Yes I am the chief bong and pipe cleaner of my household ,I'm very particular about it too! I hate smoking out of a dirty glass and wouldn't insult a guest by putting a smutty looking bong in front of them . Fresh mull and a clean bong always!
I heard of an old-timer who swore by this method. Of course, he had a few ant nests he could harvest from. He'd just get a bunch of ants from the nests, let the ants crawl into the glass (well known fact that ants love the hell outa resin), and then let his anteater go at it. Anteater loved it!
Wifey cleans the glassware for both our passions...cannabis and wine. ISO + coarse salt for cannabis and baking powder + water for the crystal stemware.
Easier for me that way! Hehehehehehe!
Yes, but think "contra Bond Martini", shaken--not stirred.
The salt acts as "soft abrasive" that eventually dissolves...hence the reason why you use "course salt" (kosher salt, ice cream salt, raw salt, rock salt, etc); by the time the salt dissolves, your nasty, dirty, crusty, water lined bong will become is sparkling clean. And best of all, salt does not scratch the glass--and the ISO is a great "solvent" to break down that dark crap.
Trust us, it does work and the combo is $uper cheap! BTW, higher concentrated ISO can remove/discolor any color labeling, so beware.
Let me add that the salt does not dissolve in pure alcohol.
It does, however, dissolve in the 30% water that is in 70% iso.
That increases the specific gravity of the water, and in effect, concentrates the alcohol to a higher percent by volume.
Which makes it a more aggressive solvent for resin.
