Yellow curling leaves

My plants have been growing for over a month now. I have 3 relatively healthy plants, but the older leaves are yellowing and curling up (but new growth seems fine and the grow seriously fast :))
I've attached (hopefully) some pictures to the thread to show you the problem. My setup is very make-shift right now, still have to connect the exhaust fan to a power supply and get some more lights in there, currently there is no ventilation but only 2x20 watt CFLs running.

those are AK47s in soil, vegetative state.
I water with pH 6.5 nutrients, 3/4 strength right now.
I'm guessing nutrient deficiency (didn't feed them the first 2 weeks and this started before that), pH imbalance or heat damage.... what to you think??

Another problem I'm having: algae! The soil turned GREEN within a week, that's why I have the black plastic covering them. How the f**k do stop algae growth without covering everything with black plastic?

Oh, could this be caused by drowning roots?? I didn't find perlite anywhere in this stinking country I live in, so drainage is not the best (but I drilled a shitload of holes in the coke bottles for runoff :)

ok algae will stop on its own if you dont overwater. what soil you got. they look a little nute burned from the 3/4 strength nutes what nutes you using how big is the cab ventilation could be one of the probs if it is in a small space. could definately use more info for a more educated prognosis. so what soil what nutes what size pot and what water you using if tap is it left out for the chlorine to evap and also if tap do you know the ppms could be lockout we need more info

what mixture are you using? soil mixture?

Alge comes when moisture hits the medium and does not allow to perspirate either from air or the plants means.

Using a small mixture of h202 1tsp per gallon of water will kill the alge.... another thing the way you have those blocking the top soil is bad, this is one way you got alge growth going.... another way you are killing your plants with water, that is your ONLY problem you are having.......

You are keeping them wet way too long and the top soil needs air, it's not getting enough air.......

They can recover, but it's going to take time......

How often were you watering them?
You are going to have to trim off the excess so the soil stays 1 in below the top of the coke bottles.....

Damn always teachin me something from your posts. I noticed bright green algae in my pots on my young veg plants other day didn't know what to think of it as they were being grown same exact way as last batch.

Off to war!!!!!!!! :dueling:

Thanks

Algae is 1 of 3 reasons why you shouldn't use clear containers. The other 2 are root related. Stitch and ftg are right, you need a fan in there for circulation or you're asking for problems.

Ok thanks guys. I have a fan and a scrubber already in there, just haven't had time to pick up a 9V transformer and hook it up.

About the soil, it's just some random no-name crap I picked up at a local botany store. Where I live (secret ;)) it's really hard to find supplies, no one even knows what the words hydroponics or perlite mean :(

These are my first plants ever, and given that I'm working with pretty shabby equipment I guess I'm just glad they're not dead. I did find some nutes, though (using GH grow/bloom/micro), that was a relief. My water in non-chloride all-natural, pH 8 from the tap, and a little hard (rich in minerals).

I'll try taking the plastic off tomorrow and letting them breathe better, and use H2O2 if algae comes back. Also, I may have been over-watering :p

I think everyone on here except for 40Amps started out with shitty equipment. Try to improve your op a little each grow. For example, if you can pick up an HID light, you'll wonder how you ever lived without one.
