Why do experienced growers still use plastic pots?

In my Usenet days, I would have typed this... <vbseg>, which was pre smiley face /emoticon for... very big shit eating grin!

I have _so_ missed you, TC, Injinji, The Blue Wizard, et al. I can only imagine the outstanding music I have missed! Once Potroast got shit canned, it was like being in elementary school. I got my ass kicked out for poor conduct to a long time poster there who luckily, won't give his bullshit advice to newbies here on ICMag, like he did two WeeK4incharge. It wouldn't be so bad if the bastard wasn't from Kentucky. His internet researched, imaginary bullshit just reflects badly on the state of KY. ;)

Gotta tread lightly here so you'll understand... but in another forum this poster essentially doxxed himself by transposing a couple of letters in his name. He always makes such a big deal about getting busted and doing time in prison. When I dove deep down in the rabbit hole, because he doxxed _himself_ and I was born and raised in Kentucky, I found out that he was busted because he was beating the shit out of his wife/girlfriend. She called 911 for getting wailed on, not because he was growing. As someone who has treated these kinds of patients, there's a special place in Hell for people who wail on the ones they supposedly love.

Enough of the past, let's get to the here and now.

Got some great music posters here! Quite a bit younger than us, lean towards heavy metal, but this is a wide, diverse geographic group, so I still get pleasantly surprised.

Check out coconutcurry's While My Sitar Gently Weeps, it's beautiful.

Hope you stick around and actively participate here! A few newbies, a bunch of old cranky fucks like us but most people in between, just trying to learn,.

So lots of people could use your help!

Take care!

Got to say, that one on the right looks like _me_. Absolutely, totally flat ass... so bad my jeans just slide down. My wife says it looks like I've got a saggy sack of shit in my pants. 🤪

Totally understand why old geezers back in the day wore suspenders, the tightest of belts just don't work, when you have no ass.

I've got back, just not in my ass!!!

It's time to move some recently rooted clones to dirt. I've got space considerations, so I can't put them in the normal size fabric pots I usually do.

No doubt someone will look at these clones and think, they look like shit. Unlike almost everyone else, I treat clones just like I do seedlings. They get full light in the 2x5 clone closet, lit by an XS 4000, while they're in their Park Seed incubator. That's a lot of light and I keep it at 100%. It's part of my philosophy to treat cannabis like you would any other plant, and not baby or coddle it with the perfect environment, perfect fertilizer, perfect lighting, etc. So in they go to the little fabric containers:

I did soil prep at the same time yesterday, so later on when I get a little bit of time, I'll post some shots from that. Fabric containers won't be worth a shit if you're not putting good soil into them.

I've used those small mesh bags for starting plants and they work great. The problem I have with them is that they're not as manageable. I like using plastic as I can keep everything organized better. Like a modular kit where everything fits nicely. It works out nice and I know exactly how many are in each tray. I make a lot of starts not just cannabis but for flowers and vegetables I grow every year. I just keep reusing them year after year.

Potroast was an asshole at TrollItUp. Heard recently he's still admin. He banned me for my conservative views. He always was one to preach "democracy". :D

Just like with pH and NPKaye, we have differing opinions of people who were active back in adpc. ;)

That's one of the things that I absolutely love about ICMag, politics are essentially non-existent, as they should be on a cannabis forum.

It's nice when you have square pots together, and you can pick up groups of 4, by pinching them together. Round pots you are limited to two per hand, and with fabric, you probably shouldn't be lifting them like that at all.

It's just procedural. Like how the square pots fill trays well. Then perforated trays can be dunked in non-perforated trays of feed. It's batch growing I don't see bag people trying.

@CharlesU Farley you are right. My reaction to your cuttings wasn't stella. Did you feed those cubes, to mimic the ground?

