There are a lot of conditions that can lead one to believe that a strain is bad and many of them don't have much to do with the actual seeds, but i have a hard and fast rule. If i pop 10 seeds of any variety from any breeder and there arent at least a couple of good females that perfom well and are a good representation of the line, then i know what the score is. If you get something of value from these type of seeds/strain it will be out of sheer luck.
I want to agree whole heartedly with JoJoancer. Too many varieties is a clue to potential problems.
"The Jugglers Rule" applies to the cannabis seed industry. Without ever an exception, a juggler's talents decrease as the number of balls he tries to juggle increases. The worlds greates juggler is an unmitigated failure if he keeps adding balls to his act. 4, maybe 5 strains is all that one breeder can appropriately develop and refine. Legitimate, trained professional seed companies,(not cannabis) assign as many as 20 team members to variety/seed development projects and the effort may take the team several years.
Its my beleif that unless the company is a cooperative such as Nirvana or Dp, or unless the company is large such as sensi, there just isnt any capacity for quality development. I tend to avoid companies with 25 strains unless there is some special circumstance that allows them to be competent. I feel its a preety good bet to conclude that a significant number of the varieties result from the simple act of dusting a female with a male and putting the seeds out the door with a mouth watering description. A few groupies later and the seeds are the hottest thing on the market.
Petrola Headstash was a god awful strain for me. Im not supprised though, reeferman should be the posterboy for the strain-a- minute philosopy
