I'm also growing some amaranth for poultry feed/human feed this year. If any of you have grown celosia(cock's comb flower) that's a variety of amaranth. The stuff is nutritionally incredible and will grow in almost any soil once it has been established.

this is stevia rebudaiana - natural sugar. leaves taste so much better then sugar, but sugar made of stevia taste like sodium, bljak

i just watered stevia after photoshooting, so dont mind about dry soil =)

My peaches will be real sweet this year is still some what cold out to plant for me bit ones it get a little

Stevia is a wonderful plant! There are so many easy edibles we don't take the time to grow that would make our lives better. Stevia is one of them. Also for those of you growing flowers this year, go get your munch on with some nasturtiums and day lillies! They make a nice addition to salads.

Beginning of June update

Beginning of June update

HEY HEY everyone,

Finally got some random pictures of some of my plants in the garden.

June 1st pretty much marks the day in my area that you should have all
your plants and seeds in the ground in order to take advantage of the entire
grow season.

Well I happen to have quiet the amount of plants this year and it was all do to
mother nature and her amazing ability to preserve vegetable seeds through the winter
and allow them to sprout the following spring.

This is what happened to me this year, i extremely lucked out seeing that most
of my garden was "self seeded" with over 50 different plants that are healthy as shit
right now :-D

Today I believe is a fertilizing day.

A nice sized butternut squash(winter squash), 1gal jug for size ref.
This was a naturally seeded plant from last years crop.
Im most def saving seeds from this plant since its so healthy and hardy.

The amount of "WILD" cilantro/coriander that popped up from
last years season is ridiculous, this is only a portion of the entire patch lol
with a number of patches all throughout the garden now.

This is my baby right here :-D Naturally planted Zucchini plant, the
only one that survived the winter. I can't wait to eat some hehe, ill
give it another 2-3 weeks until im harvesting zuc's.

Corn, these i planted myself. These plants are 4 weeks old now.
They will surely be "knee high by 4th of July"
You can BARELY see them, but the beans have sprouted just to the
left of the corn plant :-D Beans and Corn and Squash all living together
in the same space :-D You can see the leaf of the butternut on the left.
Living mulch my friends, LIVING ;-)

Lastly, we got some wild ass sunflowers that are EVERYWHERE.
I got about 30 of them all pretty equally spaced. Id say about
every 10 feet in all random directions there is a sunflower.
These are just about large enough for me to tend to and plant beans
under with. The sunflower act as a stalk for the beans, shade for the
entire garden, wind breaks, bee attractants and they just look cool :-D




I'll be able to update again soon. But I just wanted to get this beginning
of June update posted so I can share the 1 month mark with you all
and show the extreme change that occurs.

cool, i have some veggies in as well and am planting the rest of my new start batch tomorrow

so far corn, peas, tomatos, peppers, broccoli, lettuce going. Will be putting in some brussel sprouts, more corn, cilantro, basil, chinese greens and some more peppers!!

Hello everyone! Just found this thred,I'm a little late as I'm gearing up for 2013 veggie garden lol.This will be my first veg garden,it is 35'x85' and is nice fairly light soil.I added a bit of old cow manure so far and after reading this thred I will now add a shitload of compost.I live in farm comunity in south central Canada,so I have access to lots of old bales and compost.
Lots of great info here and I'm looking forward to raping your brains lol.

12 Foot sunflowers every year anyone ?? :-D

Every year I surround my garden with Mammoth Sunflowers, all grow
easily 10+ feet, my record is 12' 4" :-D

No staking necessary either

Now that it is Fall.... what can i plant veggie wise for the winter that can withstand temperatures ranging from 40-70 degrees? Last year some of my veggies didnt make it through the winter. Also, looking to plant some herbs as well.

winter crops are going to require a FROST blanket, a quick google will show you exactly
what im talking about, frost blanket wise. A white bed sheet would work, temporarily though.


Winter crops consist of things like...

Broccoli
Cauliflower
Lettuce (greens)
Turnips
Radishes

They will grow SUPER SLOW... but they will still grow nonetheless
