like these above ^. They look great, don't they? They just didn't have that full-on kick and taste you get leaving coco pure, fed with liquid organics/teas/etc. Ammended coco runs are great, no problem. You won't find me discouraging anyone from doing so. I just find it tastier, stinkier, fatter and dankier [all personal tastes] when I'm able to control tha feeds via fed to waste. Or especially in my coco DWCs.

Nice shots Nandro. How often to you feed/water the 100% coco plants? Those little pots would need water everyday with plants like that in soil snd they would hurt the yeild. Coco is amazing.

Yup, had to water every day, and when transplanted - rootmass was beautiful and boundless. 5 inchers are amazing for keeping coco moms in tight spaces. Of course, you can go larger - just my experience.

Yup, coco is amazing. I'd marry it if it were legal. Misses wouldn't like that, though.

TW & SDW were in 5 galloners, Bullrider was in a 3, but normally I flower in 5s.

Here's those 5 incher square mommas... In coco I got 'em dialed in so quick in veg, these moms produced about 100 clones a week when they got a bit bigger than what these pix show [they were only at around 20 days veg here]. Outstanding.

Yall makin me blush, they were actually a bit hungry and cal/mag defecient in those pix, but thanks a lot.

One hundred+ a week EASY. Supercropped, LST'd, fim'd, multiple toppings, you name it - I train it.

Fed everything from Marine Cuisine, EWCs, Guanos, etc. to as-close-to-organic liquids as well, such as Fox Farm Grow Big [i know i know organic-BASED]/Big Bloom, PBP Grow/Bloom, Canna [on tha Urkle/TJ DWCs], etc. Seriously, I've tried to try as many organic and as-close-to-organics as possible and have found non-ammended, hand-fed-to-waste works greatest for me. But in my DWCs, it's such a custom setup, I can hardly explain what kind of culture I got going, therefore; I can't really get others to duplicate it, THEREFORE I'm scrapping tha whole coco DWC together and going back to containers next round. This was just another trial, but thankfully NO ERROR to it at all. I don't mind giving up on somethin' that works, especially if I find somethin' that works even better. This is coco, afterall. Very forgiving and badass medium. I have to try it all or else I don't sleep lol.

I always have perlite, chunky or tha regular kind. I'll mix it up all tha way up to 50/50 at times.

Yes, PBP all tha way [nearly all my runs get tha Botanicare line] on my pure runs. I love it. Ammended runs I just water and NEVER feed [hence tha ammendments]. MAYBE they'll get an extra kick of P or some sort of bud bloomer/booster in 12/12, but that's it. If you've read some of my earlier posts, I've even fed straight water on pure runs AND THATS IT sucessfully. Plants were ugly, yield sucked, but tha taste and quality on some of those were amazing.

They just needed some N and maybe a dose of traces/calmag. I love managing tha feeds in pure coco, compared to just plain ph'd waterings in ammended coco.

Thanks my man Slickster, keep US updated. Perlite is a must, if not, coco croutons and hydroton balls are GREAT, too for aeration.

So when you say 100% coco you mean nothing at all added to it as in the literal meaning of 100% coco?

To me that sounds like a ridiculous idea that would not work well. 100% coco with nothing else (that means not even perlite) would be way too heavy a medium and coco itself has pretty much nothing for nutrients. I do not understand why anyone would want to grow in simply coco coir..

When I say im using 100% coco coir I mean that the main ingredient for my medium is only coco coir, not a mixture of coco and peat, or top soil, or compost or potting mix. . I think we're all on a different page around here.. :\

I do not like the "tone" of this post. I catch negative vibes coming from it, but will try to excuse them for now.. my statement about using 100% coco with organic additives is not false, or misleading. That's exactly what I did. I used 100% coco coir, and I added to it organic ammendments which include perlite, cactus sand, and everything else I added. You're right, I'm not using 100% coco coir after it's had things added to it. I did not think that what you all were looking for was someone growing in simply coco coir.. to me that sounds completely silly... would you try growing in stictly peat moss? I don't think so..

ohh and the title of the thread was not 100% Coir grow... it is 100% organic coco coir...

Yes, I've done 100% coco, no perlite, no nothing. Why? Because I can. Because I must try everything. It's not my prefered method, but it works.

I posted pictures above of pure coco plants and thier's some really nice nuggage hanging off some of 'em, lol. It wasn't too heavy at all and if you've ever given it a shot - you'd know. It works, tha proofs up above. Like I said, it's DEFINETELY not my prefered method, but it's happened - and it works.

Nope, same page. I got my main ingredient - coco - plus mixtures of EWCs, Guanos, some teas, etc. Strictly Organics posted up above. With perlite, and without. I will post everything I got if you need tha proof, my brutha'. I'm just trying to prove/help/show others tha many uses of coco. I don't do organics with coco anymore, as I'm onto feed-to-waste in containers and DWCs utilizing Botanicare's line. But... originally, before coco got ahold of me, I was Mr. Organix and seriously took it a bit too serious in tha pile, but all my mixes worked for me and when I brought them over to meet coco - shit just didn't work out as planned. Liquid ferts once again for me...

You should give every method a shot. Coco has never done me wrong in tha long haul we've had together. :sasmokin:
