Window A/C Unit

Hey I have a problem I need a solution too. My grow room is getting really

hot with the lights on.....it's about 20 x 7ft. I bought a 5000 btu ac unit

for the windown but there are no windows in the room. The only thing I have

is a window inside of a door. Just wondering if anybody has installed a window

unit on a door with a window.

Does the AC unit even HAVE to be outside??

Any and all advice/suggestions/pics etc will be greatly appreciated.

The way an A/C works is it creates cooling with its coolant, then those cooled coils have recirculating air ran over time, the heat that is then transfered to those coils is thrown outside. By running an A/C unit in a room and not allowing that hot air to escape, would only slightly raise the temps of the room.

My suggestion is, put the A/C in the window, in the door and seal the room well. You don't want any of that heat coming back into the room. Or you could build a box to mount the A/C in and then have a flange with a duct booster (inline fan) coming out the back and vent outside, in whichever creative way you feel like.

Well see here's the thing. If a window unit WILL work without needing the rear

stickin out of the window then that's ok. I have in my growing area 8in ducting that runs up into the attic. I just didn't know if it was a hazard
to run that unit completely inside a room. I don't know, I'm gonna make this
happen.

Just remember, build a box around the unit and duct the hot air out the back. Also A/C dehumidify, so you'll need a way to catch and remove the water that falls out the back of the unit.... maybe pond liner with an overflow valve, with some tubbing coming off into a res. You can recollect your water

Pumpkin, thanks for the fast responses. Today I was doing a enviro test

on my cab and grow space and hour and half after lights went on at 6

the temp was steady at 80F. My room is 20ft long by 8 ft wide. My cab

is a standup freezer(very stealth). I exhaust out of the rear of freezer

and just leave it at that. I haven't even hooked up the duct fan to the

ducting running up through the attic. My temps may even be ok to run

without the ac unit(after i install the fan-to-ducting). Haha, probaly

should've done that first before spending $$$ on an ac unit.

Either way, I really do appreciate your info. Now i know i can just set it

up in the room and exhaust.

put that shit in the attic like i did
and run ducting down to ur room
put some sort of drip pan under the AC
i learned that the hard way trust me

Props, I was thinking a little backwards.... what ^^^ he said would work quite well, except the A/C getting to hot in the attic and burning out. But putting the A/C somewhere else and ducting it in would work. You lose the dehumidifying aspect, but if you don't live in a humid climate or have a dehumidifier, you should be fine.

See the freezer straight ahead.....to the right there is a water heater,

behind the water heater are 2 ducting pipes......One is longer than the

other(one comes to the floor, other is 9ft off ground) I put a duct

fan on the ductin closest to the ceiling. In front of the water heater is a

mini fridge......On top of the mini fridge is where I put my AC unit.

I'm building a small 3in platform for it to sit on and a small bucket underneath

to catch condensation.
