WTF is That!!!!!!

Yesterday morning i was going to look at my plants and was walking through tall weeds when i popped into an opening of cedars. The sun wasnt really up yet but i could see pretty good.

I entered the opening and up jumped what appeared to be the biggest deer in the entire world. I had never seen anything like it - this thing had 25 points and would have weighed 800lbs. I clapped, yelled and ran at it and it just blew snot about 4' and seemed pissed. It lowered its head and waved its nasty rack back and forth. I backed up a bit and it raised its head, let out a hell of a squeal type sound and trotted away. WTF????!!!!!!

A few minutes later it dawned upon me. They reintroduced elk here about 10 years ago. I had never seen one - was that one? This is the first one ive seen. God what a creature. A rutting deer can be mean, i wonder about those things.

I am definately gonna have to beef up my cages.

lol you sure it was not a fuckin moose? That's the first thing that came to my mind after reading your description.

Reminds me of a time I was traveling thru some dark woods on an atv. Was winding down a trail, when my head lights hit a creature in the trees, and its eyes glinted. I was moving fast so only had a quick glimpse.. It appeared to be a massive SLOTH. No shit. ITs two claw like feet were hung high up in the tree as it peered around the trunk at me. I was too terrified to turn back for a second look. This critter was HUGE. Really dense fur, and had the stature of a sloth, but a big fuggin one..Theres no sloths near me as i live in north eastern USA. Freaked me the fuck out, and will never forget it.

Dont mean to jack ur spot, but just reminded me of this experience.

Sounds like it. Ran into my first (east of the Mississippi) about 3 years ago. After you've been used to seeing nothing but white-taileds it really takes an adjustment to wrap your head around it. Freaking massive animals.

Thought the Black panthers disbanded in the 70's ?
.
Elk are some big animals, feed my family all winter on the meat from just one.

If you've never seen an Elk up close you don't realize how big they are. My wife chased afew of them from the front yard one night they were eating her roses, wel she came bck in and was shocked at the size of the a good bull will be as big as a horse. If you get lucky in the fall you'll hear them bugle.

Bigfoot maybe???? I heard he likes to rip off guerrilla grow spots and uses his newfound marijuana to cure his loneliness... next time, run up and give it a hug... If I ever notice username magically disappears; I'll know you followed my advice lol

Was riding my horse a couple of weeks ago when we came around a corner and almost ran into an elk. Scared the poor horse so bad she turned around and ran almost all the way home. She wasn't used to seeing other critters as big as her! They can be huge, well over 1000 pounds.

bets are on elk

I agree. Elk are huge and the sound they make( bugle or bugling) is a pretty high pitched screech/whine, and very loud. If you live where elk are present odds are this is it. BTW, pretty lucky to see one close up, very few people do, with exception of hunters

Definitely elk...no species of deer get that big. They can be pretty pissy around the rut. That's when you gotta be really carefull. Moose are even more dangerous. Most people don't realize that moose(bull moose during rut) kill more people in North America than any other animal.
