Why is there still smell outside my apartment?

So, I've been having a slight odor problem because I moved my plants to a larger room and didn't have a working carbon filter/fan for about a month.

Now, I've purchased an expensive S&P TD Silent 800 fan and a Can-Lite 800 carbon filter..

And the smell has maintained at pretty much the same level.

I am both surprised that there wasn't as much smell before and that there is still smell right now.

There is also a slight smell inside the grow room that has lingered.

What could it be? I've spent almost $1,000 on this and I'm not getting results..

Hey

Are you running negative pressure in your room? Do you have a tent? Is your shit hooked up right?

Just explain your setup to us....someone on here will prob. be able to help you.

Familiar territory.

I almost envy you. Your question reminds me of an old favorite apartment.

Paying attention to pressures will help with airflows.

Running the flowering room at negative pressure (so air is sucked in, and expelled by the strongest fan) helps to blast the smells outdoors.

2 things. Get a fan controller. Pulling the volume of air through the filter that you are isn't giving the incoming air enough "residence " time for the smell to be absorbed by the activate carbon.
Also by blowing out the air with the fan you are moving a large volume of air that is causing over pressure that is escaping out any crack, window seal, door seal it can.
Slow the fan speed down and see if that makes a difference.
Other than that everyone in your complex now knows you grow.

yes and yes.

The fan does not need to be on high. Drawing air slower is better.

And you need negative pressure in your flower room.

I have a 12 square meter (30 cubic meter) room which is sectioned into two parts (4 square meters and 8 square meters).

Before, there was a 240M3/h fan/filter in the smaller room and nothing in the bigger room, which is why the air in the bigger room was stagnant.

Now, there is an 800M3/h fan/filter in the bigger room and I have moved the 240M3/h fan so that it pulls air from the small room to the big room.

After doing all this, literally nothing has changed. The amount of smell outside my apartment is identical, which is weird considering the air in the big room is so fresh now.

Familiar territory.

Yeah, that's what I have.

The big 880M3/h fan draws air from everywhere. I have a bunch of holes in the ceiling leading up to the attic and I can FEEL the air being sucked in from them.

Neighbor grow?

I wish!

That would explain everything..

My girlfriend is freaking out about the smell though, so I have to assume it's us and not someone else so that I can fix it..

I have slowed down the fan and it didn't change anything.

I was told that the fan can be up to 20% faster than the filter. So, an 800 M3/h filter could take up to a 960 M3/h fan. My fan has two settings - 880 M3/h and 700 M3/h. They both have the same effect.

Everyone already knew. A year ago, when we first started, there was a ton of smell outside. That's why we had to get the 240 M3/h fan/filter. Now, the smell is virtually negligible. You can only smell it on the second floor and never in the same place and only a few times a day.

I thought I had negative pressure.

I have a big 800M3/h fan blowing air out of the room. That creates negative pressure, no? I put my hand under the holes in the ceiling and I feel the air being sucked in.

I use a lighter to check for negative pressure see if theres any leaks know what I mean ?

Its smelling because your growing that

CHRONIC !!

ahahaha get an ona and put it in there. for a tent grow the big jar should work just fine

I have had the most success using a passive intake and a strong solid exhaust fan. So I only use a fan to exhaust. make sense

Dude dont mean to post three separate times but 1000 bucks holy shit ahaha

With that you could have gotten a legit ozone generator I think there called. This has saved so many people will have your house smelling great from down the block if you dropped 1k on one ahahah I think you can get a real solid one for like 3 bills. Its the carts. that need to be replaced every couple of months that are pricey like 50-100 bucks. but hey for peace and mind I think its worth it. number one thing on my list to get for the next run.

I would probably get another carbon filter, you will need another soon enough anyway.

Other than that you could be leaking smell from somewhere.

I agree, try turning your intake off and see how it goes.

As I've already written about 5 times, I have passive intake, i.e. nothing to turn off.

What? How will I need another one? I just bought one! It's brand new and lasts for over a year..

It's really simple. You either don't have the actual negative pressure that you think you have (which you can check several ways, like using a lighter, or checking to see if the door slams shut on its own, that kind of thing), or you have a leak in your ducting (or air-cooled hood) that is pre-filter. If you are convinced that you have proper negative pressure, then you should check to see where there is air blowing out of your ducting (or tent, or reflector, etc) before it gets to the carbon filter.

Other possibility: you are blowing air through the carbon filter too fast, and it simply isn't scrubbing.

Maybe you should of went with a bigger filter? the 800 is a mini filter no? I always upsize my filters just for this reason and I don't have a problem. goodluck to you..

Sometimes its not the grow itself and things like stored weed, drying weed, drying leaves or molding leaves in a bag somewherw forgoten about. A lot of things smell that way especiallywhen your a pot head.... good clean out of the apartment and store your stuff with thought. If what you say is true I dont see a prob other than faulty filter.... or like someone said another grow..

Ok so I saw your room size and fuck bro Im too high to go and do sq meter to sq feet conversions.

But I can tell you that my approx. 10X10X10 room maybe a little smaller

use to give off smell when I changed shit around from the original set up. I noticed it was from negative pressure. I now have two exhaust fans both connected with filters ones a 12"can(1200=cfm filter) and the other exhaust is a 8in vortex(750cfm phresh filter)and I also run a passive intake. My negative pressure in my room shuts the door for me like someone mentioned above lol thats how it should be.

Anyway bro unless your growing a damn dope farm with a shitload of lbs then somethings wrong. Im guessing your fans/filter combo is too small which sucks been there done that. Smell is escaping from somewhere bro if slowing down your exhaust fan did nothing.

With a couple of fat ona jars one near the entrance of your house and one in the grow room and one randomly around you should be good.

Like i said the ozone gen. is for grow plantations and will def clear up a home grow easily.

I wish it were that simple.

I lit a large stake on fire and put it under the holes in the ceiling - the flame retreated towards me proving that there is definitely negative pressure.

As for the door - it open in, so if there is negative pressure it would open wider, not close shut.

I switched the fan to 700M3/h so there is no way it's too powerful for the 800 M3/h filter.

Maybe you should of went with a bigger filter? the 800 is a mini filter no? I always upsize my filters just for this reason and I don't have a problem. goodluck to you..

I calculated that I need a 600 M3/h filter. 30 M3/h x 20 = 600 M3/h.

I bought an 800 M3/h filter, so it can't be that.

Sometimes its not the grow itself and things like stored weed, drying weed, drying leaves or molding leaves in a bag somewherw forgoten about. Well, I have like 30 cuttings cloning in the living room, but there is no smell from them.

I don't see how the smell is escaping when there is plenty of negative pressure in the room, via the flame test.

Ona gel isn't a long-term solution. It's going to be hella expensive to run for a year.

I don't want to get an ozone generator because it's not healthy.

I only grow in about 1/3 of the room I have, so there is no way there are too many plants.
