Why are some strains NOT selfed?

I am mainly talking clone only's here, but why are there so many hybrids and especially s1's of some strains and not of other strains with stellar reputations? I for instance never heard of these in s1 or any other pure seed form: Williams Wonder, NL#5, California Orange, Agent Orange, and so on.

Could be various reasons: Some cuts don't readily reverse. Unstable hybrids will produce unstable offspring (phenos all over the place). Perhaps no one has tried, or more likely, no one has tried and offered seed for sale.

It was a while back in the days of the Cannabis World Forum, but CCC (Classic Clone Company) sold Cali-O S1s. I'd be very surprised if no one has ever offered Williams Wonder or NL#5 as an S1. It would be good if more people offered S1s of classic cuts... I agree there aren't enough offerings around! :tiphat:

Yeah I always start threads knowing exactly what I want to say and by the end of the post I derail! :D But you seem to have caught my drift. NL #5 mainly inspired this thread: I know someone on here was working on a backcrossed NL or an S1 of it, can't remember which now and wondered what happened with that or if someone knows if, yes, there are pure/stabilized/s1 versions of classic clones, especially old school ones, being offered. thanks for the excellent reply!

WW is available now in pure seed form well pure as in from original SSSC seeds not the original clone, NL5 there is tons of NL's the real NL existed in clone in the 80s then Neville Shoemaker got a hold of it and made the first seed line, so the seed in a sense is as real as it gets take our pick there is probably 100 seed offerings of NL, as it has been picked up and bred in just about every direction.

Cali O was available by Dutch passion and Nirvana for years, if it was really worth its shit you'd think people would still be raving about it. I have always heard its low potency, tasted nice but not potent enough to appease today narcotic smoker, even the infamous Aeric cut a few have had it, none have kept it around must say something.

Agent orange I always thought subcool had that one in seed form too.

Regarding NL - I know there have been PEZ S1s floating about recently, and from what I hear PEZ is NL or probably closely related. :tiphat:

Yeah I heard that cali-o was once great, that aeric grew the original version or maybe even created it. Maybe it was a clone only at one time or maybe I remember wrong? Then Dutch Passion got it and there are plenty of complaints about that lately. I know there are all kinds of NL floating around (it started as a PNW clone I believe and then the rest is all murky to me). Breeders got a hold of it and then there was NL#1, NL#2 (which Oasis supposedly is), NL #5 (which I have never seen in pure form but only in hybrids), and NL #9 (Sagarmatha). I know peak has NL, not sure which of these it is (if not otherwise specified, I assume it is the #1?), but I have some of those. It seems NL #5 is the most highly regarded but least available these days. Tell me more about Pez. thanks!

Wish I still had the ae77 calio cut. Was the bomb. NOT weak. NOT te same as any the seed banks. Would pay $1000 for a clone of it again.

Selfing is usually used for clone only plants where seeds are not available. I do not see a point in selfing a strain that standard seeds are readily available. Hope that helps.

Best!

would still be ok too self, even if the seeds are readily available if you have found a certain keeper. save you going through f1 stock looking ?

no where near as much variation in s1 as in f1,s . not all f1,s have that special something . if you s1 it you can come close at least to the special girl you found out of 100,s.. sorry think i,m pretty accurate on this! i do see the point of making s1 even if the seed is readily available. and then there is also the added bonus of not having males , considering only breeders and pollen chuckers need males.

You can think what you want but S1s are no guarantee of stability.
Your statements would only be accurate as long as the plant(s) in question were mostly homozygous. Otherwise, the outcome can be as variable as F2 seeds.

Probably because true NL#5 clone only is lost/MIA/gone since before selfing with CS or STS was a well known technique...

that seems to make sense, if true, but people have clones from the late 80's maybe even 70's, so I have trouble believing no one kept it going.
