I bought something called the zipper - and it sucked!!! It was advertised as light proof, industrial strength etc. but it was cheaply made, far from light proof, and then fell apart halfway through the veg cycle (so i had to build a new door) =(!!! Don't know if it's the same product or not but now i'm wary of using a zipper - just use self adhesive velcro and a stapler instead =)

I use zippers on a room I made out of black and white poly, works great, but you should order 2 for every door, I use one and just walk through the slit, but 2 would make it so much better.

My Zip came with 2 to a box, I bought a couple os extras when I bought mine but still havent had to use any of the extras, thats been bout 3 years now. I also used panda plastic. They ownly cost like $11.99 for the box of 2.

I picked mine up at Lowes on clearance for 3.99 each. I got all they had. The "flanges" of the zipper are made of blue tarp material. They tell you not to cut them for length, just let the excess hang, but I cut the top of the zipper with a couple inches extra, then cinched a zip tie on it. Been working great so far, only had them about a month. Using them on black poly.

BTW, the ones I have are not lightproof- the zipper is white and glows when the lights are on. It's in my veg room so I don't care. You could make a flap over it to make it more lightproof if you needed that.

after my last grow (which is in a closet), i got tired of messing with vis queen plastic. so this grow i covered the closet opening with 1/2" foam board. i cut a big enough hole to squeeze my ass through for an opening, and got some Velcro, placed it along the opening, and fit a new piece of foam board over the hole.

works like a charm and i'm completely light proof.

Those are pretty nice looking and they look very convenient. Only downside I see is that you could make the same thing out of PVC for a whole lot cheaper, but if you want ease of setup/teardown, then this looks like the perfect match.

I also use zipper doors with black/white poly. Many hydro shops carry the light proof variety which has an extra flap to cover the zipper. Much better than the no-flap version.

when u guys say you use velcro, do you just stick a long piece of velcro to some panda film or thick plastic and use that as a removable curtain?

Late reply but I'm looking into lightproofing options and found this thread.

I'd say using long pieces is overkill. Velcro is expensive. They make coins with adhesive backs that would probably work just as well as continuous strips.

I like that foam board idea.

my zipper has been great...i reinforced it from day one though to be onthe safe side.....aluminium tape up tp the fabric on both sides....no worries....then a little flap that folds over if you want one
