Mayan these spectacular photographs of plants that are in such robust health, serve as testimony to both your mastery of the growing science, but also, to your superb photography skills.

Your return to the ICMAG limelight has been well worth the wait, and I am sitting here literally drooling like a demented hunting hound, at the sight of all those delectable and massive bud formations.

Your patience, in refraining from chopping trees that would indeed appear mature to the less trained eye, is commendable, because there is no way most other growers would have been able to hold back on the harvest instinct for as long as you have, as evidenced in these magnificent pictures, several of which I have taken the liberty of saving in my bud porn vault, for reference when I need to be reminded how to do it right.

Hats off to a seasoned grow-meister of formidable talent. :tiphat:

Hi, Range!! Thanks...The Purp Haze x Malawi, Super Malawi Haze and TCM x Malawi are easily over six feet...not sure if they hit 7. The photos are a little misleading, none of the plants are in the lights - thankfully!! They are closer than I would like but I'm not seeing heat stress at all. Thankfully, we have a lot of head room...my last grow's head room was maybe 6 feet...these lights are easily around 8 feet, I would say.

I may have missed the info earlier in the thread, but how long do you veg the Purple Haze x Malawi for the flip?

I am planning to grow one of them myself with 6' of head room under a 600w HPS (Gavita) and wondering how long I should veg for in anticipation of the stretch, any info would be appreciated.

Hi Range...I -um- don't remember. I can try to check into it for you but suffice it to be said that with 6' headroom you probably want to stick it under 12/12 at sexual maturity...30 days and not a lot more. OTOH, if you are planning on ScroGging you might want to go longer. It stretches mightily and the branches form branches. So, I would err on the side of trying to maintain some amount of decorum. That said, I've seen both Malawi and Zamaldelica phenos that looked like little, 2 0r 3 foot tarantulas...I don't know if the Purp Haze Malawi might kick out such a pheno. Wonderful plants but not hulking hedge bushes either. Also, growing from clone might help things be more manageable. My first attempt at PUrpHazeMalawi was under a 6' 1000K watt HPS. Somehow or other, we managed...it was not as unruly as Golden Tiger or Zamaldelica.

Hey stranger, not as unruly, you say?
Well then, at 14 wks today they've been self-defoliating for at least two weeks now not knowing what to take it out on, since soil's ok pH wise, 30lt volume and feeding biobloom plus epsom and molasses once a week... I had the same issue with an extreme Thai leaning Zam a couple of years ago...
How long did the ones you grew go?

Immaculate set up there mate!

Purple Haze x Malawi

Purple Haze x Malawi

At the time of these photos, the little darling was around 48 or so days under 12/12. And when I say under, I mean barely...this strain stretched like crazy and is currently over 7 feet. Tip o' the hat to the God of Headroom. I apologize for the photography between the intense lights and the breadth and length of these plants, it's hard to get my iPhone to play nice. Still, I hope you enjoy!

She still has a ways to go...The buds are beginning to come on and fill-in...some of 'em are getting nice and plump while still maintaining a kinda blunt spear quality.

Here she is in all her glory from a couple of days ago

Here's some details of her spires...

Panama Goddess - Harvest

Panama Goddess - Harvest

And so it came to pass that on her 70th day of 12/12, we harvested. This is kind of an experiment as I've never harvested Panama this early but I'm thinking that - the strain's harvest window has become shorter and that running her as a clone started the flowering process quicker. At any rate, trichs are cloudy with amber creeping in; scent is divine and pistils have slowed down considerably so...chop, chop...

By the time I made it to the undisclosed location, the harvest was already underway with only one of the primary branches remaining...

She's gorgeous...

This was from clone...the mother ran longer and is a positively profound experience. Deep and relaxing. I wanted to take her a touch earlier this time to compare differences in the harvest window. Can't wait for a little "us" time with this iteration. My growing partners think it smells like grape. It's a rich and fulsome scent. I get more of a deep citrus but hey!

Anyhow, enjoy!!

I don't know how I missed this thread, but I'm sure glad I found it.
Absolutely outstanding job. Everything looks super healthy. Props as well to your photographic skills. You really capture these Sativa beauties in their full glory.

Couple questions if you don't mind.

3-gallon pots with Cocco, but I see no drippers. Do you hand feed and if so how often?

Do you feed the same for everyone? You have plants at different stages of flower, yet they all look as if they are getting exactly what they need.

Last one for now, what ppm/ec do you feed at?

Again great job.

Peace GG

Real nice sativa plants man! Bravo! Can you tell us a bit about your grow techniques? Nutes? Medium? I see you have perlite in there. Is that just a soil top dress? Many people feel you need BIG pots for Sativas like these but yours seem on the small side. What are your thoughts on this point?

Nice grow brother! Beautiful plants! And props to ACE seeds.

That’s the thing with smartpot, it’s like it was double the capacity in plastic. I grow in 7 gallons smartpots and I could have plants at least as tall as me easy. Op ones looks like 5 gal?

Hi all...thanks so much for the kind feedback!!

