Yahoo webmail "upgrades"...

If and when you are using Yahoo webmail and have been prompted to what they call "upgrade" their services I recommend reading the associated fine print:

Yahoo Terms Of Use said:
By clicking the button above, I certify that I have read and agreed to the Communication Terms of Service, and Yahoo! Privacy Policy. To deliver product features, relevant advertising and abuse protection, Yahoo!'s automated systems scan and analyze all email, IM and other communication content.

Yahoo said:
This technology looks for patterns, keywords, and files in Mail, Messenger, and other communications content.

Hushmail has complied with US federal requests in the past, not sure as of recently. There's also word that the corporation itself has been purchased or at least is controlled by the NSA through other entities.

Did not know about that, thanks for the info. I think they are canadian based.

sheeeit mang!
i wouldn't be surprised if THIS site was a puppet of some narcotics agency or another.

Writing a draft email and not sending it. Have the other person open the account read and delete. No email is ever sent just drafted and deleted from different Ip's. Don't know how secure could be a huge red flag or super sneeky?

maybe buy a gaming type of server or have someone you know buy one with a video game on it.. both parties could log in the game and chat under their alias'.. like one of those multiplayer war games and stuff.. You should still use code words and all..

just a thought.. any tech geeks chime in..

I'm pretty sure the emails are scanned to deliver personalized advertisements. Yahoo is probably not sharing (probably, no guarantees anymore) with the government and even if they are, they don't have the manpower to follow up everytime someone talks about weed. Probably not a good idea to discuss your huge grow ops over public email anyway :)

this shouldn't come as a surprise to anybody, but julian assange is pretty convinced that all of google, yahoo, and facebook have built in backdoors that law enforcement and intelligence agencies can use to monitor use on these sites. everyone might not agree, but i am inclined to take this man at his word about IT matters.

instead of flagging everyone who writes the word 'mop' to get a swiffer ad, it probably isn't too tough to use another set of parameters to target a different demographic and sell them a lengthy prison sentence or a disappearance.

read the article HERE.

Saw a cool movie the other day, "the Conversation".

I've concluded that someone you know will be your downfall, not some vast conspiracy machine. Avoid electronically sharing events of a deeply personal/disturbing/illegal nature.

Learn to keep your secrets, well, secret. And have an alibi.

Everything you do online is recorded. They aren't watching everyone at all times but once they have a reason they will go back and look at the history of what you have done. I agree with others that have said that they have back doors for pretty much every PGP or secured e-mail out there. Remember that after 9/11 they pretty much did whatever the fuck they wanted because of the never ending war on terrorism. They also have hardware on the main internet nodes thru out Northern Americas and pretty much all of western Europe. Take a look at the first systems they put in place Carnivore, which was later upgraded to NarusInsight. The telecommunication companies are also all compromised, which is why a lot of the groups out there have gone low tech, ie writing a note and having someone hand deliver it or called sneakernet. Yes you can go thru proxy servers, or bounce your stuff around but at the end of the day its still has to come from your pc to do so. The only thing that you could do would be a getting a bad ass wireless hacking setup and use it to hack wireless connection to get out to the internet. However, they would still get your Mac adderess of your wireless card even with IP spoofing. Basically it boils down to this, Big Brother is Watching You!
