Corona and Chimay are undrinkable to me.
The idea of the bug getting out via a lab makes sense, but that jump to a weapon is far-fetched.
It does make me wonder if a link between this outbreak and the Hong Kong riots is too timely or predictable.

true. i find it pretty plausible that it had been weaponized, with plain old human carelessness letting it escape. maybe the developers themselves did not understand its propensity for unchecked spread. "unexpected consequences". we are our own worst enemies, and ultimately will probably be the instruments of our own destruction and extinction...maybe sooner than later.

HANOI, Feb 25 (Reuters) - All 16 people in Vietnam infected with a new coronavirus have been cured, the health ministry said on Tuesday, adding that no new cases have been recorded since Feb. 13.
The last known patient, a 50-year-old man infected by his daughter who returned from China's central city of Wuhan, where the virus first emerged, has recovered and is in good condition, the ministry said in a statement.
It was not immediately clear when the last patient would be discharged from hospital.

Yeah, it's pretty shitty. I probably went 15-20 years without being sick, had a kid as soon as she started going to school I got sick and now it seems half of the winters I'm sick.
Once this shit really starts spreading in America we're homeschooling. Probably won't even have an option really. The first thing they should do is close down schools if it starts spreading.
Probably a good time to stock up on food too. That shit hit Italy and days later no food left in the grocery stores. The panic will probably end up killing more people than the damn virus. Really the CDC already says it's going to spread in America, I'm going to grow hundreds of plants if it does. The police will be way too busy to bother looking for weed.
CDC has come out today and said to prepare to stay home if needed.
I think I am ready, which means I'm not. Stuff that will get used anyways, like dog food and TP, will last to july.
Anectdotal story here folks. A friend who has 3 grandkids to take care of (thanks meth) had he and all 3 sick with the flu. All got better except the oldest has a persistant dry cough. I really like the middle kid who is a comic superhero tough and brave kid who thinks the adults at school are always lying to her, so she gets in trouble. all the time. Just like I did.
Anyways they get there at 8:30 and don't get seen until 4:00 - imagine all the germs they got just waiting. This kept him from going with me on a stocking up run. The guy is retired/disabled Navy and can't afford those kids with added problems. So I not only gave him some socking up money, but a fresh bottle of LDM-100 and for the kid with the cough bottle of the throat spray. Guy is good with electrical stuff and I need wiring done on the shops.

Say China realized that a conventional or nuclear war with the USA - would be very costly to the whole infrastructure of China - So they want to do it in such a way - that they cannot be so easily blamed - hence they release the Corona virus - as a sort of test to see how this pandemic will spread - and how it will be handled by the rest of the world - with future aims of releasing something more deadly - when they have measured the response of the first Corona pandemic - and are ready to start removing their own population - starting with the old people - and controlling births - by limiting the number of births allowed - and/or sterilizing the women/girls -
Yes - just imagine if China has the Mother of all eugenics programmes going on - whereby they wish to replace the current inhabitants with a genetically modified and engineered population who's only Mother and Father - is the state - and they will be programmed to be loyal only to the Chinese state - formed as test-tube babies in government wombs - from DNA the government might require for strength or mental capabilities - they will all be educated in government sponsored academy's - supplied only with the information they will need to do a specific job - yes - kinda 'Brave New World'ish - lol
So it won't matter to the Chinese government if a vast portion of their population is extinguished by the virus they might release - because they will already have their replacements made - to their own specifications - those that will never rebel or revolt against their parent - the Chinese state -

Why would China intentionally tank their own economy and create social unrest. It is just not logical.
Sure we can imagine hypotheticals and think about "maybes" all day long.

Maybe China thinks it is getting near to a water-shed event in its history where the state leaders will be overthrown - Just look at Hong Kong and all the demonstrations against Chinese total control there lately - If they lose control of the people - they are toast - so they devise a plan such as I have mentioned above - to contain the people with the virus's - and eventually kill off everyone who does not get the anti-virus - which will be only for a select few - who will be able to control whatever replaces all of us - like never before -