I thought I would try to answer some questions regarding methodology. Yes...using 3 gallon Smart Pots, coco, worm castings and some type of media for aeration - currently, perlite. I have used Botanicare Pure Blend Pro Bloom and Grow as my base nutes forever. Also using Liquid Karma, Hygrozyme, Drip Clean, Silica, Cal/Mag and beneficials. Currently also using Rock Resinator as an adjunct. The plants in deep flower are generally somewhere between 1400/1500 ppm on the (500 scale)...once they start their ripening trajectory and turn the corner toward senescence, we start slowly walking the nute mixture down to somewhere between 800/900. For final flush, probably hit 200 ppms or so. We are currently handfeeding (well, we use a wand), once a day.

After years of stumbling around, I do feel that we are approaching having the coir method dialed-in, somewhat. Next grow, we are considering some changes. I very much want to try automation so that feedings happen 5 or 6 times a day. I'm also very much in favor of trying something like Jack's for nutes...leaving Botanicare scares me but I'm attracted to cheaper nute options, particularly if we up our feedings. I ain't a reductionist but I have become convinced that it's all about the ppms and not so much about the choice of nutes. We shall see!! Onwards!!

Air conditioning unit(find personally the air dry:)) for that size room,I think, with watering plants inc, keeps humidity, temps(lamps assisted) ,fans/airflow in perfect harmony. And,an air out to keep that flow constant

Eeeek...I Could Use Some Advice

Eeeek...I Could Use Some Advice

Well, all...thanks for your warm feedback, however, over the last few days, I have had a bad issue with what appears to be some kind of
nute burn. I'm open to any and all suggestions. The problem is, it seems to be moving VERY fast. Here's the situation - growing in coco coir, everything was going great. And then - the Malawi clone and Super Malawi started shoring minor nute burn. Some of the fans were getting knicked so I flushed the plants. Up until that point they were typically getting between 1300/1400 ppm, so I lowered the ppm to 800/900. Whatever...the damage started moving quickly. As you can see from the pictures, the sweet leaves are beginning to get whacked too...which creates issues when trimming.

I figure we have a few options...1) more flush and then feed weaker protocol ; 2) final flush and harvest; 3) do nothing and take care of the it during the trim; 4) consider that it is not nute burn but some kind of other deficiency or disease. The biggest concern is how quickly it seems to be moving through two plants that were totally (to these eyes) healthy a week ago. I see no indication that it is from mold. I'm at a loss.

I realize that this may be a coir problem...although the other non-Malawi plants under the same protocol are doing well. Perhaps I will cross post this in the coco section.

Yours thoughts, opinons, prayers, etc. gratefully accepted.

Did you use straight water for the flush?
I would keep flushing with lower nutrient mix till runoff is similar to the feed your putting in.
How much longer are you going to go with these?

Potassium def. shows as "burned look" at the edges on leaves, mistaken as light burn, iron def.In coco/hydro,potassium(assuming that's the problem) is best absorbed when ph 5.5-6.5
Cause, cheap nutrients and shows up at older(top) plant's leaves.Centre leaf vain remains green
Checked where I found it, shared the info

My humble contribution
:)

THanks, guys! This is helpful. Some responses/ponderings

They are both nearing 11 weeks, the Malawi clone is nearing 11 weeks, the SuperMal is just over 71 days of 12/12...I'm in favor of trying to soldier on but if they came down at this point, it would not be unduly catastrophic. OTOH, I don't want the sweetleaves/buds to get further compromised

I didn't use plain water for the flush...it was very light nutrient mix maybe 300/400 ppm (on the 500 scale). At this point, the ppms are 800/900 on the 500 scale...down from 1300/1400. I can also see that it may not be overnute at all but a possible potassium deficiency. I should add that most of the damage has been near the tops and tips of branches. I need to check whether that's where potassium shows up. Then, the meta-question becomes, what caused the deficiency...it would have to be some kind of lock-out, as the plants have been getting plenty of potassium.

Again, really helpful!

Thai x Malawi - Harvested

Thai x Malawi - Harvested

Hey, everyone in Ace Nation!! Happy New Year!
Well, I'm happy to say that we seem to have overcome the late-inning over-nute issue. Needless to say, I have learned a lot - as well as realizing how much more I need to know. In the meantime, however, the plants are nearing their final destination. The Thai x Malawi, was placed under 12/12 on October 7 and was harvested about two days ago.

Here she is trying to sneak away before anyone notices her absence.

It was a nice try but it didn't work. Chop!

Pink Malawi - Ma Petit

Pink Malawi - Ma Petit

This was one of the plants that was probably damaged by the nute protocol. Perhaps it was an "indica" expression of the plant. Maybe both. I think she is beautiful but definitely would like another try at the strain, now that we are a bit more locked into a better nute profile. As it is, her autumnal colors are magnificent. She was placed into 12/12 on November 1 which puts her in her 9th week of flowering. While she looks like she's not pushing out pistils anymore, her trichs remain clear and cloudy, so I'm inclined to let her go a bit more. Play on o pink one!
