Timing the end of flower fade is difficult. (you want this! makes the smoke smoother)

The soil base has to have just enough nitrogen to get the plant to around week 5-6 then the rest of the way is achieved by liquid ferts or top dress. This is so you have some control. If you make a super soil that continuously breaks down enough food for the plant then you have no control over a fade. Some plants fade naturally (mostly sativas) and some dont (mostly indica). But with some skill and the right timing you can get all your plants to end flower without nutrients clogging up your smoking device. Nutrients left in weed at harvest cause nonflamable black ash in your joint which puts it out prematurely and creates a harsh taste. Bud that is given a fade (or in hydro a flush) smokes with white ash, doesn't go out easily, and tastes cleaner.
