i think the three leaver is called a "Tri-foliate", and i think its neither a good, nor bad hing, just like when sum1 is born with an extra toe or finger.
No, it's called Whorled Phylotaxy, as OP correctly identified.

They usually outgrow it in the clone generation, but not always. Might yield slightly more, but that's about it. I've grown many of them.

Edit: somehow I did not notice this is a very old thread...

The permanent marker I posted above had another mutation as well. One of the three branches flattened out due to Fasciation. I cut that branch off and cooned it, but I think it died a week after transplanting from the cloner to coco.
It did eventually grow out of both mutations.