Am harvesting C99, backcrosses from yesteryear, gear from Richard aka Heaven's Stairway. Stuff is so sticky it's greasy. Tomorrow girlfriend and I do another C99 and a cross I made around 2000, my CPeak aka C99 X Peak 19. The Colombian pheno from the Peak 19 is showing up big compared to the Griffin's Spin Out final pic I did years ago which Shipperke posted.

Back to pots.....here's a "Tycoon" tomato plant I just put in the garden. You know me, I'm a "it's all about the roots stupid" no shit guy. MicroKote painted pot did good. Within that rootball is a root system so thick you have to beat it against the ground to shake the soil out.

Stuff at the bottom is cypress mulch. I use it to stop up the drainholes. Plant is laying on a big pile of mulch from the city landfill, single grind.

I argued with Potroast and other admins before him at the old sites to get rid of the politics section. It doesn't belong in cannabis forums.

Yeah, Gypsy has it under control. Would love to meet him some day.

I'll second that, :p. Pretty sure he's not there at all anymore. As far as I know it's Sunni, Curious2Garden, and Rswar or something like that. And the main admin. Sunni banned me for my conservative views as well but Potroast was a major ahole. Sunni was cool once upon a time but she lost her way somehow. I still have a pic of her titties that she posted years ago. :ROFLMAO:

Nah, cut them with a sharp pair of scissors, stick them in the foam cubes with no rooting compound, fill the incubator container with some spring water, cover up the incubator and hope for the best. Here's the previous generation clone, outside for a photo up, before being put in a bigger tent. Not product placement, just had to have something for scale besides my short stubby fat fingers. Even though they look like shit when I put 'em in dirt, they turn out okay:

It's just part of the survival of the fittest philosophy I've had since I started developing cannabis.

Funny but that is the exact folder name of my "Documents/Usenet" where I have archived emails, PM's, threads and posts from the oldies beginning with cannabis.com, ADPC, OG, etc.......... A lot of it stupid stuff like the many times I used the name "ragheads" when discussing the shit that was going on during those turbulent times. Man..... did the PC crowd go nuts. :ROFLMAO:

Fabric pots have been around for quite a while now. I know this is not a popular opinion but I believe, for indoor soil growers, fabric containers are the best innovation (with the possible exception of LED lights) in the past 25 years.

Here's some videos to illustrate why I feel this way:

A large, fully encircled/encased root mass, around the insides of plastic pots, with almost no root mass in the interior _soil_ of the plastic soil container, just doesn't make any sense to me. But I see so many experienced and knowledgeable growers still using containers that were originally developed almost 50 years ago.

Why?

Almost want to make a meme with my ass sitting in front of a table, with a large sign that says "This is my opinion, change my mind! ;)

How much experience we talking here? I grow in coco those fabric pots are useless to me since they're always drying out from the outside. For me plastic pots work better. The plants suck up the water from the root ball out so I can water my plants everyday and not worry about them dying out before the next water and all the roots dying. Also the amount of roots in the pot depends on how long you veg and how wet the medium was. If you're harvesting plants that didn't have roots anywhere except the edge is prolly cuz your watering too much.

Damn, I guess I'm one of the few who wasn't banned for political views but for bitch slapping a Internet poser, who is a seed selection guru / expert there, but who I know is totally and completely full of shit. On top of that he's a wife beating asshole.

Steer clear all politics, _especially_ American, because there's a strong international presence here, and you'll do fine on ICMag.

I understand what everybody's saying as far as how much easier plastic containers are to organize and transfer. Here's the pots I use for seedlings and again, the idea is to drive the roots down as deep as possible from a very early age. And I'm not afraid to crowd them, even in the seedling stage, because I think competition is good for cannabis:

But once they grow out of these containers, it's in the fabric they go.

I had a strange feeling of familiarity with your posts/posting style and demeanor, we are both very direct, blunt and have little patience for ignorant assholes. 🤣

But I don't remember your nym... which is not out of the ordinary, given how fucked up my short-term memory is these days. ;)
