Wiring Diagrams? 4000watts on Heavy Duty Appliance Timer

Thats what I've been running on mine for years non-stop,3 verts. Its a sturdy timer, but wont last forever. It'll last 5 years minimum though and wont fail 1 time during that time.Mine hasnt failed not once.In over 20 years of electrical work I've replaced one, maybe two intermatic mechanical timers controlling HID's without relays.Although rated at 40A and sturdy as hell, dont even think about putting 8!K fixtures at 240V on one without relays, its about the toughest mechanical timer out there but its not superman lol. After running three for a long time I wouldnt hesitate going with 4 1K's on one timer.

If possible, split your grow room's electrical load into two separate circuits. There is nothing worse than losing a grow because one breaker takes a crap or one fixture takes a dump killing everything on that circuit.

I had the option of going with a 50 amp service (unused breaker) or a 30 amp and a 20 amp breaker and went with the 30/20 amp set-up. I am pulling around ~3k watts to the grow area.

I had my electrician friend set me up on a "little gray box" timer. I have 2x400W HPS running at 240v for about 3-4 years now. Works like a charm. Oh, and if you're outside the room, you can hear the lights kick on...."CLICK!!"

agreed. if you're gonna do a one time grow a plug in timer might be okay but to set up a grow room you cant go wrong with the gray box. the contacts are made to handle the loads and last many moons. simplicity and efficiency in a lil box is a good thing in my rooms.
